Opis:
Purpose: There have been numerous studies analyzing the role of psychic (and cultural) distance in the internationalization process focused on relationships between distance and market selection, entry mode, or subsidiary performance. Still, cumulative findings of this body of research are mixed and inconclusive. Thus, this review aims for a rigorous presentation of past research on psychic distance, with particular focus on the aspects of international business operations affected by psychic distance in the light of empirical studies.Methodology: This review encompasses 55 papers, both empirical and conceptual, published between 1990–2015 in top IB, international marketing, and management journals. In general, the papers under review were published in 27 journals, with the vast majority of them being published in 2005 or later. The vast majority of reviewed papers are of empirical character (47 papers), while eight are conceptual.Findings: Since 2005, the number of articles published in top academic journals that featured the term “psychic distance” in the title has quadrupled. Common research topics include not only the core domain of internationalization process and performance, but also focus on understanding the concept of psychic distance, analyzing its antecedents and coping modes. Other studies have addressed the performance implications of psychic distance in conjunction with variables like strategy adaptation to foreign markets.Research limitations/implications: While the present review is limited in the number of papers taken into account, it does provide an initial overview of the structure of the field. However, the comparability of findings of different studies is limited by factors such as firm samples or presence of multicultural nations. In terms of directions for further research, promising topics include the relationship between perceived and ‘real’ distances or the effectiveness of different coping modes.Originality/value: The present paper identifies key research streams related to psychic distance and its role for international business. Based on an analysis of their content, it outlines several avenues for further investigation.

Opis:
Social entrepreneurship3, as a field of research, has gained enormous interest of academics in management and entrepreneurship literature for almost 30 years now. Also, scholars in other intellectual domains like economics, finance, marketing, political science, sociology and few others, have found it fascinating. As a term, it is common in public discourses and has found interest among policy makers, corporations, media, different groups of practitioners and professionals. As a phenomenon it is not new, although the SE term has been only recently coined (Banks, 1972; Drucker, 1979). For far more than two centuries great individuals and groups have tried to tackle the societal challenges, using economic means, such as the Rochdale Pioneers who inspired cooperative ideals, and Florence Nightingale – an English nurse and social activist, who changed the patient care landscape (Nicholls, 2006). Many of the ventures and actions of social initiatives can be traced to the earlier, medieval or even ancient times. Today, social initiatives and social enterprise have emerged in particular countries and regions as a result of their historical institutional trajectories, and “social enterprise landscape ZOO” (Young & Brewer, 2016) has become very heterogeneous. The interest of management and entrepreneurship research into the phenomenon has resulted in an unprecedented increase in scholarly output. The historical analysis of SE research (Moss, Lumpkin & Short, 2017) published in key journals and databases shows an increase from one paper to 45 papers published per year between 1990 and 2010. SE centers established in universities like Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge have designed degree programmes, dedicated textbooks, and separate SE conferences, special journals like Social Enterprise Journal, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship and many more have been introduced for educational and publication purposes. SE has become popular as a response to the inabilities of governments and business to solve pressing social problems, including poverty, social exclusion, and environmental issues. All of the above are manifested in the diversity of different SE initiatives. Thus, we express our interest to explain and predict SE and social enterprise as phenomena, to identify related antecedents and outcomes, but also to look into the box of SE processes. This special issue attempts to respond to this interest. Diverse methodological approaches including descriptive, explanatory or exploratory ones are included in the papers in this issue. SE phenomenon is studied on an individual, organizational, and even a macro level. Different data is employed: current or archival data, primary or secondary, referring to different country settings such as Taiwan, Poland, Italy and England. Through the inclusion of such diverse perspectives and context, this issue works as a holistic approach to the phenomenon under analysis. In the following sections of this paper, we first provide a succinct overview of SE as a phenomenon and research field. We summarize the definitional debate and point to valuable theoretical frameworks for studying SE. Next, we introduce individual authors’ contributions to the issue and, finally, we propose further suggestions for future research.

Opis:
The objective of this paper is to present a conceptual model of antecedents of store brand (SB) equity (SBBE) that aims to identify the effects of SB advertising spend, attitudes toward SB advertisements, SB price promotions, and SB non-price promotions on the metrics of SBBE (i.e. SB awareness, SB associations, SB perceived quality, and SB loyalty), overall and with regard to retail format differences across three retail formats. For this purpose an extensive literature review is introduced. This paper provides key directions to brand managers regarding store brand assortment. There is emphasized that the expected outcomes of this research project are not only of great importance to build the academic literature on SBs, but are also of immense value to practitioners and SB managers.

Opis:
Purpose: As organizations look to the future, many are planning a hybrid working model where employees split their working time between in-office and remote work. The shift to a hybrid workplace is a significant change. While requiring vision, budgets, and talents to produce positive results, every change is particularly dependent on the presence of supportive leaders who build a safe psychological environment to motivate people and ensure their involvement and commitment. The aim of this paper is to review recent empirical studies on key antecedents of employee responses to organizational change through which leaders shape a supportive environment for change. Design/methodology/approach: The review includes empirical studies from different disciplines, published between 2015 and 2021. Findings: The analysis shows that trust in leaders is an important enabler of organizational change. Perceived justice, communication, and psychological empowerment also feature prominently in the recent studies, and, together with trust, play an important role between leadership and positive employee responses toward change. Practical implications: Managers can considerably improve the success rate of their change initiatives by having insight into what key factors have impact on employees’ attitudes toward organizational change. They can build on them to create and develop an environment that motivates individuals and ensures their involvement and commitment to change. Originality/value: This article provides insights into the key factors influencing employee attitudes toward organizational change, which have recently attracted the attention of the scientific community across different disciplines. It also includes a research agenda proposal highlighting opportunities for future studies on leadership in organizational change.

Opis:
The current study adds to the existing literature of understanding the employee performance since it is the first study to include the variables. Therefore, this study aims to develop more understanding job satisfaction, training and leadership connection. The findings of this analysis concerning the employees’ performance and leadership relationship found to be in contrast with the previous research. This study has been employed the structural equation modelling (SEM) as it is a multivariate technique for the examination of structural relations. For researcher’s SEM is most appropriate technique as in an analysis multiple interrelated association can be assessed at the same time. The scale has been adopted from the literature. In this study the response rate was 60% which is greater than the threshold response rate. The findings highlight that the employees’ job performance is linked with their mental well-being which employees achieve through different characteristics of their job, and thus, the satisfied employees lead to more buyers which increase their achievements. It is perceived that general research on job satisfaction level is an interesting topic of research for the scholars.
