Road violence is a major problem that does not yet have a universally accepted definition. It is important to consider violence in the context of the road in order to prevent it. Road criminology focuses on the study and prevention of trafic- related deviations and problems generated aeftr and accident. There is a lack of general knowledge about the reality of crime in the road environment; the society is not aware that certain behaviours of harassment and aggression cause risky situations and fatal results. It is essential to address the problem, defining and delimiting it to combat it. Education is once again essential to prevent crime and to put an end to social permissiveness around unacceptable behaviour related to road safety.

Opis:
Introduction and objective. Expansion into new areas and the great epidemiological significance of the D. reticulatus tick in Europe prompts investigations of its ethology. Therefore, the locomotor activity of D. reticulatus adult stages in an optimal habitat during the spring and autumn activity periods was analysed. Materials and method. Marked D. reticulatus adults were placed at the central point of each experimental plot. At regular time intervals, specimens attached to the cloth used in the flagging method were collected, and the distance covered by the ticks was measured. In each collection round, the temperature and humidity level in the habitat was also measured. Results. Within 7 weeks, adult D. reticulatus ticks can cover an average distance of 60.71±44 cm. The locomotor activity of adult stages is greater during the spring than the autumn activity period. Questing, females cover a greater distance (66.35±100 cm) than male ticks (54.85±45 cm). Adult stages are characterised by greater aggressiveness 24 hours after being released, i.e. 30% of females and 19% of males attempt to attach to host skin. The locomotor activity in adult ticks depends on the humidity of the habitat (Z=-1.198; p=0.050). The temperature does not affect tick walking. Conclusions. Given the low rates of horizontal locomotion of adult D. reticulatus ticks, the prevalence of the species in nature is determined by the presence of their hosts and humidity conditions ensuring their further development and survival. The dependence of D. reticulatus locomotor activity and aggressiveness on the humidity level implies an increased risk of host attacks in locations and periods that offer favourable humidity conditions for this species.

Opis:
The maintenance of Phytophthora infestans cultures isolates from blighted potato, frozen in liquid nitrogen, was studied in two experiments. The effects of deep freezing and acclimatization pre-treatment at different temperatures on culture survival and stability of virulence and aggressiveness were evaluated. The best survival of cultures maintained for three months in liquid nitrogen was expressed, when cultures were acclimatized before freezing at 7˚C. The survival of frozen cultures was significantly worse in comparison with control combinations stored on rye-agar and rye-agar under paraffin oil for short time (in experiment I – 40 days, in experiment II – three months). The virulence spectrum of frozen cultures after thawing was more narrow than that one observed before culture freezing. However this virulence spectrum did not differ significantly from virulence range of control cultures. The level of aggressiveness of culture stored in liquid nitrogen did not differ significantly from control cultures as well. The virulence spectrum and aggressiveness level of cultures frozen in liquid nitrogen were significantly higher after two passages of thawed cultures on potato tissues than after single passage.

For breeding purposes, use of reliable Fusarium isolates and inoculation techniques for assessment of host  resistance are key components for developing strategies to mitigate the risks caused by this pathogen in maize.  Results of evaluating aggressiveness of Fusarium accessions obtained in 2008 from five locations from South  Romania, under both seedling and field artificial inoculation in 2009, in terms of coleoptile length (% of control), visual score (1-9) and fumonisin content (FUM, ppm), are reported.High aggressive potential was found in all populations regardless of their geographic origin. Mean percentage values of coleoptile length across three maize hybrids inoculated with 30 Fusarium verticillioidesisolates collected in 2008 (six/per location) and two types of culture media, ranged in seedling stage from 15.8  (Braila) to 19.7 (Valul lui Traian). A large variability in accumulation of FUM in grains corresponding to 26  maize genotype x Fusarium isolate combinations averaged over two culture media, was found in 2009 inoculated experiment. A significant close negative correlation between visual score andFUM content was found  when 61 maize genotypes have been inoculated with FUN 640-1-2/2006 isolate in 2008.

This article concerns the issue of the long-term operation of hydromechanical fittings during their contact with aggressive water. The aim of this analysis was to investigate the significance of the quality of water during the operation of wind power farms and geothermal power stations, especially hydromechanical fittings during long-term operation at the base of the Baltic Sea and geothermal power stations. This article presents the properties of water and their impact on hydromechanical equipment during long-term operation in marine and geothermal waters. The paper includes the analysis and evaluation of their impact. Additionally, the article describes important problems with the operation of wind power farms and geothermal power stations. The results of periodical analyses of southern Baltic marine water and thermal groundwater from “Geotermia Podhalańska” were evaluated and used as the basis for future research. Every negative parameter of water, known as its aggressiveness, adversely affects the basic materials of wind masts and pipelines, as well as the hydromechanical equipment in contact with marine and thermal water. The presented results show the necessity of controlling the water quality prior to the operation of geothermal water and building wind power masts in coastal marine water. Attention was paid to corrosion during contact with aggressive water with unprotected materials. This issue is rarely seen in the literature but is very important.

Pathogenicity and aggressiveness vs. wheat of 30 new Fusarium accessions, primarily F. graminearum, obtained  from random naturally infected grain samples of bread wheat, durum wheat and triticale collected across Romania,  phenotypically and by molecular tools has been investigated. A large variation of this trait, expressed as reduction of  coleoptiles length (% of control), in seedling stage, on average over three varieties, ranging from 2.1 to 30.9 % was  registered. Point field inoculations at anthesis of 90 Fusarium isolate x wheat varieties combinations, revealed also  the variability of several components of aggressiveness: severity (14.4-64.8%), AUDPC (104.9-527.1), and FDK 8.1-43.7%, respectively.Molecular techniques allowed identification of Fusarium species and the analysis of polymorphism within fungal  isolates. Moreover, the presence of TRI 5 gene involved in DON biosynthesis was detected in the majority of isolates.Similarity between records obtained in seedling and adult stage for the most aggressive of Fusarium isolates,  suggests that phenotypic selection in conjunction with molecular tools could be a reliable method to select the appropriate pathogen strains for breeding of resistance.

Phytophthora infestans behaves in natural and agricultural ecosystems as a biotrophic pathogen, although it can be cultured on artificial media. Pathogenicity and host adaptation are therefore essential traits to understand its biology and to come up with durable, efficient management of late blight. The present review focuses on adaptation to host species and host cultivars, and to both qualitative and quantitative types of resistance. It also discusses some of the patterns and population mechanisms involved in this adaptation, such as selection, genetic drift and migration. This highlights the need for an in-depth analysis of each local situation to accurately describe and understand the mechanisms responsible for observed population displacements.

The procedure of evaluation is based on mathematical simulation model of the late blight (LB) development in combination with laboratory testing of detached leaflets artificially inoculated with Phytophthora infestans. An incubation period, amount and sizes of lesions and sporulation capacity are estimated. Each couple “tested Phytophthora isolate and tested potato cultivar” is compared with a standard couple “Phytophthora isolate N161 and standard cultivar”. A simulator on the base of these data calculates area under the curve for LB development and yield loss due to LB for a situation when a yield loss of a standard cultivar infected with a standard isolate is equal 35%. Comparison of a new rapid laboratory method and field methods showed satisfactory correlation. Resistance to late blight was evaluated for 47 potato cultivars with the new method. It was also shown that some variations in foliar aggressiveness existed among P. infestans populations from different regions. Supported by ISTC grant #1640.

The aim of the research was to determine the rate of the damage of xylophagous insects for silver birch (Betula pendula Roth.) stands in the Left Bank Forest-steppe of Ukraine. Evaluation of physiological harmfulness considered a health condition of inhabited trees, features of maturating feeding and pathogens vectoring for the cases of so-called ‘provoked aggressiveness’ and its absence. Evaluation of technical harmfulness considered a location and depth of larval galleries and pupal chambers, colonized sapwood surface, and stem part. Evaluation of general harmfulness considered physiological harmfulness, technical harmfulness and generation number. Among 22 xylophagous insect species, 4 species were widespread (Agrilus viridis (Linnaeus, 1758), Xylotrechus rusticus (Linnaeus, 1758), Xyleborinus saxeseni (Ratzeburg, 1837), and Xyleborinus attenuatus (Blandford, 1894)); 3 species were common, 6 species were rare and 9 species were single. The highest physiological harmfulness is expected for Tremex fuscicornis (Fabricius, 1787) and Tremex magus (Fabricius, 1787), Сhrysobothris affinis (Fabricius, 1774), Agrilus viridis (Linnaeus, 1758), Xylotrechus rusticus, and bark beetles. The highest technical harmfulness is expected for wood wasps – Tremex spp., jewel beetles Dicerca furcata (Thunberg, 1787) and Dicerca alni (Fischer von Waldheim, 1824), longhorn beetle Xylotrechus rusticus, and xylomycetophages – Xyleborinus sp. All widespread species are evaluated by a wide range of physiological harmfulness. Three of them (all except Agrilus viridis) are evaluated by highly technical harmfulness and from moderate to highly general harmfulness. Among the species having a common occurrence, Tremex fuscicornis can be highly harmful only in the case of tree weakening by negative factors, another two species can be non-harmful, and Xiphydria longicollis (Geoffroy, 1785) can be low harmful in the case of tree weakening by negative factors. Among the rare species, Scolytus ratzeburgi Janson, 1856 can be low or moderately harmful and Tremex magus can be low or highly harmful depending on the presence or absence of other negative factors. Among single species, Zeuzera pyrina (Linnaeus, 1761) can be moderately harmful because it colonizes almost healthy trees. The rest three species can be moderately harmful in the case of tree weakening by negative factors.

Objective: The use of neuroleptics causes not only regression of psychotic symptoms; neuroleptics affect also the patients’ mental state which is changing not only due to medications effects but also secondarily, as a result of regression of psychotic symptoms. The aim of this study was evaluation of subjectively felt “silent” (clinically latent) hostility and aggressiveness in patients with paranoid schizophrenia treated with typical neuroleptics and risperidone. Material and methods: Sixty patients (30 patients treated with typical neuroleptics and the other 30 – with risperidone) were examined with the Polish version of the following tools: Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), Adjective Check List (ACL) and Stern Activities Index (SAI). Results: The statistical analysis of the obtained results yielded many statistically significant differences within the intensity of hostility and aggressiveness in the examined groups. Conclusions: The results of this study showed a higher severity of psychological and personality problems in patients treated with typical neuroleptics, as compared to those treated with risperidone. In patients with paranoid schizophrenia treated with risperidone a lower severity of psychopathological, especially schizophrenic and paranoid, symptoms and lower hostility and aggressiveness were found. Considering that risperidone improves verbal functions, it can be assumed that this entails an improvement in the patients’ communicative competences, thereby improving also their interpersonal relationships. The results of this study indicate a higher susceptibility of people in this group to social influences and less hostility and negativity experienced by them.
Wyniki: W wyniku przeprowadzonej analizy statystycznej otrzymanych wyników uzyskano wiele różnic statystycznie istotnych w zakresie nasilenia wrogości i agresywności w badanych grupach.

The survival rate of samples stored in liquid nitrogen was scored as 88%, 45 days after thawing. The revived isolates were passaged through potato tissues four times and tested for virulence on a set of 11 Black’s differentials. The mean number of virulence factors per isolate, of these P. infestans isolates evaluated before storage, was 7.4. The isolates stored in liquid nitrogen and under paraffin oil and passaged four times through potato tissues showed a similar mean number of virulence factors per isolate, 7.3 and 6.9, respectively. Isolates stored under paraffin oil showed no expression of factor avr5, but expression of this factor occurred in six isolates after liquid nitrogen treatment. The initial expression of this factor occurred in four isolates. Before storage, the average aggressiveness of the tested isolates was assessed as 1.7, on a 1-9 scale, where 1 means the most aggressive. After storage and after four subsequent passages through potato tissues, the mean aggressiveness of isolates stored in liquid nitrogen and under paraffin oil reached the level of 1.5 and 2.1, respectively. The mean aggressiveness was not significantly different from the level of initial assessment.

Fusarium langsethiae has been identified as the primary producer of HT-2 and T-2 in European cereals. HT-2 and T-2 are considered as two of the most potent trichothecenes mycotoxins and a public health concern in Europe. There is currently no legislation on HT-2 and T-2, however, there is a discussion limit of 500 µg kg -1  in unprocessed oats, 200 µg kg-1 for oat products and 50 µg kg-1 for infant food. There are limited data regarding F. langsethiae’s pathogenicity and mycotoxin production, but it is evident that its behaviour deviates from traditional trichothecene-producing Fusarium species. This experiment was aimed at assessing the aggressiveness (measured by lesion length) of 20 different F. langsethiae isolates on wheat, barley and oats using an in vitro detached leaf assay. There was a significant (P<0.001) difference between lesion lengths formed by different F. langsethiae isolates used. Isolate Fl/2004/17(a) caused the shortest lesion on all cereals and this was significantly (P<0.001) different from that caused by isolate Fl/0/08/009/1 which caused the longest lesion on all cereals used. A highly significant difference (P<0.001) was also observed between lesions on the different cereals (wheat, barley and oats). Lesions on oats were the longest, followed by barley with wheat showing the shortest lesions.

Risk-taking and competitive aggressiveness, substantial elements of the entrepreneurial orientation of SMEs, have a significant impact on the management of SMEs. The aim of this contribution is to define the importance of these elements and to quantify the differences between entrepreneurs in terms of entrepreneur’s gender and education, and company’s age and size. Our research conducted in 2015 in the Czech Republic revealed some significant specifics within the relationships among gender, risk and competitive aggressiveness in the field of SMEs. Statistically significant differences between the designated social groups were compared through Pearson statistics at the significance level of 5%. According to our results since male and higher educated managers more intensively incline to initiative, to the realization of riskier projects and to aggressiveness against competitors, management of the entrepreneurially oriented companies should include these type of team members in order to formulate riskier and more competitively aggressive strategies. Companies which operate on the market for more than 10 years have a positive attitude and the “need” of risk and aggressive behaviour towards its competitors.

Opis:
Stagonospora nodorum produces cell wall degrading enzymes when grown in culture media containing cell wall components. The pathogen grew as well on minimal agar plates containing cellulose, xylan and pectin as glucose, except having sparser mycelia. Four cell wall-degrading enzymes, cellulase, xylanase, pectinase and b-1,3-glucanase were coordinately induced in culture filtrates growing on xyaln and cellulose as substrates. An aggressive isolate (sn26-1) secreted more cell wall-degrading enzymes than the others. Based on isoelectric focusing profiles, six to seven xylanase isozymes were induced by cellulose and xylan. No difference was found in the high (sn26-1) and low (9074) aggressive isolates. Addition of cell wall-degrading enzyme mixtures, not high xylanase alone, to a spore suspension of a low aggressive isolate (9074) caused a limited increase in tissue necrosis. We conclude that the cell wall degrading enzymes play a role in early penetration of the host by the fungus, but they are not important elicitors for disease development.
