Opis:
Life in the 21st century has presented people with unprecedented appeals and ethical challenges which are nowhere more evident than in educational institutions as well as in the online space. A renewed interest in the character as one of the crucial ethical developments is gaining momentum today. Good character is based on the virtues one possesses. We argue that education focused on the cultivation of intellectual virtues such as curiosity, intellectual humility, intellectual autonomy, attentiveness, intellectual carefulness, intellectual thoroughness, openmindedness, intellectual courage and intellectual tenacity are needed for individuals to lead fulfilling lives. At least, growing in intellectual virtues seems to be a valuable and desirable educational aim. This theoretical study strives to make a twofold contribution to the area of knowledge: firstly, it aims to contribute to the area of character and moral education through describing its forms and features; and secondly, it aims to contribute to virtue epistemology by identifying its nature and focus and outlining nine intellectual or epistemic virtues. Further to the second contribution, the study ends by arguing that the intellectual virtue approach and the critical thinking approach both help to cultivate intellectually virtuous critical thinkers.

Opis:
The article begins with a review and analysis of the literature on Character and Citizenship Education in Singapore in grades 1-2, with particular reference to values in education. The understanding of values in terms of Marwin Berkowitz, Fritz Oser and Wiel Veugelers is the theoretical basis of the article. The analysis of curriculum began with a review of the literature on values in education. The next stage was to analyse the curriculum along with its Core Values (Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Integrity, Care and Harmony), embodied in the five domains, its three Big Ideas (Identity, Relationship, Choices) and its guiding principles in grades 1-2. Education here comes across as an interaction between various sets of teachers’ values and the ongoing construction of students’ values. The key part of the study is to analyse the Singaporean Character and Citizenship Education, principally its parts which involve the Core Values. Key Understandings and Key Questions make it possible for students to become involved in the variance of values in a constructive and critical manner. Documents concerning the subject of the analysis were studied by means of a problem method, which is based on an educational phenomenon examining various consistent factors related to time and society.

This study describes the model of living values education (LVE) in school habituation activities and its impact on character development. It employs the design of research and development in junior and senior high-schools in Bandung. The model of LVE in school habituation is carried out by clearly defining the values of life and expected behaviors, learning of values in the real life contexts, regular awards for expected behaviors, proactive correction of deviant behaviors through clear procedures, and by using the principle of example, correction, awards, and enforcement. The application of the model of LVE in school habituation significantly affects the student’s character development by 42.1%. Thus, the model of LVE in habituation program can be implemented in schools.

The analysis included the reception of René Le Senne’s theory of personality by  psychology and pedagogy of the second half of the 20th century. The work reveals  the extraordinary topicality of the typology in modern times, with still the observed  lack of cooperation between psychologists and educators dealing with pedagogical  axiology, the theory of upbringing and education. The typology survived thanks to  the treatises of an outstanding scientist – Professor Janusz Tarnowski, whose dissertations in the field of personal-existential pedagogy of dialogue are reconstructed in  this work and supplemented with philosophical interpretation by Tadeusz Gadacz  in order to understand why the Le Senne’s typology is absent from social sciences  and humanities as the basis for modern upbringing and self-education.

Opis:
Animated film characters represent various attitudes, points of view and issues, including social problems. Many of them are shown as carriers of socially approved character traits, who have an important mission or fight for the greater good. It must be emphasised that a film hero, as the key element of the film plot is the centre of attention for a viewer. The holistic reception, including all the values, norms and principles, proves to be an effective tool during educational and therapeutic work. Thanks to considerations into the social dimension of activities, based on the example of particular characters, it is possible to appreciate in animated films the significance of the issues which are still unnoticed and regarded as childish. The development of this topic is the result of the researcher’s own research into the social message of animated works.

Personalistic moral education in catechesis primarily involves accompanying human being in his development, which should aim at the fullness of humanity and self-empowerment as the human person. Personalistic moral formation is based on the human person and his inalienable and irreducible dignity. Catechesis, conveying the moral message, does not teach one of many theories of human good conduct, but explains the truth about the human being as a person, his inalienable dignity. The teaching of morality is, therefore, no savoir-vivre, but is ontic in character, i.e. involves personal creativity and leads the human person to perfection and sanctity. A personalistic approach to moral education requires that the human being should not only be the executor of the Divine law, but a co-host, invited to seek the truth. Hence in the personalistic approach, moral formation is not a technique of influencing the person and does not require respect of norms and obligations. Nor does it concentrate on the deification of the law and legality or involve moralising, but is based on the meeting and communion of the human person with Jesus Christ and on the following and imitation of His Person. The entire process of moral education is to benefit the person and help her to be more herself, to assure her dignity through moving from the humanity of nature to the humanity of the person.
