Opis:
A unique, consistent, and uniform earthquake catalog is crucial for assessing seismic hazards in any locality. This study aims at compiling and processing a better uniform earthquake catalog, using this catalog to identify the probable subduction zone, and assessing seismicity parameters for Bangladesh. The study area is bounded by the geographical limits 16–29°N and 86–96°E. It includes a sum of 48,342 events which are compiled as 1.0 to 8.5 magnitudes (MW) and time period from 1548 to 2020 yrs. Uniformization is made between the body, surface wave, and moment magnitude scales to unify the catalog in terms of MW. For seismic hazard assessment or prediction studies, this catalog comprises earthquake events from Bangladesh and adjoining regions. The assessed MC obtained is around 4.0–5.0, which leads to a, b value varying between 0.71–1.12 and an a value varying between 4.85–7.12. The findings show that the MC is lower at the border of the Chittagong-Sylhet through Hill tracts than the northern part of the area with an MC 4.5–5.0 and a, b value close to 1.00. The results indicate that the study area is a seismically highly active zone in the context of seismicity parameters. Finally, the compiled catalog, seismicity of the area and a probable deformation front are presented and are recommended for use in assessing seismic hazard analysis in Bangladesh.

Opis:
The author showed a fragment of the Iliad referred to as the Catalogue of Ships, also called Beotia (Bojotia). The name of this part comes from the Beots, whose troops, arriving at Troy, were listed in the Catalogue as the first. The list contains in-formations about the Greek armed forces, rulers and chiefs of the Greek peoples who took part in the naval expedition and the war against the Trojans. It also determines the number of ships brought by the Greeks to Troy. Eager to go to war, they put themselves in Beocia near the city of Aulis where, on the Strait of Eurypus, a large port was located. It can also be assumed that the Catalogue of Greek troops begins with the army of Beocia because the ports of this land were chosen as the place of concentration of troops for the expedition against Troy. A collection of works called the Trojan Cycle was also characterized, which includes 29 books and from which only small fragments (epitomai) and summaries in the so-called Chrestomatia have survived. Despite such poor literature, they are an important source in reproducing the content of the Trojan cycle. The passage showing the Achaean army at Troy, which is a list of Greek nobility, is often omitted in the editions of the Iliad. However, for those studying the art of war, it is an extremely important record of Europe’s past.

Opis:
This article looks back to the book The Library of Henry James published in 1987 by James’s most renowned and possessive biographer Leon Edel and the biographer’s friend, the independent scholar Adeline Tintner. While Edel outlines the history of James’s book collection in his house in Great Britain, Tintner offers examples of James’s use of the trope of library in his fiction. In between the two essays, the two authors included a catalog of James’s collection in Rye, indicating the location of all the items as of 1987. This article relies on the information provided in Edel and Tintner’s book, to which little has been added since, and offers a theoretical and historical approach to the topic of library in the context of Henry James’s biography and literary heritage. The article gives theoretical ramifications to the findings of Edel and Tintner by distinguishing between the three meanings of “library:” a physical space, a cataloged collection, and a literary trope. It also juxtaposes Edel’s biographical-historical essay and Tintner’s literary analysis with the autobiography of Henry James, in which the library emerges as a place partaking of several traditions: patriarchy, the process of initiation and maturation along with social and national self-fashioning.

Opis:
Contrary to what non-practitioners might expect, the systems of phonetic notation used by linguists are highly idiosyncratic. Not only do various linguistic subfields disagree on the specific symbols they use to denote the speech sounds of languages, but also in large databases of sound inventories considerable variation can be found. Inspired by recent efforts to link cross-linguistic data with help of reference catalogues (Glottolog, Concepticon) across different resources, we present initial efforts to link different phonetic notation systems to a catalogue of speech sounds. This is achieved with the help of a database accompanied by a software framework that uses a limited but easily extendable set of non-binary feature values to allow for quick and convenient registration of different transcription systems, while at the same time linking to additional datasets with restricted inventories. Linking different transcription systems enables us to conveniently translate between different phonetic transcription systems, while linking sounds to databases allows users quick access to various kinds of metadata, including feature values, statistics on phoneme inventories, and information on prosody and sound classes. In order to prove the feasibility of this enterprise, we supplement an initial version of our cross-linguistic database of phonetic transcription systems (CLTS), which currently registers five transcription systems and links to fifteen datasets, as well as a web application, which permits users to conveniently test the power of the automatic translation across transcription systems.

Opis:
Background: Global product identification standards and methods of product data exchange are known and widespread in the traditional market. However, it turns out that the e-commerce market needs data that have not already received much attention, for which no standards have been established in relation to their content. Furthermore, their current quality is often perceived below expectations. This paper discusses the issues of product name and highlights its problems in the context of e-commerce. Attention is also drawn to the source of liability for erroneous data. Methods: The research methodology is based on the analysis of data of products available on the Internet through product catalog services, online stores, and e-marketplaces, mainly in Poland, but addresses a global problem. Three research scenarios were chosen, comparing product names aggregated by GTIN, starting with e-commerce sites and ending with product catalogs working with manufacturers. In addition, a scenario of name-photo compatibility was included. Results: The results show that the product name, which in the real world is an integral part of the product as it appears on the label provided by the manufacturer, in the virtual world is an attribute consciously or not modified by the service provider. It turns out that discrepancies appear already at the source - at the manufacturer's level - publishing different names for the same product when working with data catalogs or publishing on product pages contributing to the so-called snowball effect. Conclusions: On the Internet, products do not have a fixed name that fully describes the product, which causes problems in uniquely identifying the same products in different data sources. This in turn reduces the quality of data aggregation, search, and reliability. This state of affairs is not solely the responsibility of e-commerce marketplace vendors, but of the manufacturers themselves, who do not take care to publicize the unambiguous and permanent name of their products in digital form. Moreover, there are no unambiguous global guidelines for the construction of a full product name. The lack of such a template encourages individual interpretations of how to describe a product.

Opis:
The aim of the article was a bibliological analysis of over thirty catalogs of artistic exhibitions published in the 19th century for the needs of public institutions related to art. It was important to clarify what catalogs of exhibitions are, paying attention to their promotional and functional functions. An attempt was made to answer the question about the purpose of issuing and the form (typology) of this type of ephemeral prints. The bibliological analysis of catalogs of exhibitions covered conversions, including the content, topography of publishing centers in the repertoire of which these types of prints appear, as well as the architecture of catalogs, i.e. external construction (format, paper, binding) and internal (fonts, composition of the main text and auxiliary materials, publishing frame). Significant research was conducted, paying attention to the recipient/reader of catalogs, as well as to the aesthetics (readability of the magazine and graphic techniques) of catalogs of artistic exhibitions.

This paper explores the application of convolutional neural networks in the field of amateur astronomy. The authors have employed the available astronomical datasets to develop a detector for identifying astronomical objects from the Messier catalog. A concept framework for creating such a detector for astronomical objects using artificial intelligence tools in the form of a detector based on convolutional neural networks is presented. Augmentation and pre-processing procedures have been used to extend the feature distribution in the training set. Examples confirming the effectiveness of the proposed detector of astronomical objects are presented.

Opis:
The Second Epistle of Peter is one of the least studied texts of the New Testament. It is usually compared with 1 Peter and/or Jude and indeed shows some similarities and some differences with these texts. But little attention is paid to the originality of 2 Peter both in its interpretation of texts from the Jewish tradition and in the application of intertextual strategies to elements of Greek philosophy. 2 Pet 1:5-7 is undoubtedly one of the most Hellenized passages of the epistle. Not only did the narrator use a hierarchical catalog of virtues popular in Greek literature, but also terms that are commonly associated with ethics, especially the stoic ethics (faith – πίστις; virtue – ἀρετή; knowledge – γνῶσις). This article aims to present the manner in which the narrator in 2 Pet 1:5-7 enters into dialogue with Greek ethical texts and how he transforms, innovates, and reinterprets these texts. In other words, what intertextual strategy he uses.
