The EU is promoting cultural relations with Asian countries. While building interpersonal and institutional connections, the EU pays special attention to Japan. The image of the EU and its mutual relations with Japan are generally recognised as predominantly good and trustworthy. This paper will examine the process of building creative/progressive cultural relations between the EU and Japan based on two hypotheses; first: despite the fact that the EU tried to develop cultural relations within Japan, the embassies of the EU Member States are far more active in cultural programs than the EU Delegation; and secondly: the reception of the EU as a historic and cultural project is rather fragmented (as opposed to being holistic) in Japan. The aim of this research is to analyse, compare, and evaluate both the effort and achievements made by the EU and Japan in the process of building creative cultural relations. The research will demonstrate an analytical approach in the political sciences discipline.

The relational view perceives cultural fit as a factor allowing cooperation and influencing its performance. It is believed that knowledge about the dominant cultural profile allows organizations to adjust their own cultural profile, and thus increase the cultural fit and improve the cooperation process. The role of cultural fit is of particular importance in markets favoring cooperation and networking, thus our investigation has been sited within the video game industry. Our explorative findings reveal the most typical cultural features, cultural competitive values and models of culture of video game developers. In particular they show, there are differences in cultural aspects between developers of premium and F2P games. In general, organizational cultures of game developers are based mainly on flexibility and best suit the adhocracy culture.

Culture financing is becoming particularly important due to the growing global demand for funds in culture, even as financial institutions attitudes to such financing become more prudent. One method of obtaining funds is by using crowdfunding platforms whose role is not limited to merely raising capital, but also to creating demand or interest among stakeholders of cultural projects. Social support for culture is growing rapidly in the United States and gradually in the EU. The analysis of the market of culture crowdfunding platforms in Europe allows researchers to formulate some conclusions on projects, support attitudes and follow market trends. Crowdfunding can be an opportunity to implement many cultural projects and verify support for them.

Opis:
As the world becomes more and more culturally diverse, an accurate knowledge of the influence of cultural factors on the mental processes of an individual and the construction of social capital become increasingly important for our ability to effectively understand differences in culture. How can we cope with this task in everyday life? What is the relevance of comparative education in this process? One solution could be to create a certain intellectual map of cultural similarities and differences to which we could refer at any time in order to better understand the diversity around us. Such a peculiar encyclopaedia of knowledge about the diversity of the world has not yet been created, and it is unlikely that it will, given the dynamics of social processes, the multiplicity of events and ways of understanding them. Then how can a rational model for dealing with cultural diversity be created? In this article, I want to draw attention to the importance of comparative education in the creation of such a model, taking into account the relatively new position of comparativists recognising that a considerably important role in the process of coping with cultural diversity and difference is played i.a. by dialogic memory.

Opis:
The problem of representing the Polish cultural landscape consists of two components. The first component is the choice of content. Wishing to define the breadth of the content of a cultural landscape map, one needs to remember that it is composed of two facets. The first facet, the material result of human activity, is easily discernable in the field and easily illustrated on a map. Elements included in this facet are: sacred and secular historical structures, the spatial layout of cities, archeological sites etc. The second facet of cultural landscape needs to be considered in immaterial terms. It is difficult to illustrate on a map, because its elements do not lend themselves to being topographically situated. One could mention, for example, religions, customs and traditions, a common historical past etc. Most often, one can only indirectly speculate about this facet of the cultural landscape, on the basis of the material characteristics of the cultural landscape. The second problem related to presenting cultural landscape on a map is the choice of graphic form for the map. The problem is to a large extent tied to difficulties stemming from the necessity of maintaining semantic correctness (the relation between “symbol” and “object”). In practice, during the graphic editing of a map representing the cultural landscape, one should remember to: a) choose a scale suitable for the representation, upon which depend the degree of detail and the generalization of the content; b) correctly depict the variation boundaries, taking into account sharp and fuzzy boundaries; c) make a well-designed symbol key.

Opis:
The aim of this essay is a philosophical reconstruction of the category of Eastern Europe (as topographical and ethical, and only by implication a geographical one). This will proceed in three steps. First, deconstruction of the category in question by exposing its colonialist and post-colonialist origins. Second, projection of a new cultural geography of Eastern Europe. The main criteria of which are: 1) belonging to the European community of values, 2) being directly and permanently exposed to a paradoxical cultural formation, neither European nor Asian, which poses a constant threat to all neighboring states and nations – Russia. In the third step, Eastern Europe is presented as a specifically determined way of living, experiencing, and self-understanding, localized in particular space(s); that is, a particular ethos rooted in a concrete topos/topoi. This ethos has been driven by the ideals of freedom, equality, cultural diversity, and the sovereignty of the people; and actualized in a kind of cultural flexibility, hybridity, and polyphony. However, this ethos has never been something given. It has been gradually developing throughout its dramatic history, and this was not only a history of those sublime ideals (and their partial actualization), but also of their real and brutal negation. That is why this ethos is grounded in a constantly renewed activity of self-questioning and self-searching, in a persistently recurrent will of self-determination; and that is also why Eastern Europe cannot be enclosed in a single narrative, but it expresses itself through different and often competing stories.

In our research we are seeking for a Lower Silesian identity, we are especially interested in the Polish-German cultural heritage in social remembrance (or social oblivion). In the article our basic purpose is to provide the grounds for discussion about the presence of the sacred space in social memory (the old German Calvary as a part of contemporary Lubawka’s cultural heritage), using group interviews with visual presentations to stimulate a journey back into the past, to familiarize with the place and its images. We aim at the reconstruction of “social frames of memory”, the moments when the small sacral architecture began to lose its religious mad social power, and we also want to show young residents’ attitudes towards this process. The project also seems to have some social value because it may become an introduction to the debate on preserving the Calvary as an element of local identity.

It focuses on innovation typologies giving special attention to the existing statistical framework of cultural activities and to guidelines for innovation data collection in their interconnection, as well as to the phenomena of ‘soft’ and ‘hidden’ innovation. An attempt is also made to extend the term ‘innovation’ beyond the traditional understanding in a way that it reflects the specificity of the cultural sector.

The debate on European cultural policy has only just begun. What is intended to be the object is unknown. Even if the answer seems obvious that these cultures o f the Member States, we still do not know whether it will be called. “High culture”, remaining in the elite circle of interest, or so. “Pop culture”? Perhaps the answer is indirect, and refers to the culture that we do not know from the media, the internet, billboards and banner ads, but rather that which we know through membership in a particular social group, religious community, and most of all family.

The text is a presentation of an anthropological project of research on culinaries constructed in such a way to be accessible also to practitioners of other disciplines of the humanities. The proposed range of topics was embedded in four general discourses: the temporal discourse, the spatial discourse, the discourse of identity and the discourse of cultural trends. These discourses may fulfill the role of cultural categories (as interpreted by Gurevich),and thus be descriptive and interpretative tools. Investigation of the cultural phenomenon of things culinary does not pertain only to those them; it also reveals various “faces” of culture in the era of fluid modernity.

European integration is obviously impeded by the national and nation-state idea that is still vigorous and motivates European Union (EU) member states' refusals to cede powers to the EU or subnational levels. Recent events like the global economic crisis, the Euro crisis, the migration crisis and the coronavirus pandemic have, however, demonstrated that it is not just the national idea and the nation state that appear to seriously hinder further integration, but that fundamental diferences in cultural attitudes in diferent parts of Europe are also responsible. They can be traced back to earlier periods of history and a Europe that consisted of parts with very divergent economic, social and political attitudes. These disparities are dificult to equalize. The article highlights Europe's major cultural diferentiation processes in history, hints at their current traces in economic, social and political attitudes and relates those attitudes to problems in European integration.

The objective of this article is to describe surveys carried out in Poland which facilitated a comparison of selected forms of cultural activity and ways of cultural participation by people in their early and late adulthood, as well as its conditions and associated opinions. The analysis demonstrated that the model of cultural participation changes with age, which is a factor strongly differentiating between the mentioned fields of research. The majority of young people prefer mediated cultural participation, in which the Internet plays a significant role. Seniors prefer direct and elite forms of cultural activity. The respondents also differ in the way they assess the attractiveness of the forms of direct contact with culture. Most young people find popular music concerts and film screenings attractive, while seniors tend to go to classical music concerts, operettas and theatre performances. Adults also differ in respect of their opinions on the benefits of cultural participation and the majority of the associated barriers.
