Opis:
Based on Kalman filtering, multi-sensor navigation systems, such as the integrated GPS/INS system, are widely accepted to enhance the navigation solution for various applications. However, such integrated systems do not always provide robust and stable navigation solutions due to unmodelled measurements and system dynamic errors, such as faults that degrade the performance of Kalman filtering for such integration. Single fault detection methods based on least squares (snapshot) method were investigated extensively in the literature and found effective to detect the fault at either sensor level or integration level. However, the system might be contaminated by multiple faults simultaneously. Thus, there is an increased likelyhood that some of the faults may not be detected and identified correctly. This will degrade the accuracy of positioning. In this paper multiple fault test and reliability measures based on a snapshot method were implemented in both the measurement model and the predicted states model for use in a GPS/INS integration system. The influences of the correlation coefficients between fault test statistics on the performances of the faults test and reliability measures were also investigated. The results indicate that the multiple fault test and reliability measures can perform more effectively in the measurement model than the predicted states model due to weak geometric strength within the predicted states model.

Opis:
Navigation system is one of the most important aircraft systems. Accuracy and precision of position and attitude is extremely important for safe aircraft operations. The integrated INS/GNSS systems are commonly used as autonomous on-board devices for fulfilling this task. The INS sensors like accelerometers and gyroscopes are mainly affected by drift. The GNSS encounter stochastic disturbances with no tendency to grow in time but as each radio navigation system may be jammed or its signal can just be not available. These base properties of errors make these two systems well suited for integration. These were the main motivations for development of integrated navigation and attitude determination system, presented in this article. In the developed system, data is integrated from all available sensors, particularly INS, GPS, and air data computer. Navigation information from these sensors is combined using Kalman filtering algorithms to obtain robust solution, effective also in a case of failure/inaccessibility of GPS. Position calculated using the accelerations from INS is corrected by position from GPS and optionally by position calculated using the true airspeed (TAS) from ADC. Navigation system is modelled and programmed in MATLAB environment. The system was tested using the data from real experiments, proving efficiency of the method.

Opis:
A synthetic overview of the present state of knowledge regarding the use of GPS and INS systems in aerial photogrammetry is presented. Although, the inertial navigation can calculate the position of the aircraft without any help from outside world, a large number of error are introduced. Hence a GPS is used to aid the INS, using a Kalman filter which helps in estimating the errors in the INS and thus updating position to improved accuracy. The deficiencies inherent in both systems as well as the reasons for their integration are considered. Since the use of a GPS system during flight still requires the creation of a net of ground control points and the planning of blocks with sufficient overlap between images, GPS/INS system integration has become a topic of keen interest. For this purpose, the basics of GPS/INS integration and the advantages and disadvantages of this solution are explained. The summary presents conclusions about directions for further development of integrated systems and a brief discussion of the current state of studies on direct georeferencing published in international scientific literature.
Artykuł w sposób syntetyczny ujmuje aktualny stan wiedzy w zakresie wykorzystania systemów GPS i INS w fotogrametrii lotniczej.

Opis:
The GPS system is widely used in navigation and the GPS receiver can offer long-term stable absolute positioning information. The overall system performance depends largely on the signal environments. The position obtained from GPS is often degraded due to obstruction and multipath effect caused by buildings, city infrastructure and vegetation, whereas, the current performance achieved by inertial navigation systems (INS) is still relatively poor due to the large inertial sensor errors. The complementary features of GPS and INS are the main reasons why integrated GPS/INS systems are becoming increasingly popular. GPS/INS systems offer a high data rate, high accuracy position and orientation that can work in all environments, particularly those where satellite availability is restricted. In the paper integration algorithm of GPS and INS systems data for pedestrians in urban area is presented. For data integration an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) algorithm is proposed. Complementary characteristics of GPS and INS with EKF can overcome the problem of huge INS drifts, GPS outages, dense multipath effect and other individual problems associated with these sensors.
