Opis:: Grid computing has recently gained in popularity. Grid applications can be very demanding of the data storage facilities in the Grid. The existing data grid services are often insufficient and additional optimization of the data access is necessary. This paper presents research concerning the optimization aspects of data management for Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) systems in the Grid.

Opis:: The article presents test results of surface roughness after AZ91HP magnesium alloy machining with variable technological parameters (vc, fz, ap) as well as tool geometry (γ= 5◦ and γ = 30◦). Two carbide end mills were applied during the tests. Roughness analysis was conveyed at the end face (Ra, Rq, RzDIN, Rt, Ry, RSm) and lateral face (Ra, Rz, RSm) of the tested sample. A decrease of roughness parameters (for increasing vc) as well as an increase (with growing fz) was observed in the lateral face tests. Similar interrelations were noticed for end face of the sample. Lower roughness parameters values were recorded for tool rake angle equal to γ = 5◦.

Opis:: In this paper the technological process of movable and immovable pressure casting die insert of water pump executed in one of motor industrial plant was presented. Machining processes of casting die elements were described in detail. Individual operations and the process of machining parameters selection were characterized. Machine applications were generated for the virtual 3D model of movable and immovable die insert in Mastercam application operating in Windows environment. An attempt at modification of technological process for selected HSM-applied milling operations (high-speed machining) in Mastercam was made. As the result of modifications it turned out that machining time of rough milling operation has been reduced by almost 49% for movable die insert and by 29% for immovable die insert, which means achieving considerable savings.
