Let A be an analytic family of sequences of sets of integers. We show that either A is dominated or it contains a continuum of almost disjoint sequences. From this we obtain a theorem by Shelah that a Suslin c.c.c. forcing adds a Cohen real if it adds an unbounded real.

A graph $G$ is locally-connected if the neighbourhood $ N_G (v) $ induces a connected subgraph for each vertex $v$ in $G$. For a graph $G$, the deficiency of $G$ is the number of vertices unsaturated by a maximum matching, denoted by $ \text{def} (G) $. In fact, the deficiency of a graph measures how far a maximum matching is from being perfect matching. Saito and Xiong have studied subgraphs, the absence of which forces a connected and locally-connected graph $G$ of sufficiently large order to satisfy $ \text{def} (G) \le 1 $. In this paper, we extend this result to the condition of $ \text{def} (G) \le k $, where k is a positive integer. Let $ \beta_0 = \ceil{ 1/2 (3+\sqrt{8k+17} ) } −1 $, we show that $ K_{1,2}, K_{1,3}, . . ., K_{1,β_0}, K_3 $ or \( K_2 \lor 2K_1 \) is the required forbidden subgraph. Furthermore, we obtain some similar results about 3-connected, locally-connected graphs. Key Words: deficiency, locally-connected graph, matching, forbidden subgraph.

The above question was raised by Teodor Przymusiński in May, 1983, in an unpublished manuscript of his. Later on, it was recognized by Takao Hoshina as a question that is of fundamental importance in the theory of rectangular normality. The present paper provides a complete affirmative solution. The technique developed for the purpose allows one to answer also another question of Przymusiński's.

We discuss the tunneling conductance in a ferromagnet-insulator-triplet superconductor junction. We consider the superconducting order parameters with spin triplet pairing having nodes. The nodal structure of the order parameter has been recently confirmed experimentally in Sr$\text{}_{2}$RuO$\text{}_{4}$. In particular, we study how a mid-gap structure of the tunnelling conductance depends on the phase difference of the pairing potential as well as on the orientation of the interface.

Opis:
A method of 11C-methionine synthesis using ‘bubbling’ method is presented. 11C-methionine was synthesized via 11C methylation from L-cysteine thiolactone (2 mg) in a 300 L solution of 2:1:1 (v/v) 1 M NaOH, ethanol, and water at ambient temperature (85°C, 5 min). The radiochemical purity of radiotracer was higher than 99% and enantiomeric purity (L-11C-methionine) was 91.6 ± 0.4%. The fi nal product met the requirements of European Pharmacopoeia monograph. The proposed 11C-methionine synthesis is a reliable tool for routine manufacturing in clinical applications and animal studies.

This paper presents the development of the structure of the integrated ON-LINE information system for collective use of renewable energy. Information about each installation including its location identification and capacity which is potentially available for external users is accessible via internet. Structure of each installation will include an intellectual control and registration module (ICRM) for electric energy available to external users. Where necessary any consumer can request reserve energy generated in near-by located free standing istallations for external use and make a decision to approach to any of those installation.

Opis:
The electron movement in thin semiconductor layer adjoining interface semiconductor-insulator in metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) microstructure with periodic field electrodes is considered. If a voltage of some sufficiently high frequency is applied to such a structure the effect of this high frequency field on a charge carriers in semiconductor is equivalent, in a sense, to the effect of some time-independent effective potential which is a sequence of deep "dynamic" quantum wells, where the charge carriers are localized. It is shown that the electron resonant tunneling may occur in this structure.

The expected effect of ultrasonic disintegration of excess sludge is particle dispergation and cell lysis i.e. the elimination of sludge microorganisms and the release of the contents of dead cells into the sludge liquid which results in an increase in chemical oxygen demand. Sonolysis also formed the basis for the intensification of volatile fatty acids production during the acid fermentation of excess sludge treated ultrasonically. In this study the investigations into the direct effects of excess sludge ultrasonic treatment revealed an increase in volatile fatty acid concentration directly (without fermentation process) after the ultrasonic treatment which is closely related to sonolysis.

We say that an infinite, zero dimensional, compact Hausdorff space K has property (*) if for every nonempty open subset U of K there exists an open and closed subset V of U which is homeomorphic to K. We show that if K is a compact Hausdorff space with property (*) and X is a Banach space which contains a subspace isomorphic to the space C(K) of all scalar (real or complex) continuous functions on K and Y is a closed linear subspace of X which does not contain any subspace isomorphic to the space C([0,1]), then the quotient space X/Y contains a subspace isomorphic to the space C(K).

In the paper, the results of analysis of the load curves for individual consumers assigned to the C-type standard profile in the G12 tariff zone and subzones are presented. On this basis, the C-profile study has been carried out for selected years. Also, models showing the influence of the air temperature on the consumed energy quotes for the distinctive consumer groups have been developed. Conclusions on the development and application of the standard profile for consumers which use the electrical energy for heating purposes (rooms and tap water) have been drawn.
W artykule autorzy przedstawili wyniki analizy krzywych obciążenia odbiorców indywidualnych, zaliczanych do profilu standardowego typu C w strefach i podstrefach taryfy G12. Pozwoliły one na przeprowadzenie analizy profilu C dla wybranych lat. Opracowano także modele charakteryzujące wpływ temperatury powietrza na wartości zużywanej energii dla wydzielonych grup odbiorców. Sformułowano wnioski dotyczące tworzenia oraz korzystania z profilu standardowego dla odbiorców wykorzystujących energię elektryczną do ogrzewania pomieszczeń oraz wody użytkowej.

Cytochrome c is an important electron transfer protein in the respiratory chain, shuttling electrons from cytochrome c reductase to cytochrome c oxidase. Extensive chemical modification studies indicate significant electrostatic interactions between these proteins and show that all structural and conformational changes of cytochrome c can influence the electron transport. In the present work we examine the effect of an anticancer ruthenium complex, trans-Indazolium (bisindazole) tetrachlororuthenate(III) (HInd[RuInd2Cl4]), on the conformation of cytochrome c, the state of the heme moiety, formation of the protein dimer and on the folding state of apocytochrome c. For this purpose, gel-filtration chromatography, absorption second derivative spectroscopy, circular dichroism (CD) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP(AES)) were used. The present data have revealed that binding of the potential anticancer drug HInd[RuInd2Cl4] complex to cytochrome c induces a conformation of the protein with less organized secondary and tertiary structure.

Searching for ways to improve the characterization of breast cancer we examined the relationship between the status of the FHIT gene transcript and amplification of c-myc and the c-erbB2 oncogene. Abnormal FHIT transcript was detected in 32 of 79 cancers examined. The presence of Fhit protein estimated by Western blots was evident only in cancers exhibiting a normal-sized FHIT transcript. This indicates that abnormal FHIT transcripts observed in our study did not encode any Fhit protein or the amount of such protein was very low. There was no association between the presence of aberrant FHIT gene transcript with age, tumor size, estrogen and progesterone receptor status, local metastases and histological grading. However, the abnormalities in FHIT gene transcripts were observed with different frequency depending on the histopathological type of the tumor. The aberrant FHIT transcript was detected in 60% of lobular cancers and only in 28% of ductal cancers. Analyzing the occurrence of c-myc and c-erbB2 amplification and the presence of aberrant FHIT gene transcripts we found that the aberrant FHIT transcript more frequently occurred in tissues with c-myc amplification. There was a significant (P <0.05) correlation between the occurrence of the aberrant FHIT gene transcript with accompanying c-myc amplification and positive lymph node status. However, in order to evaluate the predictive value of these findings in breast cancer, an extended clinical follow up will be necessary.

Opis:
12C/14C kinetic isotope effects on the hydrolytic cleavage of tyrosine to phenol and ammonium pyruvate catalyzed by Citrobacter freundii tyrosine phenol-lyase have been determined in positions 2, 3 and ring-1' of L-tyrosine. The competitive method with dual-label approach was applied with 3',5'-ring 3H as remote label. The results revealed the change of the effect on carbon atom in position 2 during the reaction course from the high normal values to low inverse values. On the other hand, the effect values on 3 and ring-1' position remained constant during the reaction course. The discussion of these results regarding the reaction mechanism is presented.
