Opis:
Today, more than ever, audiences are surrounded by imaginary worlds in which a wide variety of products and activities can be fully explored through multiple media windows. Imaginary worlds allow members of the audience to enter vicariously in the narrative space, spending a certain amount of time in speculative and explorative activities, experiencing the ‘possible world’ through the stories set within it. According to this, it is possible to differentiate between story and storyworld. While ‘stories’ are self-enclosed arrangements of causal events that come to an end in a certain period of time, ‘storyworlds’ are mental constructions shared between recipients and authors in which new storylines can be developed. This paper aims to discuss the implication of world-building activity for the design practice. Considering narratives and world-making practices as a matter of design, this essay will tackle the following question: how can a designer use the creation of storyworlds in his practice to activate new perspectives on specific contexts? In doing so, the first part of the essay is a brief summary of how imaginary worlds have evolved through the decades. Then, the second part is devoted to the presentation of the so-called Storyworld Canvas, one of the narrative design tools developed in our research group in order to support both storytelling practice and storyworld creation. Finally, the paper describes the project Watchmen of the Nine with the aim of analysing its storyworld from the perspective of the design domain, considering storytelling and world-building activities as ways to enrich the design practice.

Reconfigurable Machine Tool (RMT) is the active issue to realize both the flexibility and productivity of manufacturing systems and satisfy the mass-customization production. The purpose of this paper is to present a RMT design methodology. Specifically, the part analysis and the RMT architectural modelling. The method of RMT design is focused on a simultaneous machining process using multi-spindle in a single RMT. Based on the concept of machining features, the process data, retrieved as a starting point in identifying various functions necessary to carry out a given part family, are displayed. Moreover, geometrical and kinematical architectures of RMT are defined as a result of the specification of all manufacturing processes of features to be machined. Where, all architectural solutions and the criterions related to select the suited solution are presented. Our methodology presents all activities allowing to pass from machining features of part to be machined to the structure of RMT.

Opis:
With advances in material technology come challenges to productivity. New materials are, in fact, more difficult to machine with regards to tool wear and especially machine tool stability. This paper proposes to extend the stability limits of the machining system by enhancing the structures damping capability. The aim of the research work presented here is to introduce a unified concept based on the distribution of damping within the machining system components exploiting the dynamic properties of the existing joints. To maintain a high level of static stiffness, it was chosen to adapt hydrostatic clamping systems to the tools. Damping is designed in the structure via high damping interfaces (HDI), intentionally introduced interfaces where the damping ratio is enhanced by introduction of viscoelastic polymer metal composites between the two metallic surfaces composing the interface. In this paper HDI are introduced at two joints, between tool and turret and between turret and lathe. The tests show that the designed-in damping is effective and allows extending the stability limits of the machining system. The implementation of designed-in damping allows the end user to select the most suitable parameters in terms of productivity avoiding the hassle of tuning the devices, having to acquire a deep knowledge in structural dynamics or having to use additional control systems. In addition to this, the enhanced machine tool system becomes less sensitive to stability issues provoked by difficult-to-machine materials or even fluctuations of the work material properties that might occur in everyday production processes.

There is often need to use welding methods in the aluminium alloys extrusion processes. Welding methods while extruding are divided in to transverse and longitudinal one. In paper the energy criterions for transverse and longitudinal joining during extrusion of aluminium alloys in warm conditions are showed. Numerical simulation results for two cylindrical billets transverse joining, during forward extruding with using the flat punch are presented. Irregularity in the billets material flow and presence of a void are proved. In order to equalization the flowing billets volumes streams, the numerical model for forward extrusion of cylindrical billets, with using the punch with a toe and initially formed upper billet is proposed. The application of this method causes both transverse and longitudinal welding schemes appearing. Combination of two welding schemas gives the product, which has a core made of material from the upper billet and external layers of the lower billet.

Device “DRECE - Dual Rolls Equal Channel Extrusion” is used for production of metallic materials with very fine grain size (UFG). During the actual forming process the principle of severe plastic deformation is used. Metallic strip with dimensions 57×2×1000 mm is inserted into the device. During the forming process the main cylinder in synergy with the pressure roller extrude the material through the forming tool without any change of cross section of the strip. In this way a significant refinement of grain is achieved by severe plastic deformation. This method is used for various types of metallic materials, non-ferrous metals and their alloys. The DRECE device is also being verified from the viewpoint of achievement of a UFG structure in a blank of circular cross-section (wire) with diameter of ϕ 8 mm × 1000 mm.
Urządzenie „DRECE - Dual Rolls Equal Channel Extrusion” znajduje swoje zastosowanie do wytwarzania metali o strukturze ultradrobnoziarnistej (UFG). W trakcie procesu wytwarzania stosuje się metodę wielokrotnej deformacji. W urządzeniu założona jest metalowa taśma o wymiarach 57×2×1000 mm. Podczas procesu formowania, główny cylinder we współdziałaniu z dociskowym wałkiem wytłaczającym odkształca materiał bez zmiany wymiaru przekroju poprzecznego taśmy.

The main goal of the research carried out was developing the design methodology for the new high-speed steels with the required properties, including hardness and fracture toughness, as the main properties guaranteeing the high durability and quality of tools made from them. It was decided that hardness and fracture toughness KIc are the criteria used during the high-speed steels design. In case of hardness, the statistical and neural netw chemical composition and its heat treatment parameters, i.e., austenitizing- and tempering temperatures. In the second case - high-speed steels fracture toughness, the neural network model was developed, makin it possible to compute the KIc factor based on the steel chemical composition and its heat treatment parameters. The developed material models were used for designing the chemical compositions if the new high-speed steel, demonstrating the desired properties, i.e., hardness and fracture toughness. Methodology was developed to this end, employing the evolutionary algorithms, multicriteria optimisation of the high-speed steels chemical composition.

Opis:
Resource efficiency is gaining relevance in every aspect of production. Hence, cutting tools are exposed to high demands regarding productivity and quality. Considering the various grinding operations in tool manufacturing, flute grinding is the most significant process step as it defines the peripheral cutting edge and the rake face. Therefore, it has a substantial influence on the machining behaviour of, for example, milling tools. When it comes to helical flutes, the complex contact conditions between grinding wheel and tool blank during the multiaxial grinding process are particularly difficult to determine. Due to the lack of knowledge about those contact conditions, the grinding wheels typically used for flute grinding cannot wholly meet the actual process requirements. In order to optimise the design of the grinding wheels, a numerical model was developed. Based on that, a simulation tool was implemented to analyse the complex contact conditions during flute grinding depending on the process parameters and tool/workpiece geometry. The influence of different grinding parameters on the effective contact length, the specific material removal rate and the equivalent chip thickness was evaluated by employing the computer-based model. The generated results were then used to develop a new optimised tool concept for a more efficient flute grinding process.

The paper describes the results of an R&D project whose aim was to work out a computer tool supporting the development of IT products with built-in security features. The tool ensures that all security measures are applied into a product with regards to the requirements of the ISO/IEC 15408 standard (Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation). Nowadays there are only a few, limited solutions which support developers in using the Common Criteria methodology. The proposed tool supports three basic processes: security development, product development, and product evaluation as well as writing special evidence documents based on design patterns. Developers used the tool in software- and hardware projects and demonstrated it facilitates and speeds up the development processes of IT security-enhanced products.

In the present work, the performance of multilayer coated carbide tool was investigated considering the effect of cutting parameters during turning of 34CrMo4 Low alloy steel. It has high strength and creep strength, and good impact tenacity at low temperature. It can work at –110°C to 500°C. And EN 10083-1 34CrMo4 owns high static strength, impact tenacity, fatigue resistance, and hardenability; without overheating tendencies. The objective functions were selected in relation to the parameters of the cutting process: surface roughness criteria. The correlations between the cutting parameters and performance measures, like surface roughness, were established by multiple linear regression models. Highly significant parameters were determined by performing an Analysis of variance (ANOVA). During the experiments flank wear, cutting force and surface roughness value were measured throughout the tool life. The results have been compared with dry and wet-cooled turning. Analysis of variance factors of design and their interactions were studied for their significance. Finally, a model using multiple regression analysis between cutting speed, fee rate and depth of cut with the tool life was established.
