Opis:
Comparison of the effect of lactic acid bacteria added to feed or water on growth performance, health status and gut microbiota of chickens broilers. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of two routs of potentially probiotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains: Lactobacillus plantarum K KKP 593/p and Lactobacillus rhamnosus KKP 825 administration (via feed or water) on growth performance, health status and the composition of gut microbiota of broiler chickens. A total of 375 one-day-old chicks Ross 308 were divided into three main groups. The experimental factor was the application of bacteria to feed (starter, grower and fi nisher) or drinking water. Control group did not receive bacteria. Addition of bacteria to water had a favorable effect on higher live body weight of chickens during the fi rst (starter) and the second (grower) period of rearing compared to the control group and the group receiving bacteria in feed. Total feed intake and feed conversion ratio was higher in the groups receiving bacteria than in the control group. Mortality among chickens receiving LAB was signifi - cantly reduced, wherein the lowest mortality was observed among chickens receiving bacteria in feed. Moreover, feeding chickens with potentially probiotic bacteria had an impact on inhibition the growth of Clostridium perfringens in the intestine and did not change biochemical and hematological parameters of blood and results of slaughter analysis compared to the control group. There were no clear and signifi cant differences in analyzed parameters of chickens depending on the rout of lactic acid bacteria administration.

Opis:
A total of 60 Russ 2011 two weeks old broiler chicks with an average weight of 215.33+4.55g were fed with diets compounded with sweet potato leaves (SPL) for 56 days. The diets consist of T1 (0% SPL), T2 (5% SPL), T3 (10% SPL) and T4 (15% SPL). The proximate composition of the SPL was determined in the laboratory. The birds were randomly allocated to four treatments using completely randomized design (CRD). Each treatment was subdivided into three replicates of five chicks each. At the end of the experiment, all data collected were subjected to one way analysis of variance and difference in means was separated using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test. The results showed no significant difference (p>0.05) in the average body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein efficiency ratio (PER). However, birds on T2 (32.77g) had the best daily body weight gain followed by T4 (30.36g), T3 (30.06g) and T1 (29.21g) while in terms of daily feed intake, T4 (98.20g) consumed most followed by T2 (98.17g) and T3 (96.59g) whereas, T1 (92.38g) consumed the least feed. The birds on T2 (3.00) demonstrated the best FCR followed by T1 (3.16), T3 (3.21) and T4 (3.23). Also T1 (1.59) showed the best PER closely followed by T1 (1.53), T3 (1.46) and T4 (1.43). There was, however, a significant difference (p<0.05) in Hb concentration when T2 (11.62g/dl) and T3 (12.48g/dl) were compared with T1 (10.34g/dl) and T4 (10.21g/dl). In the PCV, a statistical difference (p<0.05) also was observed between T1 (24.73%) and others (T2 (28.18%), T3 (28.97%)and T4 (27.14%)) while similar trend (p<0.05) was seen in the RBC count when T4 (9.72x106/ul) was compared with T1 (10.21 x106/ul), T2 (10.81x106/ul) and T3 (11.43x106/ul) and no significant difference (p>0.05) among all the treatments with respect to WBC (T1 (21.23x103/ul), T2 (19.18x103/ul), T3 (21.26x103/ul) and T4 (22.63x103/ul)). Although the haematological parameters fell within normal physiological ranges, there was a gradual increase in these values as the inclusion levels progressed till T3 (10% inclusion) and then a decrease. It is therefore recommended that inclusion of SPL up to 5% in the diet of broilers is good for enhanced body weight gain, FCR and PER and up to 10% for enhanced haematological parameters.

Opis:
Broiler type chickens were immunized intramuscularly with a DNA vaccine encoding hemagglutinin (HA) from H5N1 avian influenza virus. The chickens were divided into four groups: control group which was not immunized, a group which obtained only one dose, and two groups which were immunized twice, one group with a boost two weeks after the priming and the other four weeks. Blood samples were collected at several time points and the dynamics of the humoral response to the vaccine was studied. High level of anti-HA antibodies was detected only in the last two groups, that is in chickens immunized according to the prime-boost strategy, regardless of the schedule. An additional interesting observation of this study was detection of the cross-reactivity of an anti-H5 HA positive serum with H5N2 and H1N1 viruses, suggesting that the DNA vaccine tested can induce antibodies of a broad specificity.

Opis:
Infectious bronchitis (IB) is an important disease that causes severe economic loses in the poultry industry worldwide. Furthermore, the spread of new variants poses a challenge for diagnosis and control of the disease. This study investigated the situation of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), specifically the Israel variant-2 (IS var-2) also known as GI-23 genotype, in Turkey. Between 2014 and 2019, 214 flocks vaccinated against H120 from Marmara, Western Black Sea, and Inner Anatolia were examined, with 127 (59.3%) flocks testing positive for IBV, of which 92 (72.4%) were positive for IS var-2. Of the latter samples, 60 were randomly selected and subjected to full S1 gene sequencing. The analysis indicated that the field strain in Turkey was located on the same branch as the GI-23 genotype, which is one of the most frequently observed wild-type cluster found in the Middle East. The DNA similarities between the GI-23 isolates from 2014 to 2019 were 99%. In conclusion, the IS var-2 genotype has been circulating in broiler flocks in Turkey. It is recommended that establishing the vaccine strategy it should be considered the current circulating strains for the prevention and control of the disease among poultry.
