Opis:
Decision making by those who play a key role in urban transformation can be supported by computer techniques. 3D-4D spatial simulations provide reliable information on the impact of spatial development changes on urban composition, microclimatic conditions and thermal comfort. Comprehensive approach to the subject of spatial changes during revitalization activities can contribute to guarantee high quality of life for people in urbanized areas, especially within public spaces. However, the current activities do not take into account microclimate issues, due to higher costs. As a result, an aim of this work was to evaluate microclimatic conditions and thermal sensation of people occupying two public spaces, i.e. Old Marketplace and Urban Square, which have been identified as priority areas in the process of city revitalization (Lodz). Results of studies may be presented to the local authorities to enrich analytical part of the urban development study, thus to enable appropriate decisions to be taken on land conversion. Conducted studies have shown that microclimate of areas is strongly dependent on spatial planning method. Greater diversity of meteorological parameters, i.e. temperature and relative humidity of air is observed in the Old Marketplace. In both areas there are microclimatic conditions described as uncomfortable. In order to guarantee appropriate thermal conditions for users, it is necessary to implement changes in their structure. The authors proposed potential planning strategies aimed to alleviate the discomfort related to human presence in both public spaces.

Opis:
Since January 2021, Havila Kystruten has been one of two companies sailing the coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes. This paper contains information on the new shipping company Havila Kystruten and their 2019 bid for a 10-year operational license to sail the coastal route. The government's tender documents for the new license specified that the vessels operating the route had to be low-emission vessels. This requirement was in line with the government's white paper on the reduction of emissions for commercial and fishing vessels sailing in Norwegian waters. Thus, companies bidding for the new license had to offer new ships with low emission characteristics or rebuild existing vessels to obtain the low emission requirements. Based on the offers, the government decided to split the operational license between two companies. One part was given to the company previously operating the route (Hurtigruten) and the other to the new company Havila Kystruten. While Hurtigruten would rebuild the engine systems on some of their existing vessels, Havila Kystruten would operate the route using new vessels with low emission signature. The design requirements for these vessels were given by Havila Kystruten to the ship designer, Havyard Design and Solutions (now HAVDesign). Some of the requirements are listed in section 4 below. The latter part of this paper investigates the manoeuvring performance of the new Havila Kystruten vessels, containing a summary of a Research Council of Norway funded innovation project on harsh weather ship handling during port operations. The Port of Trondheim was selected as a case study.

Opis:
The hydrodynamic interaction effects between two vessels that are significantly different in size operating in close proximity can adversely affect the safety and handling of these vessels. Many ship handling simulator designers implement Potential Flow (PF) solvers to calculate real-time interaction effects. However, these PF solvers struggle to accurately predict the complicated flow regimes that can occur, for example as the flow passes a wet transom hull or one with a drift angle. When it comes to predicting the interaction effects on a tug during a ship assist, it is essential to consider the rapid changes of the tug’s drift angle, as the hull acts against the inflow creating a complicated flow regime. This paper investigates the ability of the commercial PF solver, Futureship®, to predict the accurate interaction effects acting on tugs operating at a drift angle during ship handling operations through a case study. This includes a comparison against Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and captive model tests to examine the suitability of the PF method for such duties. Although the PF solver can be tuned to solve streamline bodies, it needs further improvement to deal with hulls at drift angles.
