    The article aims at the presentation of the origins and beginnings of reading rooms: Italian, Austrian and French in the People’s Republic of Poland until the end of the 60s of the 20th century, in a broader context of bilateral relations of Poland with France, Italy, and Austria. That enabled the determination of controversial issues restraining a process of establishing these units, as well as historical context influencing this process. The findings were based on archival source materials and a few research studies.

    Opis:
    Zygmunt Mycielski (1907–1987), a composer and writer on music, was one of the pupils of Nadia Boulanger (1887–1979). In his writings he often stressed the role which this eminent French teacher played in the development of a whole generation of Polish (and not only Polish) composers. Not only did Mycielski owe a lot to her personally, but he also clearly saw the significance of her teaching to the further fate of Polish music. He remained her friend, introduced her to Poland, and often mentioned both his education under her wings and the importance of her teaching. The article presents the figure and role of Nadia Boulanger in the light of the writings of Zygmunt Mycielski.
    Zygmunt Mycielski (1907–1987), kompozytor i pisarz muzyczny, był jednym z wychowanków Nadii Boulanger (1887–1979). Wielokrotnie w swych tekstach podkreślał rolę tej wybitnej francuskiej pedagog dla rozwoju całej generacji kompozytorów polskich (i nie tylko). Nie tylko sam wiele jej zawdzięczał, ale wyraźnie dostrzegał znaczenie jej nauczania dla dalszych losów polskiej muzyki. Pozostał jej przyjacielem, zapoznawał ją z Polską, wielokrotnie też wspominał zarówno czasy swej edukacji pod jej skrzydłami, jak i pisał o wadze jej nauczania. Artykuł ukazuje postać i rolę Nadii Boulanger w świetle wspomnień i zapisków Zygmunta Mycielskiego.

    This article analyses the transformative infl uence of Marcel Proust’s fi ction on early works of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz (1925–1927) in the light of the short story Nowa miłość [A New Love]. The article argues – on the basis of a reconstruction of the order in which Iwaszkiewicz read the volumes of In Search of Lost Time – that the date of its composition has be to revised and proceeds to explore the affi nity between the two writers. The analyses, which draw on Harold Bloom’s infl uence theory, compare and contrast their handling of scenes and narratives, relations of analogy and visions of love. The article claims that Iwaszkiewicz was keen to enter into dialogue with the French author and adopted some of Proust’s techniques, yet without compromising his own creative autonomy. In the course of that dialogue he developed a notion of Proust’s literary art which, it is argued, provides the key to the interpretation of homoeroticism and narcissism in Nowa miłość.

    This article deals with the reception of Arthur Rimbaud’s poetry and his biographic legend by the poets of the last decades of 19th and the first decades of the 20th century, though, in fact, its earliest phase belongs to the literary period of pre-Modernist, anti-Romantic reaction (which described itself by the name Positivism, epitomized by the novels of Bolesław Prus). The process of Rimbaud’s reception proceeded in two dimensions, on the intergenerational level and in dialogue between poets and translators. Interestingly, it acted as a veritable catalyst of changes in the poetics of writers across the spectrum, from the old school (Józef Weyssenhof and Eliza Orzeszkowa) to the modernist avant-garde. The influence of Rimbaud was by no means uniform and went beyond the usual names like Zenon Przesmycki (Miriam), Julian Tuwim or Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. This article casts its net widely to include representatives of three generations, among them some of the less acclaimed authors.
