Opis:
Better processes produce lower costs, higher revenues, motivated employees, and happier customers. Logistics companies operating on very competitive market are continuously seeking opportunities to ensure the process reliability while improving their productivity. Due to increasing process complexity it is necessary to apply a systematic approach to designing, implementation, monitoring and improvement of processes in the organization. Such approach may be realized through Business Process Management (BPM) techniques and tools. An investment in BPM software, coupled with new approaches to project implementation, enables companies to introduce a sustainable business process improvement program. However,  the  implementation  of BPM is  not  easy because of process complexity and multiplication of interaction specific for each organization.    In this paper we propose some teaching frameworks, that can be used during the education process to enhance the practical skills in BPMN and in the application of process management in the field of logistics. Our solution is based on practical cases and BPM worldwide standards. It provides students with the opportunity to use the BPM suites software in complex environment and practice the techniques of modelling and analyzing processes. The presented framework may address many of requirements of learning environments for business process analysts. In the second part of the article we present also the analysis of students’ (attendants’ of BPM classes) opinions about gaining knowledge and skills on BPM. Performed research indicate that young people were keen on business process modeling classes organized in a form of problem-based laboratories and they would like to use learned BPM methods and tools in their future education or work.

Opis:
This paper critically assesses Business Process Management (BPM) education in Poland and provides evidence-based recommendations for improvement. Through a survey of 44 BPM educators, the study evaluates BPM lifecycle coverage, IT tool utilization, and incorporation of the Six Core Elements of BPM. The findings reveal a focus on process modeling and analysis, identifying gaps in the way the entire BPM lifecycle is addressed. Despite the utilization of various IT tools, there is a notable absence of coverage for emerging topics such as process mining, AI, and Robotic Process Automation. Only 12% of courses cover all Six Core Elements of BPM, and there is a critical gap in student education, which is the underrepresentation of the People and Culture elements. The paper concludes with a manifesto for greater alignment between academic education and industry needs through comprehensive BPM curricula, dedicated software tools, and more robust coverage of the strategic and governance aspects of BPM. This will bridge the gap between academic education and real-world BPM applications, so that graduates can be better prepared for the challenges of the modern business landscape, which can enhance the quality and effectiveness of BPM education, thereby aligning it with the evolving demands of the business environment and contributing to the growth and competitiveness of organizations in Poland.

Purpose: The main objective of the article is to present the concept of assessing the level of an organization’s utilization of its potential for transformation towards process orientation, using a practical implementation example. Design/methodology/approach: The structure of the research procedure was based on the theoretical assumptions regarding the methodological procedures involving development of a model of process maturity assessment. Such research methods as bibliometric analysis, systematic literature review, participant observation, opinion survey and semi-structured interview were used to achieve the research objectives formulated. Findings: The value of the article entails the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to determine an organization’s propensity for transition towards higher levels of process maturity. This effect has been achieved using a method of multi-hierarchical process maturity assessment. It has been determined that the organization under examination is at the second level of process maturity, although many of the elements diagnosed show third-level process maturity potential. An authorial research method has been additionally verified, as well as the examined organization’s real and utilized potential has been determined, which constitute the basis for assessing the level of process maturity. Research limitations/implications: inability to fully objectify the research results obtained. Practical implications: The article shows the basis and the method for identifying the examined company’s real and utilized potential of process maturity as well as for determining the level of process maturity, based on which the company’s strategy towards a higher level of process maturity can be formulated. Originality/value: The unique nature of this article lies in the proposed method of multi-hierarchical assessment of an organization’s process maturity. In order to deepen the interpretation of the results obtained from a quantitative study, qualitative research was used. This allows development of a strategy for achievement of higher levels of maturity.

In this article the magnetic memory model with nano-meter size made from iron cells was proposed. For a purpose of determining the model specifications, the magnetic probes group with different geometrical parameters were examined using numeric simulations for the two different time duration of transitions among quasi-stable magnetic distributions found in the system, derived from the energy minimums. The geometrical parameters range was found, for which the 16 quasi–stable energetic states exist for the each probe. Having considered these results the 4 bits magnetic cells systems can be designed whose state is changed by spin-polarized current. Time dependent current densities and the current electron spin polarization directions were determined for all cases of transitions among quasi-stable states, for discovered set of 4 bits cells with different geometrical parameters. The 16-states cells, with the least geometrical area, achieved the 300 times bigger writing density in comparison to actual semiconductor solutions with the largest writing densities. The transitions among quasi-stable states of cells were examined for the time durations 10⁵ times shorter than that for up to date solutions.

Opis:
EPC models are currently among the leading standard business process modelling solutions. As long as the rules for creating flat EPC models are explicit and raise no significant doubts, when it comes to linking models of different types, the literature of the subject delivers diversified solutions. Four such alternative concepts that can be applied in this respect have been identified and described in this article. They have been used to link EPC models for four cases proposed. These cases differ as to the degree of complexity, and they represent different kinds of potential links between processes being modelled. Using the concepts in question with reference to the cases defined has made it possible to identify situations in which it is impossible to link models, or when it raises certain doubts. What has also been proposed is that one of the concepts identified in the paper can be modified in such a manner that using it to link EPC models does not pose any problem in any of the cases discussed.

Opis:
Executable business processes that formally describe company activities are well placed in the SOA environment, as they allow for the declarative organization of high-level system logic. However, to fully benefit from that element of abstraction, appropriate business process monitoring systems are required for both technical and non-technical users. Unfortunately, current solutions remain unsatisfactory. This paper discusses the problem of business process monitoring in the context of the service orientation paradigm, in order to propose an architectural solution and provide implementation of a system for business process monitoring that alleviate the shortcomings of the existing solutions. Various platforms have been investigated to obtain a broader view of the monitoring problem and to gather functional and non-functional requirements. These requirements constitute input for further analysis and system design. The monitoring software is then implemented and evaluated according to the specified criteria. An extensible business process monitoring system was designed and built on top of OSGiMM – a dynamic, event-driven, configurable communications layer that provides real-time monitoring capabilities for various types of resources. The system was tested against the stated functional requirements, and its implementation provides a starting point for further work. It has been concluded that providing a uniform business process monitoring solution that satisfies a wide range of users and business process platform vendors is a difficult endeavor. It is furthermore reasoned that only an extensible, open source monitoring platform based on a scalable communication core has a chance to address all current and future requirements.

As customers demand easier access to individualized products and services, companies now face an ongoing problem of how to deliver flexible and innovative solutions while maintaining efficiency and competitiveness. In this environment, the only sustainable form of competitive advantage rests in the ability to learn faster than the competition (de Geus, 1988). The article returns to the somewhat forgotten concept of the learning organization and explores how its principles can be applied with the use of dynamic business process management (dynamic BPM). Enabling in this concept individual or team-based limited experimentation and providing conditions for learning though experience in the course of performing business processes allows for the constant creation of practical knowledge. This article provides examples of how dynamic BPM facilitates the constant creation and verification of practical knowledge, with the aim of improving and adapting processes to maintain the competitive advantage of the organization.
