In this paper was presented, innovative in preparation of the diving apparatuses classification method, depend on three criteria: the kind of the breathing gas, the operational depth range of the diving apparatus, and the principle of operation. The breathing gas used is the most important criterion. The other basic classification criteria follow from the first one; therefore it should be treated as the one criterion. Such approach to the problem has never been presented before, however it seems to be correct method of the diving apparatuses division.

This article is another in a series of articles on the research and implementation of saturation diving technology in Poland. It discusses the specificities related to the implementation of this technology against the background of economic and historical conditions in our country. In Poland, the issue of saturation diving for the needs of the emerging offshore mining industry has been for over a dozen years dealt with by the Department of Diving Equipment and Technology of Underwater Works (Polish abbr. ZSNiTPP). In parallel, deep diving technologies were developed, in the first stage, as a basic diving technology and, since 1994, as complementary to ensure the full backup for saturation diving. Since 1995, saturation diving has become an everyday occurrence in the Polish economic zone of the Baltic Sea. This article shows the difficult path that the implementation of saturation diving took during a period of economic instability when the scale of the domestic offshore industry's facilities was small compared to global companies. Selected animators and participants in the implementation are recalled for two periods: one marked with the cooperation with the Italian underwater services company RANA and the other one, a period of implementation of long-term underwater works based on national capabilities. The article also considers the technical and organisational conditions for the implementation of saturation diving for the Polish mining industry. In 1990, the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company Petrobaltic (today LOTOS) played one of the key roles in the implementation of saturation diving in our country. The implementation of saturation diving in Poland was linked to the only operational diving system of Italian production, the Af-2, which enabled scientific research related to the application of new technical solutions and testing under operational conditions, as well as contributed to the development of scientific, engineering, and medical staff for the Polish offshore industry. The company played one of the main roles in the implementation of saturation diving in our country The 1995 became a landmark year in the history of saturation diving in Poland, as well as in the Baltic Sea. Through this technology, the process of installing the first two underwater exploitation heads on production wells B3-7 and B3-10 was initiated. The saturation diving was possible thanks to the leasing of the Af-2 diving system by Petrobaltic and its subsequent purchase by the Naval Academy in 1998.This system, after a series of upgrades, is still in service today.

Opis:
The article was inspired by information in the literature regarding damage to medium-pressure diving hoses, which, as a result of the crystallisation of material on their inner surface and the detachment of particles, caused significant interference with the output of the pressure regulator. A dangerous consequent 'clogging' of the airflow in stage II of the breathing apparatus and an increase in the effort in the diver's lungs to overcome the increased breathing resistance resulted. This problem was investigated in the paper. Nozzles with reduced diameters were fabricated to simulate the deterioration of the automaton conditions. A suitably selected regulator from a domestic manufacturer's was used for the tests. A series of measurements was carried out in a breathing simulator for the established experimental conditions specified in the standard PN-EN 250:2014. Following the test, the results obtained were analysed and interpreted based on statistical description methods.

This article is another in a series of articles on the research and the deployment of saturation diving technology in our country. This part discusses Polish specificities and achievements against the background of economic and historical context. It describes the creation of the base for saturation diving in the times of economic hardship in our country. Over this period, the shipbuilding industry was driving saturation diving research as a basis for the construction of diving systems to be exported to secure the extraction of the resources from the sea shelf. This paper describes the efforts of the animators and protagonists of underwater research in our country, whose work is continued to this day. In its second part the author shows how the Polish system of saturation diving was created. The article also considers the technical and organisational conditions in which the first saturation dives took place and the history of the development of the Polish decompression method for saturation diving. A key role in this difficult task was played by the creation of a base for this industry and research potential, assisted by the relevant state agencies, dedicated for the defence sector. A multiannual National Research and Development Plan (Polish abbr. CPBR) was set up with objectives 9.2 and 9.5 focused on medical and technical research resulting in the development of a diving system with its organisational framework, medical safety solutions, and reliable technology. The outcomes of this programme are still being implemented today. Despite advances in the medical and technical fields as well as organisation, the problems of saturation diving are still pertinent because, regardless of its complexity and high cost, this is the most efficient diving format that allows for very deep diving operations, currently up to 400-500m.

Opis:
Diving practices of a group of indigenous people living on Thailand’s west coast were investigated. Village chiefs were first interviewed using a questionnaire. Three hundred and forty-two active divers were then interviewed by health care workers using a second questionnaire. Field observation was used to further develop information and confirm diving practices. Divers in 6 villages, whose basic means of making a living is from diving for marine products such as fish and shellfish, have diving patterns that put them at substantial risk of decompression illness. Breathing air from a primitive compressor through approximately 100 m of air hose, these divers have long bottom times coupled with short surface intervals. Forty-six point two percent of the divers indicated that they would not make a stop during ascent from a long deep dive (40 m for 30 min). When comparing their previous day of diving to the U.S. Navy Standard Air Decompression Table (U.S. Navy, 1993), 72.1% exceeded the no-decompression limits set by the tables. Diving patterns point to a need for more in-depth research into the diving patterns of this indigenous group. Future research should include the use of dive logging devices to record depths and times. There is also a need to provide divers with information and training to reinforce positive practices and strengthen knowledge of the risks associated with their current diving practices.

Maintaining a stable oxygen content in the breathing loop of the diving apparatus with a semi-closed respiratory circuit is essential for the safety of underwater mine clearance operations. This article discusses the influence of modified methods of flushing the breathing apparatus on the quality of the breathing loop ventilation process. The problem of flushing an apparatus is presented in light of the Polish Naval Academy's change from statistical to deterministic decompression schedules, based on the model of apparatus ventilation, oxygen toxicity hazard and decompression. The examination and determination utilising the required accuracy of the method used for flushing the breathing loop of the device allowed to assess the stable oxygen content during the decompression phase. The assumptions were verified based on a system for measuring oxygen content in the breathing loop.

Opis:
The article presents a unique atypical application of the sonography technique and a methodological description of theintroduction of this technique to research. The Bayesian approach applied to validation of the Doppler method for intravasculardetection of the free gas phase instead of typical statistical inference has been demonstrated in the article. It describes theplace of this method in the diving research work conducted in the Polish Naval Academy without any detailed analysis ofthe results achieved in the studies on decompression supported by ultrasonic detection of the free gas phase in venous vessels. It is a commonly held opinion that Doppler ultrasonic detection of the intravascular free gas phase is not a procedure that canbe particularly useful in decompression research. The main objection is that detection of the free gas phase in venous vesselsis a weak function to predict the presence of the free gas phase in tissues and arterial blood, so this method is not suitablefor assessing the risk of decompression. Only a few countries disagree with this commonly held view and use this method toassess the risk of decompression in decompression studies. France has introduced detection of the free gas phase in venousvessels for diving research and then, together with Canada, improved this method, and developed it to a standard form.Based on the published results of the Canadian research, the technique was evaluated at the Naval Academy using statisticalmethods. The Academy accepted and adopted the results of this research and started to use this method in its own researchon decompression over 25 years ago and continues to use it to great effect.

The basis for this is the extensive literature describing, inter alia, the issues of wear and tear of machine parts, their damage, failures, etc. a phenomena occurring in the “life” of virtually every technical object. The specificity of diving techniques makes it a relatively little analysed segment of activity from the perspective of exploitation. Based on the analysis of publications and own materials, the author has reviewed and matched them in terms of similarity of loss of technical and functional properties of various elements of diving technology in relation to the divisions and criteria used in generally understood utilisation.

Maintaining a stable carbon dioxide content in the process of producing breathing air is important both for the safety of divers performing underwater work and for avoiding financial losses resulting from poor product quality. This paper deals with the implementation of safety measurement systems for online control of the breathing air production process. On the basis of a qualified control system, the capability of the rationalised process was assessed, identifying both its current status and its potential for improvement in terms of eliminating defects caused by excessive carbon dioxide content. For process reasons, the effectiveness of online process monitoring was evaluated against the previously used periodic sample control by means of laboratory methods of instrumental analysis. The analysis was conducted at KTPP AMW1 for the compressed air supply system of the DGKN - 1202 complex.

Dives were performed in classical equipment with air as a breathing mix at depths of 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 m. It was found that statistically significant differences in the time of eye-muscle reflexes occur during the transition from 0 to 10, from 40 to 50 and 50 to 60 meters of overpressure. In the conclusions, it was found that the prolongation of reflex time is much greater than in hyperbaric chamber studies. As in previous studies, toxic effects of components of the breathing mixture, especially nitrogen, were considered the main cause.
