Opis:
A complex-harmonic analysis technique was used for mathematical analysis of electric circuit containing a vibrating-plate capacitor. An equation for the transducer function of such a circuit is obtained. Amplitude and phase frequency characteristics of a circuit were calculated using a MathCAD program. Recommendations on implementation of a different frequency characteristic's parts in a measurement system design are formulated on a basis of graphical analysis.
Technika analizy zespolonych składowych widmowych została wykorzystana do matematycznej analizy obwodu elektrycznego zawierającego kondensator z wibrującą okładką.

Opis:
System-based research remains an important yet usually outdated and internally contradictory approach in political science and international relations. Based on concepts borrowed from physiology, cybernetics, and general system theory, the system-based approach popularised in the 1960s was cast away as outdated and ill-focused. Despite those systems, the theory was developed in natural sciences, eventually creating a paradigm more applicable to domestic and international politics. The weakest element of past systems (like the one proposed by D. Easton) was that they did not allow for a sudden and catastrophic transformation and lacked emergence. This paper aims to present a model that would allow for the system’s ordinary and catastrophic transformation. The complex adaptive system features were defined using relevant literature on a paradigm of complexity. Connecting it with the propositions of D. Easton, R. Axelrod, and M. Cohen, as well as R. Jervis, such a model was constructed. The theoretical introduction is supplanted with a general case study of the early phases of the Arab Spring in Tunisia. The model mirrors the complex systems’ dynamics, considering the agent-structure problem.

Opis:
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data are acquired as a natively complex data set, however for various reasons the phase data is typically discarded. Over the past few years, interest in incorporating the phase information into the analyses has been growing and new methods for modeling and processing the data have been developed. In this paper, we provide an overview of approaches to understand the complex nature of fMRI data and to work with the utilizing the full information, both the magnitude and the phase. We discuss the challenges inherent in trying to utilize the phase data, and provide a selective review with emphasis on work in our group for developing biophysical models, preprocessing methods, and statistical analysis of the fully-complex data. Of special emphasis are the use of data-driven approaches, which are particularly useful as they enable us to identify interesting patterns in the complex-valued data without making strong assumptions about how these changes evolve over time, something which is challenging for magnitude data and even more so for the complex data. Finally, we provide our view of the current state of the art in this area and make suggestions for what is needed to make efficient use of the fully-complex fMRI data.

Opis:
The output of a generator in power plant is the electricity, and it consists of two parts, active and reactive power. These quantities are expressed as complex numbers in which the real part is the active power and the imaginary part is the reactive power. Reactive power plays an important role in an electricity network. Ignoring it will exclude a lot of information. With regard to the importance of the generators in power plants, surely, calculating the efficiency of these units is of great importance. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a nonparametric approach to measure the relative efficiency of Decision-Making Units (DMUs). Since the generators data are complex numbers, thus, if we the use classical DEA models in order to measure the efficiency of the generators in power plants, the reactive power cannot be considered, and the measurement is limited to the real number of electric power. In this paper, a new DEA model with complex numbers is developed in order to assess the performance of the power plant generators.

In underground mines, where the deposit is located at considerable depths, mining shafts are key excavations. The project of making the deposit available requires selection of appropriate shaft sinking technology adapted to geological and hydrological conditions and natural hazards. Shafts can be made using the classic drilling and blasting technique or mechanical cutting of the shaft face. Mechanical cutting requires the use of a mining machine, which together with machines for loading and hauling the output and protecting the side walls is a shaft complex. Drilling using mechanized shaft complexes allows for high efficiency and work safety. To improve the efficiency of drilling, it is particularly important to implement many processes in parallel. The article presents an analysis of the progress of shaft sinking with a mechanized complex as a function of technical and organizational parameters. The analysis concerned a new generation cutting shaft complex, developed for the needs of shaft sinking for one of the Polish hard coal mines. The calculations were carried out for a shaft with a maximum diameter of 9.5 m and a total depth of 830 m. The article briefly presents a new solution for the shaft complex. There are presented results of calculations of daily drilling progress and total time of shaft sinking for the developed working technology of this complex. The efficiency of the complex depends on many factors related to technical parameters of individual machines and devices forming the complex and organizational parameters, hence a multi-variant analysis was carried out.

Opis:
A hybrid procedure of Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and reliability analysis is described, discussed, and summarized. The procedure is specifically referred to as a Genetic Algorithms-aided (GAs-aided) reliability analysis. Two classes of GAs, namely simple GAs and multimodal GAs, are introduced to solve a number of important problems in reliability analysis. The problems cover the determination of Point of Maximum Likelihood in failure domain (PML), the computation of failure probability using the GAs-determined PML, and the determination of multiple design points. The MCS-based method using the GAs-determined PML is specifically implemented in the so-called an Importance Sampling around PML (ISPML). The application of GAs to each respective problem is then demonstrated via numerical examples in order to clarify the procedures. With an aid from GAs, reliability analysis is possible even if there is no information about the geometry or landscape of limit state surfaces and the total number of crucial likelihood points. In addition, GAs significantly improve the computational efficiency and realize the analysis of rare events under constrained computational resources. The implementation of GAs to reliability analysis for building up the hybrid procedure is readily because of their algorithmic simplicity.
