Opis:
We compare three different approaches to parsing into syntactic, bilexical dependencies for English: a ‘direct’ data-driven dependenci parser, a statistical phrase structure parser, and a hybrid, ‘deep’ grammar-driven parser. The analyses from the latter two are postconverted to bi-lexical dependencies. Through this ‘reduction’ of All three approaches to syntactic dependency parsers, we determine empirically what performance can be obtained for a common set of dependenci types for English; in- and out-of-domain experimentation ranges over diverse text types. In doing so, we observe what trade-offs apply along three dimensions: accuracy, efficiency, and resilience to domain variation. Our results suggest that the hand-built grammar in one of our parsers helps in both accuracy and cross-domain parsing performance. When evaluated extrinsically in two downstream tasks – negation resolution and semantic dependency parsing – these accuracy gains do sometimes but not always translate into improved end-to-end performance.

Background: Both depressive disorders and nicotine use are proven and important risk factors of dementia. The purpose of this study was to verify if cigarette smoking and depression symptoms together are disadvantageous for the prognosis in mild cognitive impairment. Material and methods: A total of 43 patients with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment were included in the study. ADAS-Cog was performed upon inclusion in the study and again at least 2 years later. Additionally, patients with ≥18 points in MADRS were qualified as depressive. The Fagerström scale for nicotine dependence was administered to smokers. Results: Our study shows a relation between severity of depressive symptoms and further deterioration of cognitive functions according to ADAS-cog scale. Regression analysis revealed that smoking associated with severity of depressive disorders is also correlated with the progression of cognitive impairment. Conclusions: The results of our study are based on a small number of subjects and should be regarded as early findings. Moreover, nicotine dependency should not be regarded as an isolated factor affecting mood disorders and cognitive impairment progression. Further studies on larger groups of patients and using more sensitive methods of cognitive function assessment are needed.

We propose a strategy to build the distributional meaning of sentences mainly based on two types of semantic objects: context vectors associated with content words and compositional operations driven by syntactic dependencies. The compositional operations of a syntactic dependency make use of two input vectors to build two new vectors representing the contextualized sense of the two related words. Given a sentence, the iterative application of dependencies results in as many contextualized vectors as content words the sentence contains. At the end of the contextualization process, we do not obtain a single compositional vector representing the semantic denotation of the whole sentence (or of the root word), but one contextualized vector for each constituent word of the sentence. Our method avoids the troublesome high-order tensor representations of approaches relying on category theory, by defining all words as first-order tensors (i.e. standard vectors). Some corpus-based experiments are performed to both evaluate the quality of the contextualized vectors built with our strategy, and to compare them to other approaches on distributional compositional semantics. The experiments show that our dependency-based method performs as (or even better than) the state-of-the-art.

For them, we analyze the safety of a multistate parallel-series and “m out of l”-series system, assuming that the lifetimes of subsystem components in the safety state subset are decreasing according to the local load sharing rule and the lifetimes of subsystems are decreasing according to the equal load sharing rule.

A problem of parallel system reliability with dependent failures of components is presented in the paper. It is assumed that lifetimes of components are independent random variable having Weibull distribution. We take under consideration a parallel (in reliability meaning) system consisting of n independent at the beginning of work and identical components. We assume that a load of the working system affects on the reliability of its components and the load of the system is distributed on all working components. Therefore, a failure rate of each component is changeable during run of the system and depends on a number of working elements at this point in time. As a model of the system failures we construct a stochastic process which value at the moment t denotes the number of working components. Generally it is neither Markov nor semi-Markov process. To assess the reliability characteristics of the system we simulate this stochastic process using the Monte-Carlo method and we calculate values of nonparametric kernel density and reliability functions estimators.

Introduction and aim. The incidence of cancer is increasing on a daily basis. One of the methods used for treatment is radiotherapy. Owing to interventions during the radiotherapy process, the patient may experience care dependency. In this study, the aim was to investigate care dependence and related factors in radiation oncology patients. Material and methods. This was a descriptive and cross-sectional study. Data were collected between September 2020 and September 2021. In the collection of data, a sociodemographic information form and a Care Dependency Scale were used. The sample consisted of 52 people. Results. Number of participants was 52, mean age was 60.25±11.715, mean care dependency score (initial) 66.19±18.966, mean care addiction score (final) 66.27±22.795. Conclusion. The care dependency of patients hospitalized in the radiation oncology clinic is moderate. The care dependency of these patients decreased partially during their stay in the clinic. The patient’s inability to walk, speak and the presence of a companion affected the patient’s condition. By evaluating the care dependency levels of the patients, the awareness of the nurses about their patients can be increased. In addition, it may be appropriate to consider the care dependency levels of the patients for the nurse workforce planning to work in the oncology clinic.

In spite of efforts on the part of the European Union to promote renewable sources of energy, conventional resources such as oil, natural gas and coal still dominate in individual EU energy mixes. With the rising costs of resources, their uneven distribution and limited supply, each state is busy trying to ensure its energy security. Secure and stable supply of energy resources has becoming the main preoccupation, especially in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Over the recent years, the Visegrád Group states have made particularly intensive efforts to ensure their supply of natural gas. The unstable political situation in the east of Europe as well as changes in natural gas markets (shale gas revolution in the USA, increased importance of LNG) gave rise to new challenges when it comes to ensuring gas security, but also new opportunities to become independent of eastern imports. It is precisely the fact of being dependent on natural gas imported from Russia that determines the situation of Visegrád Group states. The present paper tries to analyse the situation in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary in terms of security of their natural gas supply.

A case study of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship is presented in this article. From the European Union's perspective, Lower Silesia is an example of a less developed region; however, it is also an example of a region that has improved significantly in regards to development due to a change in its innovation model. The purpose of this article is to identify the factors that have had an impact on the change in the region's development path (stimulants), as well as to indicate the weaknesses and barriers limiting further development. This article is based on a review of the literature, statistical data analysis as well as structured, in-depth interviews that were conducted with representatives of regional and local authorities, scientific units and business-related institutions. Recommendations for the regional policy of Lower Silesia have been formulated on this basis.

Opis:
An automatic analysis of product reviews requires deep understanding of the natural language text by machine. The limitation of bag-of-words (BoW) model is that a large amount of word relation information from the original sentence is lost and the word order is ignored. Higher-order-N-grams also fail to capture the long-range dependency relations and word order information. To address these issues, syntactic features extracted from the dependency relations can be used for machine learning based document-level sentiment classification. Generalization of syntactic dependency features and negation handling is used to achieve more accurate classification. Further to reduce the huge dimensionality of the feature space, feature selection methods based on information gain (IG) and weighted frequency and odds (WFO) are used. A supervised feature weighting scheme called delta term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) is also employed to boost the importance of discriminative features using the observed uneven distribution of features between the two classes. Experimental results show the effectiveness of generalized syntactic dependency features over standard features for sentiment classification using Boolean multinomial naive Bayes (BMNB) classifier.

Opis:
Objective: The objective of this paper is to show the connection between economic openness with economic growth and attempt to answer the following question: Did the accession to EU had any affect on correlation between economic growth and the economic openness? Research Design & Methods: The research method adopted here was a study of correlation among the variables. Program "Statistica" have been used to study this correalation. Economic growth plays the role of a dependent variable and is estimated according to GDP. An economy’s openness is an independent variable and is estimated by the openness factor calculated using this formula: the sum of exports and imports divided by GDP. Findings: Not all research agrees with the idea of the positive influence of openness in the economy on economic growth. In 2004, the former ‘Eastern Bloc’ countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Slovak Republic, Slovenia) joined the European Union, offering an opportunity to study the effects of accession. Implications & Recommendations: The study has been divided into two phases. The first phase examines the relation between the economic growth rate and the openness factor for the 24 countries which were members of the EU in 2004. The results show a positive correlation between the studied variables. Afterwards, each of the eight listed countries were researched concerning two time periods: the first from before their accession to the EU and the second after their accession to the EU. Correlation research does not satisfactorily settle this aspect. In the second phase of the study, a longer time horizon was allowed and the former Eastern Bloc countries were researched again. The results were explicit and credible. A positive and statistically substantial correlation for the researched countries was achieved. Contribution & Value Added: On the basis of the conducted research the following conclusions were drawn. An analysis of the correlation between economic growth and economic openness shows a positive dependency with the following assumptions: the researched group consists of the 24 EU countries in 2004 and the research is done within the 2004-2015 period. The twice-run correlation research for the time periods 1995-2004 and 2004-2015 respectively and for the eight selected countries does not present explicit results. Consequently, it cannot be concluded that accession to the EU has positively influenced the correlation between economic growth and economic openness. The correlation research for 1995-2015 and the eight selected countries do confirm the popularity of the idea of the positive influence of the economic openness on economic growth.

Functional dependency with degree of satisfaction (FDd) is an extended notion in data modeling, and reflects a type of integrity constraints and business rules on attributes, mainly for massive databases, in which incomplete data such as noise, null and imprecision may exist. While existing approaches are considered effective in general, attempts for further improvement in efficiency are deemed meaningful and desirable as far as knowledge discovery is concerned. This paper focuses on discovering (FDd)s as a form of useful semantic knowledge, aiming at providing an enhancement to the FDd mining process in a more efficient manner. In doing so, properties of FDd are in-depth investigated along with a measure for degree of distinctness. Subsequently, a number of optimization strategies are developed for pre-processing, which are then incorporated into the mining process, giving rise to an enhanced approach for mining functional dependency with degree of satisfaction, namely e-MFDD. Finally, data experiments revealed that e-MFDD significantly outperformed the original approach without pre-processing.

Th is study examines the questions of ethics and transparency in Russian journalism. Th e paper explains instances of non-transparent behavior among Russian journalists in light of economic hardship that Russian journalists in the province face in their everyday life. Specifi cally, this study attempts to explicate the connection between transparency, journalism ethics, and economic and social conditions in which regional journalists function in Russia. Th is paper argues that morality may depend on economic conditions of an individual and poor economic conditions tend to diminish human dignity. In turn, diminished human dignity more readily puts in jeopardy professional ethical principles and contributes to non-transparent media practices. Poor economic conditions have implications for regional journalism practice in Russia, where they create a vicious circle which Russian journalists fail to break.

According to economic geography literature, the success of firms is affected by the local context, in particular when firms are socio-spatially embedded. We expect this effect to be stronger when firms face an increase in local disorder. We analysed data on 344 firms (active in retail, eating and drinking establishments, personal services and private education, business services, cultural activities, manufacturing and building) in 108 Dutch residential neighbourhoods, and data on the changes in social and physical disorder of those neighbourhoods, to examine firm success determinants. We find that it is not the degree of disorder that matters to local firms turnover, but rather recent changes in local disorder. More in particular, we find that local firm turnover is negatively affected by an increase in local disorder, but only when a firm depends on daily visits from predominantly local customers. Our results suggest that physical and social local interventions to create safe and clean public spaces will indirectly positively influence local firms and subsequently, the neighbourhood economy. This spill-over effect is promising for both residents, who benefit from local amenities and local ‘buzz’, and local entrepreneurs, whose firm success is stimulated.

One of the manifestations of the social changes observed over the last decades is the increase in the availability of moodchanging substances and the tendency of young people to use them. This phenomenon is inseparable from a specific lifestyle and often results in exceeding social norms and breaking the law. Therefore, the current challenge is to seek effective opportunities to help addicts. As far as youth is concerned, the dimension of institutional rehabilitation, ensuring temporary isolation from the social context related to the current lifestyle, becomes particularly important. This article presents an understanding of the phenomenon of addiction from the perspective of a solution-focused approach according to the concept of the Belgian psychiatrist Luc Isebaert, co-author of the Bruges Model. Moreover, it presents institutional solutions tested in clinical conditions at the 24-hour Youth Addiction Treatment Clinic in Toruń, based on the idea of free choice. Free choice, taking into account the trap of addiction, can be treated as a desired outcome of rehabilitation effects, as well as a means leading to it. The key to responsibility remains independence, which we create by building subjectivity and freedom of choice.
