The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is the method that supports people’s decisions in the multi-criteria decision making problems. In this method the decision process is based on pairwise comparing of every two possible alternatives. The decision maker (DM) compares alternatives by choosing an appropriate “linguistic phrase” or a number from a proper set. This set of “linguistic phrases” and/or the numbers connected with them are referred to as the priority scale. There are several different scales that are described in literature and used in AHP practice. In dependence of the scale chosen by the DM, the final decisions might differ. In the AHP it is assumed that DMs make mistakes over comparing pairs of alternatives, but it was also observed that the assumed scale increases these errors as well. In our paper, we investigate the impact of the adopted scale to the number and magnitude of errors in the final decision. Our results show that the choice of the scale has a big impact on the final decision, so it is crucial part of AHP. It turns out that scales with bigger resource of options result in better evaluations of priority vectors.

Opis:
Decision-making in the field of information systems has become more complex due to larger number of alternatives, multiple and sometimes conflicting goals, and an increasingly uncertain environment. Software systems play unique roles in the translation of corporate strategic and tactical plans into actions. We present the results of a study designed to develop and evaluate an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) model to support decision making in the selection of appropriate software system to meet organizational needs. Our results show the viability of the AHP methodology in software system/project selection, and points to the importance of functionality (35.26%), quality (22.00%) and usability (19.34%) criteria in the overall decision process. Cost and vendor service did not seem to exert significant weight in the decision matrix.

In this study, a methodology was developed for transport plan selection of intercity trains in railway network using the method of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). For studying the transport plan, the following indicators have been chosen: the transport satisfaction, average number of train stops, average distance travelled, average speed, reliability, availability of service with direct transport and transport capacity. The methodology includes determination of variant schemes of transportation; determination of the number of trains by criterion of minimum direct operating costs for transportation of each variant scheme using linear optimization model; application of AHP method to define the weights of criteria and ranking the variants schemes; and selection of an optimal transport plan according to the criterion of a minimum ratio of normalized direct operating costs to the AHP score. The methodology was experimented in Bulgarian railway network.

This study presents an integration of fuzzy sets theory with analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to model landslide hazard. The approach involves developing expert knowledge from existing landslide datascts which arc used for standardizing digital terrain attributes, a pairwise comparison method for the elicitation of attribute weights, and their subsequent aggregation through weighted linear combination (WLC) and ordered weighted average fOWA) function to generate landslide hazard maps. The approach enhances tlic methodology for modeling landslide hazard in roaded and roadless areas through the derivation of probabilistic maps. The maps can be used as a decision support tool in forest management and planning. A case study from the Clearwater National Forest in central Idaho, USA, illustrates the application of the approach in a practical setting.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is perhaps the most popular approach to decision-making problems of prioritization. The basis of the AHP is pairwise comparison, which is used to compare alternatives. This comparisons are provided by decision makers usually as linguistic expressions which are next converted to numbers from a fixed set called a scale. The influence of the scale on the quality of prioritization was investigated in a number of papers. One of the most important types of judgment scale is the Geometric Scale. Its elements depend on specific parameters. In this paper, the impact of the choice of this scale’s parameters on errors in priority vectors and on values of the inconsistency indices is studied via Monte Carlo simulations.

Opis:
Garment fit on a body model is an important factor for designing comfortable, functional and well fitting garments. Nowadays the virtual prototyping of garments provides high potential for design, product development and marketing processes. Previous examinations of garment fit to the body in a real and virtual environment were merely focused on expert evaluation by way of a descriptive comparison of proper and improper areas for fitting. Therefore the problem area in our research was to examine the fit of a skirt on a live model and on virtual models such as parametric and scanned body models in order to propose which virtual human body is the most suitable where garment fit is concerned. The paper also discusses the fit of a skirt on an individual part of the human body with respect to predefined areas. A numerical study with a questionnaire survey database was conducted with the aim of selecting the best model to assess the fit of a skirt to the human body, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to evaluate the questionnaire results. The results obtained confirm that the design is most important factor when evaluating a skirt’s fit to the body. Furthermore results confirmed that the hips and abdomen areas were the most important for evaluators when assessing as kirt’s fit to the body.
Dopasowanie ubrania do modelu ciała jest ważnym czynnikiem przy projektowaniu komfortowej, funkcjonalnej i dobrze dopasowanej odzieży. Tworzenie wirtualnych prototypów ubrań otwiera nowe możliwości w projektowaniu, przygotowaniu i wprowadzaniu produktu na rynek. Poprzednie badania dopasowania odzieży do ciała w realnym i wirtualnym środowisku koncentrowały się jedynie na ocenie i porównaniu obszarów prawidłowego i nieprawidłowego dopasowania. W celu uzyskania najbardziej odpowiedniego z punktu widzenia dopasowania odzieży wirtualnego modelu ciała ludzkiego badano i porównywano dopasowanie spódnicy na żywej modelce oraz na wirtualnych modelach. Ponadto omówiono dopasowanie spódnicy do poszczególnych partii ludzkiego ciała w stosunku do wcześniej określonych obszarów. W celu wybrania najlepszego modelu do oceny dopasowania spódnicy do ciała ludzkiego przeprowadzono badania matematyczne z użyciem danych ankietowych ocenionych analitycznym procesem hierarchicznym. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdzają, że projekt jest najważniejszym czynnikiem przy ocenie dopasowania spódnicy do ciała. Ponadto wyniki potwierdziły, że biodra i brzuch są najważniejszymi obszarami dopasowania spódnicy do ciała.

The purpose of this paper is to explore various challenges a real estate development company may face during post-merger integration. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) has been used to prioritize the barriers linked to mergers in the real estate companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). An AHP model was developed with 5 criteria and 29 sub-criteria based on the previous literature. Data were collected through interviews of 6 experts who were involved in the merger process of 2 major real estate development companies in the UAE. The data collected were interpreted and a priority vector was assigned to each criterion and sub-criterion. The findings reveal that strategy, business plan and budget followed by the training are the key challenges that is encountered during the post-merger in the UAE based real estate companies. Results are derived from a limited amount of empirical data only in one country; therefore, these cannot be generalized. This study provides an important technique for analyzing the barriers linked to mergers in real estate development companies which are considered as one of the economic engine of the UAE.
Celem artykułu jest zbadanie różnych wyzwań, przed jakimi staje firma deweloperska podczas integracji po fuzji. Proces hierarchii analitycznej (AHP) został wykorzystany do ustalenia priorytetów barier związanych z fuzjami w spółkach nieruchomości w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich (ZEA). W oparciu o przegląd literatury, opracowano model AHP z 5 kryteriami i 29 podkryteriami. Dane zebrano w wywiadach z 6 ekspertami, którzy byli zaangażowani w proces fuzji dwóch dużych firm deweloperskich w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich. Zebrane dane zostały zinterpretowane i do każdego kryterium i podkryterium został przypisany wektor priorytetowy. Badania wskazują, że strategia, biznes plan i budżet, po których następuje szkolenie, są kluczowymi wyzwaniami, które napotykają podczas fuzji w spółkach deweloperskich w Zjednoczonych Emiratach Arabskich. Wyniki pochodzą z ograniczonej ilości danych empirycznych z jednego kraju dlatego nie można ich uogólnić. Badanie to stanowi ważną technikę analizy barier związanych z fuzjami w firmach deweloperskich, które są uważane za jeden z ekonomicznych motorów ZEA.

Location analysis for a textile manufacturing facility is a strategic decision due to its longterm effects on profitability, accessibility, and sustainability. Thus an analysis should be made using a comprehensive approach. The facility location selection problem can be represented with a multi-criteria structure. This study considered locating a new manufacturing facility and accepted seven decision criteria as decision parameters. Istanbul was the study area, and seven candidate locations were considered to start a new manufacturing facility. During the evaluation process, Geographic Information Systems and the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process were combined to order the preference levels of candidate areas. A novel methodology for the textile industry is proposed to integrate experts’ thoughts and geographic information.
Analiza lokalizacji nowego przedsiębiorstwa produkującego tekstylia jest decyzją strategiczną ze względu na długotrwałe efekty tej decyzji, związane z opłacalnością produkcji, dostosowaniem i zrównoważonym rozwojem. Dlatego analiza powinna być przeprowadzona z zastosowaniem wielu czynników. Problem wyboru lokalizacji może być realizowany przy zastosowaniu struktury multi-kryterialnej. Przeprowadzona analiza uwzględniła zastosowanie siedmiu kryteriów decyzji, przy przeprowadzeniu wykorzystano system informacji geograficznej i analityczny proces hierarchiczny oparty o funkcje zbiorów rozmytych. Wybrano rejon Stambułu do przeprowadzenia rozpatrywanej analizy.

Sustainable development and natural disasters are closely interlinked. The impact of catastrophic events on the environment is still very difficult to determine, and such losses are generally underestimated. Development is never neutral in relation to catastrophes: it creates, enhances or reduces the risk of their occurrence. Selection of appropriate methods and mathematical models for risk assessment in relation to the specific features and characteristics of the considered system and available information and resources, is a key parameter of reliability assessment. Numerous authors applied AHP methods with flood risk assessment, but very limited literature is avaliable on the use of fuzzy multiobjective analysis in flood studies. In the recent years, the fuzzy approach for flood risk assessments has gained greater importance. In this paper, we present the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) model for flood risk assessments. Two flood hazard indexes were defined, one based on natural factors and one based on anthropogenic factors. FAHP is applied to data sets to illustrate a model.
Zrównoważony rozwój i katastrofy naturalne są ściśle ze sobą powiązane. Wpływ wydarzeń o charakterze katastroficznym na środowisko jest nadal trudny do określenia i takie straty są generalnie niedoszacowane. Rozwój nigdy nie jest neutralny w stosunku do katastrof: tworzy on, zwiększa lub redukuje ryzyko ich wystąpienia. Wybór właściwych metod i modeli matematycznych do oceny ryzyka w stosunku do określonych cech i funkcji danego systemu, a także dostępnych informacji i zasobów jest kluczowym parametrem w ocenie wiarygodności. Wielu autorów stosowało metody AHP przy ocenie ryzyka powodzi, ale niewiele publikacji dotyczy zastosowania rozmytej analizy wieloobiektowej w badaniach nad powodziami. W ostatnich latach, rozmyte podejście oceny ryzyka powodzi zyskało na znaczeniu. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiamy model rozmytego analitycznego procesu hierarchicznego (ang. FAHP) do oceny ryzyka powodzi. Zdefiniowano dwa wskaźniki zagrożenia powodzią, jeden oparty na czynnikach naturalnych i jeden na czynnikach antropogenicznych. FAHP został zastosowany w celu zilustrowania modelu.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) allows to create a final ranking for a discrete set of decision variants on the basis of an earlier pairwise comparison of all the criteria and all the decision variants within each criterion. The properties of the obtained ranking depend on the quality of pairwise comparisons; this quality can be evaluated on the basis of consistency measured by means of certain measures. The paper discusses a mathematical model which is the foundation of the AHP and a starting point for a new method which allows to significantly reduce – and even eliminate – the inconsistency of pairwise comparisons measured by the consistency index. The proposed method allows to reduce the consistency index well below the threshold of 0.1.

A new fuzzy measure is presented in this paper. Using the assumption that the decision maker is able to provide the pairwise additivity degree between attributes, our method uses Zimmerman’s approach to solve the fuzzy multiobjective problem: a simple problem for computing fuzzy density is derived. Having done that, we use this new fuzzy measure to implement an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) with dependent attributes using the Choquet integral. Our identification procedure for fuzzy density is much easier because it reduces the resolution complexity using a linear programming problem rather than the complicated power form used traditionally.

A system exists which meets a prescription of the efficacious multiple criteria decision making support methodology. It is called the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The consistency control of human pairwise judgments about their preferences towards alternative choices appears to be the crucial issue in this concept. This research examines the efficiency of a recently proposed consistency index grounded on the redefined idea of triads inconsistency within Pairwise Comparison Matrices. The quality of the recently introduced proposal is studied and compared to other ideas with application of Monte Carlo simulations coded and run in Wolfram Mathematica 8.0.

In this paper analytic hierarchy process (AHP), a well-known approach for handling multi-criteria decision making problems, is discussed. It is based on pairwise comparisons. The methods for deriving the priority vectors from comparison matrices are examined. The existing methods for aggregating the individual comparison matrices into a group comparison matrix are revised. A method for aggregation, called WGMDEA, is proposed for application in the case study. Because exact (crisp) values cannot always express the subjectivity and the lack of information on the part of a decision maker, the interval judgments are more suitable in such cases. Two main methodological problems emerge when dealing with interval comparison matrices in group AHP: a) to aggregate individual crisp preferences into the joint interval matrix, b) to calculate the weights from the joint interval comparison matrix. In the paper we first discuss the already proposed approaches to the aggregation of individual matrices, and the derivation of weights from interval comparison matrices, pertained to AHP group decision making methodology. Then, a new method, ADEXTREME, for generating the interval group judgments from individual judgments is proposed. A numerical example based on Rural Development Program of the Republic of Slovenia in 2007-2013 is presented to illustrate the new methodology for deriving the weights from interval comparison matrices. The results obtained by WGMDEA, MEDINT and ADEXTREME methods are compared.

Opis:
The paper presents an overview of methods used in solving Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) problems in the case of incomplete information about preferences among criteria, which are defined by explicit attributes of the problems. The paper presents the following methods: dominance, maxmin, maxmax, based on game theory, ELECTRE IV and parametric approach associated with Linear Partial Information and AHP. The presented methods focus on the problem of evaluation of investment projects in a hard coal mine.

Opis:
This study aims to analyse the sensitivity in decision-making which results in the selection of the appropriate underground metal mining method using the fuzzy-analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) model. The proposed model considers sixteen criteria for the selection of the most appropriate mining method out of the seven. The model consists of three-layer viz. the first layer represents the criteria (factors which influence the mining method), the second layer represents the sub-criteria (categorisation of the factors) and the third layer represents the alternatives (mining methods). The priority of the different mining methods was determined based on global weights. The global weights of seven mining method were determined using a different fuzzification factor under different decision-making attitudes (optimistic, pessimistic and unbiased). The sensitivity of the decision-making results was analysed in order to understand the robustness of the model.
