The publication aims to analyse selected changes in the natural surroundings that influence the implementation decisions of the environmental management system. Research conducted over the last 10 years shows that the pro-environmental activities undertaken bring results not only in the number of management systems implemented but also in the number of ecological farms created, reduction of air pollution and reduction in the extraction of natural resources (coal).

The first purpose of the research was to assess the dependence between the organisa-tional decision-makers willingness to implement systemic solutions relevant to insurance (RSSs) and the attributes (systemic, awareness-related and organisational) of an organisation managed in accordance with ISO 14001. Another purpose was to identify the motivators that drive entities to implement additional system elements. Earlier studies suggest that the structures of currently implemented ISO 14001 EMSs should be modified in order to increase their utility for the process of insurance provision. The research problem was solved based on data obtained through an online survey among organisa-tions implementing and certified ISO 14001 EMSs in Poland. Depending on the type of variables, the independence chi-square test, U-Mann-Whitney test, and the test of Spearman’s rank correlation, among others, were used for analysis. The results of the study may help build integrated environmental risk management tools. They indicate the legitimacy of using non-insurance motivators (e.g. reduction of environmental fees) to achieve the desired EMS structure in the organisation from the insurers' point of view. At the same time, they emphasise the need to build environmental risk awareness (including, among other things, the risk of liability for environmental damage and its severity) to achieve the above.
Pierwszym celem badania była ocena zależności pomiędzy skłonnością decydentów organizacji zarządzanych według ISO 14001 do wdrożenia istotnych ubezpieczeniowo rozwiązań systemowych a atrybutami tej organizacji (systemowymi, świadomościowymi i organizacyjnymi). Drugim celem była identyfikacja motywatorów, które skłaniają decydentów do wdrożenia dodatkowych elementów systemu. Wcześniejsze badania sugerują konieczność zmodyfikowania struktury obecnie wdrożonych SZŚ według ISO 14001 w celu zwiększenia ich przydatności dla procesu świadczenia ochrony ubezpieczeniowej. Problem badawczy rozwiązano w oparciu o dane pozyskane w drodze ankiety zrealizowanej online wśród organizacji, które wdrożyły i certyfikowały SZŚ ISO 14001 w Polsce. W zależności od rodzaju zmiennych do analizy wykorzystano m.in. test niezależności chi-kwadrat, test U-Manna-Whitneya, współczynnik korelacji rang Spearmana. Wyniki badań mogą być przydatne do budowania zintegrowanych narzędzi zarządzania ryzykiem środowiskowym. Wskazują na zasadność stosowania pozaubezpieczeniowych motywatorów (np. obniżenie opłat z tytułu korzystania ze środowiska) w celu osiągnięcia pożądanej – z punktu widzenia ubezpieczycieli – struktury SZŚ w organizacji. Jednocześnie akcentują konieczność budowania świadomości ryzyka środowiskowego (w tym m.in. ryzyka odpowiedzialności za szkody środowiskowe, ciężaru tej odpowiedzialności) dla osiągnięcia powyższego.

The development of enterprises in the 21st century must involve care for the natural environment. Owing to the introduction of ecological activities, entrepreneurs gain in the economic, ecological and social sphere. That is why it is so important to implement and disseminate ecological management in companies. Although undoubtedly the environmental awareness of entrepreneurs is increasing, there is a lack of much interest in implementing additional systems such as the EMAS Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. The purpose of the present study was to determine the impact of a functioning EMAS management system on the activities of organisations that have implemented this system. The basis for the evaluation was the results of research and a review of domestic and foreign literature. The results of the research show that the organisations undertook to implement EMAS observing a number of benefits. However, at the implementation stage, there were numerous, not always foreseen, difficulties which extended the planned implementation period. The conducted research can be the basis for the development of new procedures facilitating the implementation of the systems in the enterprise. They can provide valuable information for various organizations supporting and disseminating the development of pro-ecological management.
Rozwój przedsiębiorstw w XXI wieku musi wiązać się z troską o środowisko naturalne. Dzięki wprowadzaniu działań ekologicznych przedsiębiorcy zyskują na płaszczyźnie ekonomicznej, ekologicznej i społecznej. Dlatego tak ważne jest wdrażanie oraz upowszechnianie zarządzania ekologicznego w firmach. Chociaż niewątpliwie świadomość ekologiczna przedsiębiorców wzrasta obserwuje się brak dużego zainteresowania wprowadzaniem dodatkowych systemów jak System Ekozarządzania i Audytu EMAS. Celem pracy było określenie wpływu funkcjonującego systemu zarządzania EMAS na działalność organizacji, które wdrożyły ten system. Podstawą do oceny były wyniki badań oraz przegląd literatury krajowej i zagranicznej. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują, że organizacje podejmowały się wdrożenia EMAS widząc szereg korzyści. Jednak na etapie wdrożenia wystąpiły liczne trudności, na które nie zawsze były przygotowane i które wydłużyły planowany okres wdrażania. Przeprowadzone badania mogą być podstawą opracowania nowych procedur ułatwiających wdrożenie systemów zarządzania środowiskowego w przedsiębiorstwie. Mogą stanowić cenną informacje dla różnych organizacji wspierających i upowszechniających rozwój proekologicznego zarządzania. Tematyka artykułu jest ważna i aktualna ze względu na konieczności ograniczania wpływu organizacji na środowisko i wdrażania zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju.

Organizations use standards to help them manage their activities to comply with regulations and help prevent, mitigate, and control adverse environmental impacts. ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management that provides a framework for addressing these responsibilities. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the organization’s primary motivation for the adoption of ISO 14001 and the value creators perceived through the implementation of the Environmental Management and Business Management Standard. The study used the data from the International Organization for Standardization 2013 ISO 14001 Continuous Improvement Survey and the survey results of the participants. It used an existing theoretical model and attempts to improve understanding of how contextual factors influence the outcomes of the ISO 14001 system. The descriptive results are consistent with the statements in the literature that external pressure and stakeholder legitimacy are the main causes for the introduction of ISO 14001.
Organizacje wykorzystują normy w celu pomocy w zarządzaniu ich działaniami, tak aby stosować się do regulacji i pomóc zapobiegać, łagodzić skutki i kontrolować niekorzystne wpływy środowiska. 14001 jest normą międzynarodową nt. zarządzania środowiskiem, która zawiera narzędzia do wypełnienia tych celów. Zadaniem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie zależności między podstawową motywacją danej organizacji do przyjęcia ISO 14001 a postrzeganą wartością, związaną z wprowadzeniem Zarządzania Środowiskowego i Standardem Zarządzania Biznesowego. W pracy wykorzystane dane Międzynarodowej Organizacji Normalizacyjnej: „2013 ISO 14001 Continuous Improvement Survey” i wyników badań uczestników. Wykorzystano istniejący, teoretyczny model i próby zrozumienia, jak czynniki kontekstowe wpływają na wyniki wg ISO 14001. Wyniki opisowe są zgodne z danymi literaturowymi, że głównie presja zewnętrzna i interesariusze wpływają na wprowadzenie ISO 14001.

The water resources are the main component of technological processes occurring in industry; therefore, increasing the level of environmental safety, in particular, wastewater treatment without adverse impact on the environment and human health is relevant. The preliminary environmental analysis of the motor transport enterprise (MTE) activity has been carried out. It has been established that about twenty environmental aspects identified in the departments of technical inspection and repair and service have an adverse impact on the state of the environment. A substantial impact on the environment occurs when the sewage containing petroleum products, washing liquids, waste lubricants and contaminated by the products of tissue origin enters the soil and water objects and their resources. On the basis of the preliminary analysis, the authors have identified the environmental aspects of the company’s activity and proposed an environmental policy as an essential element for the implementation of the environmental management system. The studies conducted with the aim of determining the motor transport enterprise sewage composition revealed an excessive content of polluting chemical substances, namely: suspended substances, phosphates, iron, fats, oil products and synthetic detergents. The expediency of using carbonaceous sorbents of vegetable origin, which were obtained from the waste wood industry for wastewater treatment of the enterprise, was investigated. It was revealed that the process of sorption purification improved the quality of wastewater of the motor transport enterprise to the standard values. The proposed recommendations for the implementation of the environmental management system will gradually reduce the impact of the company on the main components of the biosphere. Effective implementation of the environmental management system will help to increase the competitiveness of the enterprise and lead to an economic effect by saving raw materials, materials, energy resources, reducing the environmental fees and penalties.

In the hereby paper, an evaluation of selected determinants that motivates organizations to implement the environmental management system compliant with the ISO 14001 standard has been made. The aim of the paper is to answer the questions which of determinants have influence on decision making to implement environmental managing. A research group is a population of 91 enterprises located in south-eastern Poland. In the researches, a distribution of organizations close to organization’s population per a type of leading activity has been procured. On the basis of the obtained results it has been stated that the determinants deciding of decision making to implement the system are: endeavoring to productivity improvement and necessity of organization’s managing improvement. Most often benefits according to the respondents’ opinion, expected after implementation of the system, are improvement of the area of managing and also implementation of standardized - permanent betterment.
W artykule dokonano oceny wybranych determinantów motywujących organizację do wdrażania systemów zarzadzania środowiskowego zgodnych z normą ISO 14001. Artykuł ma celu udzielenie odpowiedzi, które z determinant mają wpływ na podjęcie decyzji o wdrożeniu zarządzania środowiskowego. Grupę badawczą stanowi populacja 91 przedsiębiorstw z Polski południowo-wschodniej. W badaniach uzyskano rozkład organizacji zbliżony do populacji organizacji wg rodzaju prowadzonej działalności. W oparciu o uzyskane wyniki stwierdzono, że determinantami decydującymi o podjęciu decyzji o wdrożeniu systemu jest dążenie do poprawy produktywności oraz konieczność poprawy zarządzania organizacją. Spodziewane korzyści z wdrożenia systemu to najczęściej w opinii respondentów poprawa w obszarze zarzadzania, a także wprowadzenie standaryzowanego - permanentnego doskonalenia.

Ore processing industry in Indonesia applies the international standard of environmental management system based on ISO 14001:2015. The implementation of clause 6.1.2 requires every organization to identify the environmental aspects of its operations, as an initial step in environmental management. The objective of this research is to develop a structured approach in identifying the environmental aspects and impacts so that an evaluation on the risks, opportunities as well as severity of possible environmental impacts can be conducted. The employed methods involve life-cycle approach and risk assessment method with four-cell risk assessment matrix in environmental risk determination. The results of this risk assessment can give an overview of environmental aspects and impacts, so that control priority can be determined in order to reduce the risks.

The adaptation of urbanised areas to climate change is currently one of the key challenges in the domain of urban policy. The diversity of environmental determinants requires the formulation of individual plans dedicated to the most significant local issues. This article serves as a methodic proposition for the stage of retrieving data (with the PESTEL and the Delphi method), systemic diagnosis (evaluation of risk and susceptibility), prognosis (goal trees, goal intensity map) and the formulation of urban adaptation plans. The suggested solution complies with the Polish guidelines for establishing adaptation plans. The proposed methodological approach guarantees the participation of various groups of stakeholders in the process of working on urban adaptation plans, which is in accordance with the current tendencies to strengthen the role of public participation in spatial management.

People usually associate the protection of waters with the issue of sewage treatment and with the deployment of new technologies which reduce the consumption of water and waste dumping, while the impact of the society's environmental awareness and of the environmental management upon the effectiveness of water protection generally remains underestimated. Slovakia is located in the catchment area of two seas: the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea; river springs and river upper sections are located on its territory. Therefore, the country attaches great importance to the protection of waters. This, supported with the belief that one of the prerequisites of water protection is proper environmental management, has encouraged the authors of this study to tackle the issue mentioned in the topic. They believe that such management requires qualified personnel to be prepared beforehand. The authors present the recent development of environmental education at Slovakian Universities, mainly at the faculty of mechanical engineering, from the implementation of the first environmentally- oriented subjects to the establishment of an independent department. They describe the contemporary state of education in environmental management and audit scheme (EMAS). They also outline the perspectives for its further development. At the same time, they specify the profile of graduates and the educational plans for particular types, forms and branches of study, as well as the personal and laboratory equipment for the scientific and support of the pedagogical process.
Ochrona wód kojarzy się zwykle z problemem oczyszczania ścieków oraz zastosowaniem w przemyśle nowych technologii ograniczających zużycie wody i zrzuty ścieków. Wpływ świadomości ekologicznej społeczeństwa i sposobu zarządzania środowiskiem na skuteczność ochrony zasobów wodnych nie są na ogół doceniane. Słowacja, leżąc w zlewisku dwóch mórz – Czarnego i Bałtyckiego – dużą wagę przywiązuje do ochrony wód. Na jej terenie znajdują się źródła oraz górne odcinki rzek. Do podjęcia tematu skłoniło autorów przekonanie, że jednym z podstawowych warunków ochrony wód jest właściwe zarządzania środowiskiem, co z kolei niesie za sobą konieczność przygotowania wykwalifikowanych kadr. Autorzy prezentują najnowszą historię edukacji ekologicznej na uniwersytetach słowackich – głównie w katedrze mechaniki – od wprowadzenia pierwszych przedmiotów o profilu ekologicznym do założenia niezależnego wydziału. Opisują oni obecny stan edukacji w dziedzinie systemu zarządzania środowiskiem i audytu środowiskowego (EMAS). Kreślą oni także perspektywy przyszłego rozwoju. Ponadto określają profil absolwentów oraz plany edukacyjne dla poszczególnych rodzajów, form i działów studiów, jak też sprzęt laboratoryjny wspomagający proces pedagogiczny.

Opis:
The transition process of implementation standard for environmental management system (EMS) ISO 14001 :2015 lasts for three years, requiring every organization to adopt the latest version by September 2018. The objectives of this research is to describe and analyze the stages done by copper ore mill. This research used a concept analysis method, which focused on and could be basically defined to examine the basic elements of widely used concept to clarify ISO 14001 :2015 standards characteristics and relations. The result of this research provide a conceptual framework based on the standard of ISO 14001:2015 – EMS : Requirements with Guidance for Use, where this framework consists of steps to design the transition change from EMS ISO 14001 :2004 to its 2015 new version. The description of every step is expected to give understanding and model for organizations that must conduct transition and for the ones that will start implementing the EMS.

The aim of the article is to present a way to reorganize the environmental management system in the situation of merging companies. This problem was presented on the example of five energy sector companies, which as a result of the consolidation process formed one entity with the group structure. The article is of a practical nature mainly due to the presentation of the implemented principles of assessment of environmental aspects as well as the presentation of the requirements of the new environmental management standard.
