Opis:
Uncertainty is not a novel issue in strategic management, hence one may notice that the modern world is becoming increasingly volatile and unpredictable. The literature points out that uncertainty and crises situations change not only the business environment and business implementation, but the effects of uncertainty also have an impact on interorganizational cooperation. This article focuses on exploring the significance of uncertainty stemming from a large-scale emergency situation (i.e. the COVID-19 pandemic) for the course of interorganizational cooperation (IC). The research was conducted in Poland within a group of 30 interviewees (in total 5 virtual FGIs) representing four creative industries. Our research shows that in conditions of uncertainty, interorganizational cooperation in creative industries still existed. However, very often cooperation had a completely different form, because three main elements changed: (1) IC partners, (2) opportunities to build social relationships underlying the establishment of IC, and (3) motives and goals of undertaking cooperation.

This article describes current production practices taking place in the sound industry, concentrating on the process of implementation and popularization of Creative Commons. Existing studies have considered the role of classical copyright in the creative industries, pointing at its functions in regulating the creative process, but so far have not extensively examined its relationship to alternative intellectual property frameworks. This paper uses the empirical example of the largest sound repository to describe the change occurring in cultural production. The article posits that mass popularization of Creative Commons provokes transformation within three key and intersecting areas of production, including the subjects of property (creators), objects of property (creations) and articulation of usage (source information). The paper theoretically frames and expands our understanding of change provoked by open licensing and its relationship to the creative production process.

Research background: In order to achieve systematic development and growth of creative industries, instead of its being a random process, effective cultural policy tools need to be implemented. This task is greatly burdened by the fact that creative industries are a heterogeneous concept. Evidence suggests that indirect state aid is one of the most effective ways to stimulate growth and development of audiovisual segment. Lithuanian indirect state aid case suggests that there is still a great deal of confusion and misconception with the implementation and exploitation of this tool. Purpose of the article: To analyze how effectively indirect state aid is constructed to stimulate growth and development of the Lithuanian animation industry. Methods: This paper uses two methods to gather data. The first one is a quantitative questionnaire design to evaluate the overall situation of Lithuanian animation industry. The second method involves qualitative semi-structured interviews to collect specific data about Lithuanian film tax incentive from representatives of government institutions that administrate local fiscal incentive scheme and representatives of audiovisual industries. Findings & Value added: Results show that although Lithuanian film tax incentive can be considered as a successful cultural policy tool that brought a noticeable inward investment to the local film industry and economy in general, it had no positive effect on the local animation industry. The gathered evidence suggests that indirect aid tool should be constructed with more of surgical precision for each industry, rather than a fit-for-all cultural policy tool.

Collaborative places nurture creativity and efficiency of cultural and creative industries. Research in collaborative places revealed they are essential for networking and cooperation in the creative ecosystem. The results of studies focusing on competitiveness of coworking spaces and their effect on boosting entrepreneurship are rather vague. Furthermore, an awareness of how coworking spaces stimulate coworkers to engage in urban regeneration through local community initiatives is limited. Hence, this study seeks to provide an insight into coworking spaces from the organizational perspective devoted to entrepreneurship and competitiveness. Simultaneously, the paper aims to reveal synergies between creative communities and local development. The method of data gathering consists of semi-structured in-depth interviews with managers and entrepreneurs from selected countries of the EU applying the grounded theory for their analysis. The results suggest that coworking spaces indicate a boosting of the entrepreneurship of the creative class through collective projects. These activities tend to stimulate knowledge creation and open innovation in the creative ecosystem that benefit local development. Coworking spaces also represent a driving force to initiate and maintain a dialogue between the creative ecosystem and local authorities for culture-led urban development.

This study investigates the eco-innovation variable which has the significant effect on creative industries center’s performance of marble and natural stone craft sector in Tulungagung, Indonesia. The object of the study is the creative industries center with the non-renewable raw material. Mostly, the companies are in form of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) which is ‘passive eco-innovator’ and their eco-innovation variables have not been investigated before in terms of their influence on their performance. The respondents were 81 craftsmen taken from the population. The data were collected through questionnaires which were tested, processed and analyzed by using Consistent Partial Least Square (PLSc). The eco-innovation variables which significantly effect on innovative performance are eco-organizational innovation and eco-product innovation. Eco-process innovation and eco-marketing innovation don’t directly affect on innovative performance, but its significant effect on eco-product innovation may influence innovative performance. Improving innovative performance will impact on financial performance through improvement of production performance, but market performance does not significantly affect financial performance. The findings of this study could be a reference for creative industries center’s of marble and natural stone craft sector to prioritize which type of eco-innovation should be improved so that its impact on performance is more significant.

In recent years, more and more often urban centers take steps to strengthening their role in the creative sector and creative industries. Efforts of this kind are taken more frequently in large cities. Below, I describe the most common actions aimed at the development of creative industries based on its type, such as: financial aid for entrepreneurs, cooperation of cities, revitalization of urban areas, and social actions. My detailed analysis is based on the example of Wrocław. The biggest achievements of this city so far are connected with the construction of new objects of cultural activities and the number of meetings and cultural events. There are, however, negative aspects of policies implemented in Wrocław; they include lack of creative clusters on significant effects of the operation, shortage of activities in private entities, which could contribute to increasing the involvement of private entities especially among medium and large companies.

Creative industries do not make revolutions in city planning but transform the ways of thinking about and practicing urban space development. In the context of Minsk, Belarus, creative industries are a part of the contemporary urban infrastructure transformation that is reestablishing the former Soviet urban space. The aim of this article is to document and analyze the ways that creative industries turn the urban spaces of Minsk into participatory platforms for cultural transformations. The development of these creative industries in Belarus has played a crucial role in transforming urban spaces into new inclusive cities. The distinctive feature of Belarusian creative industries is their embeddedness in the spaces of Soviet cities. Empirically, this text is based on the findings of a qualitative empirical study in the framework of grounded theory. The research seeks to understand the self-narrative and self-identification of the new creative class in Minsk (spring and summer 2018). The respondents were people who are involved in the process of developing creative industries in Belarus.

The paper aims to present changes in the structure of activities undertaken in Lodz, oriented towards the development of the service sector, including creative industries. A well-developed service sector provides a city and its residents with a long-term income increase and – in the case of Lodz – it creates opportunities to overcome industrial monoculture. The paper will present the dynamics of the service sector development in Lodz during Poland’s economic transformation. The conducted analysis will be based on the available statistical data. Many publications and reports related to the socioeconomic situation of the city will be also used for the purpose of the paper. Conclusions will allow to indicate the role and importance of the service sector in the city economy and to determine the competitive position of the city in the European dimension.

Our study contributes to a limited body of literature and aims to examine the type and frequency of linkages between creative industries and higher education institutions (HEIs). The objective of our study is to investigate the extent to which various types of linkages contribute to enhanced innovative capabilities in creative industries. Based on a qualitative research design and a case study carried out in a peripheral south-western Norwegian county, our empirical analysis shows that HEIs are generally not very relevant partners and that other actors are mainly involved in innovation dynamics. As clarified and discussed in the paper, this finding largely depends on some specific characteristics of HEIs, the form of knowledge primarily employed by creative firms (symbolic knowledge base), and the cultural divergence between the two spheres.

The value of key firms’ assets in a global competitive economy has a crucial role in their development. In creative industries, these assets mainly have a non-physical character. The paper presents the results of research in 223 firms in the IT sector in Kraków. The research was questionnaire-based and aimed to assess the importance of factors which determine the decision to create a firm in this city. Another aspect of the research is connected with the estimation of the value of factors which, in the opinion of their managers, contribute to their firms’ competitiveness. Kraków is a city where the IT sector is well developed (with research centres of such multinational companies like IBM, Google, Motorola, ABB), and the research studies the nature of interactions among the firms in the sector. The role of institutional environment in the firms’ development as an important factor in their growth is also researched, as are evaluations of the profits made by the firms as a result of cooperation with universities, R & D units, other IT firms, and personal relations. Special attention is paid to institutional aspects of direct government stimulation of innovativeness and knowledge transfer.
Wartość kluczowych zasobów firm w warunkach globalnej gospodarki odgrywa zasadniczą rolę w ich rozwoju. W przemysłach kreatywnych zasoby te posiadają głównie niematerialny charakter. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań 223 firm sektora technologii informacyjnych w Krakowie. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona kwestiom dotyczącym instytucjonalnych aspektów stymulowania innowacyjności i transferu wiedzy.

One can’t notice that the contemporary creativity, like innovation, has become the word-key, contemporary mantra, which often referenced (misused) in public discourse, particularly strongly affects the social imagination (imaginaries) as well as reality at the beginning of the XXI century. Direct result of this unprecedented popularity is the growing interest in many scientific disciplines, each of which within its semantic field defines this concept in its own way (different context), which obviously leads to growing confusion or ambiguity (of terminology). What's more, within so called colloquial discourse we often have to deal with inaccuracy or inconsistency in building the discourse, absorbance of different meanings and ways of understanding the creativity, without taking into account the existing differences between them, which further obscures more than brightens the entire discourse and impede the agreement. Meanwhile, the meaning of the term of creativity, rarely, if ever, is subjected to broader (public) discussion or deeper reflection - this article is the excerpt from broader my publication (polish monograph) upon the reflection on defining and understanding the concept of creativity [Kasza 2016] which basically relates to the on-going dispute between the culture, art, and economics in refers to different ways (contexts) of its defining or understanding. The fundamental in its essence dispute, that applies to both ideological issues (different values) as well as political ones (different interests)- is crucial not only for understanding the current mechanisms of creating values in postmodern culture, art, economy or management at the beginning of the XXI century, but also for future scenarios and/or their development strategies.

This study investigates the emergence and the rise of Creative Hubs (CHs) in Istanbul, which as Turkey’s economic capital contains most of its creative workforce and the largest number of its CHs. In the last 10 years, the number of co-working spaces (CWSs), incubation centres (ICs), labs, and makerspaces in the city has rapidly increased, following a global trend. This study aims to better understand the changing working forms of the city by investigating the motivations behind the emergence of CHs. 46 CH examples, consisting of CWSs, ICs, makerspaces, and labs, have been examined for this purpose. The study is structured around the four main categories that highlight the different aspects of CHs: structure (establishment structure and community structure), focus (sectors and professions), services (physical and social facilities), and values (motivation). The findings of the study demonstrate that members of CHs are mostly freelancers, entrepreneurs, micro SMSs, and start-ups, consisting mostly of members of Generation Y. They work predominantly in creative sectors and tend to look for flexible and cost-saving solutions, support mechanisms, and new connections for their work. The research revealed that CHs are distinguished through the services that they provide. Having emerged as new forms to respond to the distinctive needs of emerging jobs in the creative economy era, they can be considered a new landscape of the post-industrial city.
