Opis:
Migration has a principal influence on countries’ population changes. Thus, the issues connected with the causes, effects and directions of people’s movements are a common topic of political and academic discussions. The aim of this paper is to analyse the spatial distribution of officially registered foreign migration in Poland in 2012. GIS tools are implemented for data visualization and statistical analysis. Geographically weighted regression (GWR) is used to estimate the impact of unemployment, wages and other socioeconomic variables on the foreign emigration and immigration measure. GWR provides spatially varying estimates of model parameters that can be presented on a map, giving a useful graphical representation of spatially varying relationships.

In the paper, there are introduced the results of analysis of fire occurrence data and a map of spatial distribution of fire occurrence in the territory of Presov region in period 2004 - 2013. To provide the analysis was necessary to build a fire geodatabase, which contained the data that are collected at the Fire Research Institute since 1996. To visualize the data on fire occurrence we used the cartogram built in the ArcGIS environment. The results of such analysis are necessary as for providing the fire risk analyses as for fire investigation purposes.

The conducted review presents the possibility of using artificial neural networks in sectors related to environmental protection, agriculture, forestry, land uses, groundwater and bathymetric. Today there is a lot of research in these areas with different research methodologies. The result is the improvement of decision-making processes, design, and prediction of certain events that, with appropriate intervention, can prevent severe consequences for society. The review shows the capabilities to optimize and automate the processes of modeling urban and land dynamics. It examines the forecasts of assessment of the damage caused by natural phenomena. Detection of environmental changes via the analysis of certain time intervals and classification of objects on the basis of different images is presented. The practical aspects of this work include the ability to choose the correct artificial neural network model depending on the complexity of the problem. This factor is a novel element since previously reviewed articles did not encounter a study of the correlation between the chosen model or algorithm, depending on the use case or area of the problem. This article seeks to outline the reason for the interest in artificial intelligence. Its purpose is to find answers to the following questions: How can artificial neural networks be used for spatial analysis? What does the implementation of detailed algorithms depend on? It is proved that an artificial intelligence approach can be an effective and powerful tool in various domains where spatial aspects are important.

The article discusses the possible use of GIS tools in detailed spatial analysis of materials and old maps showing the activities of Polish soldiers during World War II. The research was based on information regarding the military operations of the “Silent and Unseen” paratroopers (in Polish: cichociemni) in the General Government (GG), available in the archives of the Polish Underground Movement Study Trust (in Polish: Studium Polski Podziemnej) in London, as well as on prewar maps of the Polish Military Geographical Institute (in Polish: Wojskowy Instytut Geograficzny – WIG). The authors present the historical background to, and important details of the cichociemni airdrops. They also describe how these operations were organised and suitable airdrop sites selected. The main part of the article is devoted to an analysis and assessment of the extent to which selected drop sites of the cichociemni complied with the criteria contained in the instructions of the Staff of the Commander-in-Chief in London (in Polish: Sztab Naczelnego Wodza w Londynie). The article presents a case study of the “Mewa 1” drop zone located in the GG. The authors used calibrated WIG maps, which they then converted into vector versions. They also made use of modern DTM and a slope map created on its basis. All the criteria for selecting drop zones included in the historical instructions were analysed. Based on the example of the drop zone in question, as well as on the authors’ own spatial analyses, it was concluded that this particular drop zone met some of the criteria formulated in the guidelines of the Commander-in-Chief’s Staff, but only partially met others or failed to meet them at all. In addition, the authors noted a number of limitations regarding these criteria. For example, they did not take into account the locations of the occupiers’ garrisons or anti-aircraft positions, which are particularly important for the success of airdrop operations. The analyses and the results thereof constitute the first study of the armed operations of the cichociemni in GG areas using digital maps and spatial analyses based on GIS.

The paper presents an approach for optimal planning of biomass energy system based on carbon footprint minimization. A geographical spatial demand driven approach is applied to assess the feasible ways for transferring energy from renewable sources to district heating plants in the Province of Florence (Italy). The proposed approach has been developed on three levels. In the first one, the Province of Florence is partitioned into a number of Regional Energy Cluster (REC) using a multidimensional algorithm of regionalization called SKATER. The variables used in SKATER model are related in order to realize sustainable policy for forest and agriculture biomass productions. In the second step a geographical fuzzy multiple attribute decision making model was applied to the selection of biomass district heating localization. Finally, in the third step a georeferenced Mixed Integer Linear Programming model based on resourcesupply- demand structure for carbon-minimization energy planning has been applied.

The most important feature of a GIS is its ability to perform spatial analysis, ie to process spatial (geographical) data in order to obtain information (reports) regarding the studied area. Through this feature of spatial analysis the GIS software differs to other software, such as CAD. The spatial analysis is the process of modeling, examination and interpretation of model results. Following the spatial analysis it can be extracted or created new information about a set of geographic data. This paper aims to treat two methods of raster spatial analysis, namely the raster spatial analysis and map algebra functions and the spatial analysis based on some statistical analysis: local, neighborhood, regional and global.
Najważniejszą cechą GIS jest jego zdolność do wykonywania analiz przestrzennych, tj. do przetwarzania danych przestrzennych (geograficznych) w celu uzyskania informacji (raportów) dotyczących badanego obszaru. Dzięki funkcji analizy przestrzennej oprogramowanie GIS różni się od innych oprogramowań takich jak CAD. Analiza przestrzenna jest procesem modelowania, badania i interpretacji wyników modelu. Dzięki analizie przestrzennej można wyodrębnić lub utworzyć nową informację o zbiorze danych geograficznych. Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie dwóch metod analizy przestrzennej rastrowej, a mianowicie przestrzennej analizy rastrowej i funkcji algebry mapy oraz analizy przestrzenne na podstawie analizy statystycznej: lokalne, sąsiedzkie, regionalne i globalne.

Remote Sensing is a method of examination used in the study of resources on earth without any physical contact. It is a method by which the characteristics of the land below are recorded from space and sky. Determining the characteristics of natural and cultural resources of earth, sustainable exploitation of these resources in the most effective ways and continuous monitoring of the changes in these resources are fundamental to being a developed country. For a sustainable land use and urbanization, data about the unstable natural environment must be collected and monitored at regular intervals, and in order to do these, Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are employed. Images obtained through RS method can be analyzed for the accurate use of the data available. This study seeks to determine the spatial development in and around the city of Isparta through digital imaging processing techniques on different satellite images which belong to different years. Images from satellites ASTER and LANDSAT; information on the quarters in Isparta and the city plan and ERDAS IMAGINE 9.1 program were used in the study. The spatial development of the city of Isparta was studied on the basis of the satellite images obtained in the years 1987, 2000 and 2010 and this study was integrated into GIS. Having analyzed how much change occurred and which way it trended, important information was collected which will be used as source for future studies to be carried out on Isparta. It was observed that while residential areas increased, amount of forested land, and agricultural areas decreased during the periods studied.

Mapping and assessment of erosion risk is an important tool for planning of natural resources management, allowing researchers to propose modifi cation in land-use properly and implement more sustainable management strategies in the long-term. The Tapacurá river catchment, located in Pernambuco State, Northeastern Brazil, is one of the planning units for management of water resources of Recife Metropilitan Region (RMR), and it is divided into 12 sub-basins. The objective of this study is to evaluate the spatial variability of vegetal cover and sediment yield in this basin through remote sensing and GIS techniques. Maps of the erosivity (R), erodibility (K), topographic (LS), cover-management (C) and support practice (P) factors were derived from the digital elevation model (DEM), climate database, and soil and NDVI maps, taking into account information available in the literature. In order to validate the simulation process, Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR) was estimated. The obtained NDVI map showed vegetation loss during the analyzed period, indicating a distinct contrast between loss and gains of vegetation index. The vegetation and sediment yield mapping showed to be a useful tool for environmental monitoring and management, which can provide satisfactory results when jointly used. The results suggest a mean SDR around 0.9 and estimate the sediment yield as 23.98 ton/ha/month.
Analiza przestrzenna ilości sedymentu oraz pokrywy roślinnej w zlewni rzeki Tapacura określona na podstawie zdalnych obserwacji oraz analizy GIS. Artykuł przedstawia sposób wykorzystania zebranych w terenie danych dotyczących pokrywy roślinnej oraz ilości sedymentu określonego za pomocą zdalnych obserwacji oraz analizy GIS w celu monitorowania środowiska i zarządzania zlewniami. W pracy wykorzystano metodę USLE-SDR, a także cyfrowy model terenu. Badania prowadzono w zlewni rzeki Tapacura w północno-wschodniej Brazylii. Wyniki sugerują przyjęcie wartości parametru SDR = 0,9, a oszacowana wielkość transportu rumowiska wynosi 23,98 t/ha/miesiąc.

There is no complete cure for HIV infection, but highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has been applied to reduce the morbidity and mortality of HIV worldwide. Still, the ease of accessing these medications poses a serious concern. This work was carried out to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of area coverage of HIV drug centers. Google Earth Pro was employed to capture imagery of the study area and GPS instrumentation was used to pick the coordinates of the HCT and HIV Drugs centres within the study area. A questionnaire was then used to collect the attribute information of the facilities that exist. Subsequently, ArcGIS software was applied to import imagery to bring out the spatial entities of the area. Herein, GIS operations like network analysis, nearest neighborhood and Query were accessed. Average Nearest Neighbor Index (Rn) for HIV Drugs centres within Oyo metropolis was then calculated based on average straight line distance from each facility to its nearest neighboring facility. Herein, the Rn was 28.8. The Rn value indicates that spatial pattern of HIV Drugs centres in Oyo metropolis are dispersed. The Z-score (74.813624) and P-value (0.00000) reveals that the pattern of HIV Drugs centres in Oyo metropolis also exhibits significant dispersion. This means that the pattern of HIV Drugs centre location in the study area was significantly different from a random pattern. Network operation was then applied to determine best route from one HCT centre to HIV Drugs centre and to find if alternative routes were possible. The study shows that the spatial distribution of HIV Drugs centres is uneven - with 35 existing HCT (HIV Counselling and Testing) centres in 3 local governments, as well as 2 HIV Drugs centres. The service area calculation result shows other areas are in need of HIV Drugs.

This paper presents the results of the urban indicators analysis conducted within Warsaw's ventilation corridors from 1992 to 2011. The literature review shows that the Floor Area Ratio (FaR) index is one of the best indicators to detect urban development; therefore, this was the core of the analysis. Three periods were analysed (1992 - 2002 - 2011), as such a long time-span allows the assumption that change will be visible. The ventilation corridors were divided into 500 m and 100 m grids and the FaR index was calculated for each cell. The results highlight alarming changes within some of the corridors, indicating areas that are crucial to sufficient air flow in Warsaw.

The main aim of the study was to introduce a spatial database application for the estimation of changes in shoreline position. The open-source PostgreSQL database system with the PostGIS spatial extension was used as the data store for digitalised shorelines. The solution to calculations of the shoreline changes was based on the functions written in the PL/SQL language and geospatial functions provided by the PostGIS extension. The traditional baseline and transects method was used to quantify the distances and rate of shoreline movement. Outputs of the calculations were stored in the database table and simply visualised using graphical functions in the R software environment or in GIS Desktop software. The advantage of presented method is the application of SQL language in the analysis of the relation between the geometry of shorelines stored in the database table, which, compared to other similar solutions, gives the user fully open, simple analytical code and enable selecting custom parameters of analysis, modifying code and performing additional calculations

Lake disappearance as a natural stage of evolution of lakes is an extremely important issue in the landscape and ecosystem research context. Studies of the changes that occur in the lake landscape, characteristic in the northern part of Poland, are aimed at defining the cause and forecasting the results. The possibilities of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were used in this paper to analyse and visualise the process of lake disappearance in the Iława Lakeland Landscape Park. GIS technologies which primarily are used for gathering, storing, processing and presenting spatial data have been used to interpret changes in lakes coverage over a period of 100 years. The analysis were based on data bases and cartographic former maps such as hydrographic maps, attribute data and bathymetric plans. The data was gathered by transfer from different geoportals, next vectorised, and then preprocessed. Former maps were rectified. The lake disappearance process was presented in several forms: lake cards, animations and interactive map. Basing on the GIS analysis about lake disappearance in Iława Lakeland Landscape Park it was possible to state that lakes are disappearing in rate of 3.99 ha a−1.

Research background: Through the cultural progress and socio-economic development in Poland women have obtained the same rights as men in the labour market. Nevertheless, they continuously face discrimination and the difficulty, resulting from their traditional role, in finding or maintaining employment. Purpose of the article: The main objective of this study was an analysis of female unemployment and its determinants in Poland in 2016 from the spatial perspective. The following research questions were also specified: Is female unemployment dependent on social factors (do they play the key role)? Are the factors determining the level of female unemployment spatially diversified? Is the GWR model an effective tool in analysis of female unemployment? Methods: The research applied GIS and spatial analysis methods including Geographically Weighted Regression, which enables the identification of the variability of regression coefficients in the geographical space. The analysis was carried out based on statistical data presenting the share of unemployed women in the working age population for 380 Polish districts (NUTS 4, LAU 1) in 2016. Findings & Value added: The research results showed that in the period 2003-2016 the female unemployment was getting lower, but it was still higher than men. It was also spatially diversified. Moreover, the determinants of female unemployment were diverse in the geographic space and did not have a significant impact on the variable in all spatial units. The existence of clusters of districts, characterised by similar interactions and its strength, was also confirmed. The results of this analysis proved that non-economic (social) factors largely affected the level of female unemployment in Poland in 2016. Using GWR enabled drawing detailed conclusions concerning the determinants of female unemployment in Poland, it proved to be an effective tool for the analysis of this phenomenon.

The development of the real estate market necessitates a continuous need for analyses regarding the distribution of the number of transactions and level of transaction prices of real estate. This information is important for many market participants, such as investors, property owners, creditors, developers, as well as state and local government administration (for fiscal reasons). Transaction price data are systematically collected by administration units and are generally available to citizens. However, prices themselves do not provide sufficient information for the average user. Only when combined with geospatial data, they constitute complete and userexpected information. This publication analyses the distribution of unit transaction prices and the number of housing real estate transactions in the city of Katowice. A publicly available QGIS programme was used for the analysis. The results of the research proved the usefulness of the methodology used. Using the Voronoi diagram, the spatial distribution of the number of transactions in the studied area was presented. Using the methods of graphical data visualisation, the distribution of transaction prices in individual plats and the change in the distribution of transaction prices depending on the distance from the city centre were presented. In the case of the number of concluded transactions, plat 2 dominates, both on the primary and secondary market. In addition, in both cases, 2019 was the year with the most activity. Whereas, the highest transaction prices were recorded in 2020. In secondary trading, it was plat 14, and in primary trading – plat 3. The last year of the analysis is the period in which there was a large jump in prices, with a decrease in the number of transactions.
Rozwój rynku nieruchomości wymusza ciągłą potrzebę prowadzenia analiz dotyczących rozkładu liczby transakcji i poziomu cen transakcyjnych nieruchomości. Informacje te są istotne dla wielu uczestników rynku jakimi są np. inwestorzy, właściciele nieruchomości, kredytodawcy, deweloperzy, a także administracja państwowa i samorządowa (ze względów fiskalnych). Dane dotyczące cen transakcyjnych są systematycznie gromadzone przez jednostki administracji i powszechnie dostępne dla obywateli. Jednak, ceny same w sobie, nie stanowią wystarczającej informacji dla przeciętnego użytkownika. Dopiero po ich połączeniu z danymi geoprzestrzennymi, stanowią pełną i oczekiwaną przez użytkownika informację. W niniejszej publikacji przeprowadzono analizę rozkładu jednostkowych cen transakcyjnych oraz liczby transakcji nieruchomości lokalowych o charakterze mieszkalnym, na obszarze miasta Katowice. Do analizy wykorzystano ogólnodostępny program QGIS. Wyniki badań dowiodły użyteczności zastosowanej metodyki. Wykorzystując poligony Woronoja przedstawiono przestrzenny rozkład liczby transakcji na badanym obszarze. Wykorzystując metody graficznej wizualizacji danych przestawiono rozkład cen transakcyjnych w poszczególnych obrębach ewidencyjnych oraz zmianę rozkładu cen transakcyjnych w zależności od odległości od centrum miasta. W przypadku liczby zawartych transakcji dominuje obręb 2, zarówno na rynku pierwotnym jak i wtórnym. Ponadto w obydwu przypadkach najbardziej aktywny był rok 2019. Natomiast najwyższe ceny transakcyjne zanotowano w 2020 roku. W obrocie wtórnym był to obręb 14, a w obrocie pierwotnym obręb 3. Ostatni rok analizy jest okresem w którym nastąpił duży skokowy wzrost cen, przy spadku liczby transakcji.

The geographic information system (GIS) has become a very popular and useful tool to aggregate and process spatial data. In this paper, the implementation of data obtained during survey seasons at the El Fuerte de Samaipata (Bolivia) archaeological site and results of data analysis on the GIS platform are presented. In addition to the thematic layers, a description of the sectors and archaeological relics was added to the whole system. The implemented layers are related to orthoimages created from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and from close range photogrammetry (in visual, spectral, and infrared light), raw photos of petroglyphs, a highly detailed vector plan of the site, conservation risk maps, new spatial divisions, description layers, and a digital terrain model (DTM) based on the results of TLS. Such a system, with an implemented DTM, allows rainwater runoff and its impact on the archaeological site to be analysed. Thus, the paper presents a study on some hydrological conditions of the Samaipata rock. It is part of the larger research project “Architectural examination and complex documentation of Samaipata (El Fuerte de Samaipata/Bolivia) site from the World Heritage List”. The results of this study are considered mainly from the point of view of conservation recommendations and strategies. Same aspects, however, may influence future studies on the chronology and cultural affiliation of the Samaipata rock carvings.
System informacji geograficznej (GIS) stał się bardzo popularnym i użytecznym narzędziem do agregowania i przetwarzania danych przestrzennych. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono implementację danych uzyskanych podczas sezonów badań na stanowisku archeologicznym El Fuerte de Samaipata (Boliwia) oraz wyniki analizy danych na platformie GIS. Oprócz warstw tematycznych do całego systemu dodano opis sektorów i zabytków archeologicznych. Zaimplementowane warstwy są powiązane z ortoobrazami utworzonymi z naziemnego skanowania laserowego (TLS), fotogrametrii bliskiego zasięgu (w świetle wizualnym, spektralnym i podczerwonym), surowych zdjęć petroglifów, bardzo szczegółowego planu wektorowego, map ryzyka, nowego podziału przestrzennego stanowiska, warstw opisowych oraz cyfrowego model terenu (DTM) opartego na wynikach TLS. Taki system przetwarzania danych z wdrożonym DTM pozwala na analizę spływu wody deszczowej i jej oddziaływania na stanowisko archeologiczne. W związku z tym w artykule przedstawiono badania niektórych warunków hydrologicznych skały Samaipata. Badania są częścią większego projektu „Badania architektoniczne i kompleksowa dokumentacja stanowiska Samaipata (Fuerte de Samaipata/Boliwia) z Listy Światowego Dziedzictwa”. Wyniki tych prac rozpatrywane są głównie z punktu widzenia zaleceń i strategii ochrony skały. Te same aspekty mogą jednak wpłynąć na przyszłe badania dotyczące chronologii i przynależności kulturowej rzeźb skalnych Samaipata.
