Opis:
The text presents the unique friendship between Ira Aldridge (1807–1867), the first Africa–American tragedian and Taras Shevchenko (1814–1861), Ukrainian artist, poet and painter. They met for a short time in 1858, when Aldridge came to St Petersburg to play Shakespeare with a German troupe. Since their lives’ experiences were similar – Aldridge suffered from racial discrimination, while Shevchenko was born as a serf – their friendship was instantaneous. Shevchenko appreciated Aldridge’s theatrical skills and Aldridge highly valued Shevchenko’s art. Aldridge’s portrait painted by Shevchenko is a memento of their meetings and friendship and is exhibited in the Moscow Tretiakov Gallery.

Opis:
The story of Medea provides a wide range of themes to be explored and passion emerges as a frequent one. This article is based on the text Medea by the Stoic Seneca, yet in some parts comparisons will be drawn with Euripides’ tragedy of the same name as well. They treat the same theme in remarkably different ways: In the Senecan tragedy, Medea’s long soliloquies or monologues differ from Euripides’ version in that they reveal the protagonist’s inner conflict between the voices of passions and reason. This tragedy particularly focuses on the passions amor (love), ira (anger), furor (madness, insanity) and the consequent self-division. Therefore it can be analyzed from both psychological and philosophical aspects.

Opis:
A spent vanadium catalyst, from the plant of metallurgical type, was leached in a potassium hydroxide solution to recover vanadium. The effect of time, temperature, concentration of basic, catalyst particle size and phase ratio was studied. The results showed that for a 160–750 μm catalyst leached for 4 h at 313.15 K in the presence of 10% potassium hydroxide solution at a liquid: solid ratio of 20:1, the extent of leaching of V was about 87%. Additionally, separation of vanadium from such a solution was investigated by the ion exchange method. Two types of polymer strongly basic ion exchangers were used. The ion exchange tests indicate that vanadium were loaded from the post-leaching solution with high efficiency. On this basis a flowsheet for the proposed process of a complex utilization of the spent vanadium catalyst is presented.
