Opis:
It has been confirmed that when the equilibrium self-fields were taken into account, the motion of an electron in a helical wiggler with axial magnetic field may be chaotic. In this paper, the effect of an ion-channel guiding on the chaotic electron trajectories is analyzed. It is shown that the ion-channel guiding may modify the chaotic electron trajectories. It is also found that when the parameter ε, i.e. ε=ω$\text{}_{pb}^{2}$/4ω$\text{}_{c}^{2}$, is increased, the density of the ion-channel guiding, i.e. α$\text{}_{i}$=ω$\text{}_{pi}^{2}$/4ω$\text{}_{c}^{2}$, must be increased to keep the modification of the chaotic motion. The chaotic trajectories for constant parameter ε and increased density of the ion-channel guiding are presented. Numerical calculations are used to find the intersection between steady state group I and group II and resonance curves. Poincaré surface-of-section maps are generated to demonstrate the chaotic electron trajectories with axial magnetic field and its modification in the presence of an ion-channel guiding.

Opis:
We construct a cubic nonlinear self-consistent theory of multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne free electron lasers of a klystron type, intended to form powerful ultrashort clusters of an electromagnetic field. Plural three-wave parametric resonant interactions of wave harmonics have been taken into account. The two-stream superheterodyne free electron lasers mode in which the first harmonic of a space-charge wave is much smaller than the critical frequency of two-stream instability has been used for forming of the powerful ultrashort clusters of electromagnetic waves. We carry out amplitude, phase and spectral analyses of the processes occurring in such devices. We found out the conditions necessary for the forming of the ultrashort clusters of an electromagnetic field. We demonstrate the possibility of the ultrashort electromagnetic cluster formation in the multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne free electron lasers-type systems.

The motion of an electron in a planar wiggler with an axial guide field is found to be nonintegrable. When taking into account the effects of self-fields of the beam, it is confirmed that the motion of an electron in a planar wiggler with a guide field may be chaotic. There is evidence of chaos from numerical calculations of nonzero Lyapunov exponents using different approaches of Benettin's method which are described and compared. Very accurate Poincaré maps are also performed.

Opis:
We have developed a quadratic nonlinear theory of a plasma-beam superheterodyne free electron laser of dopplertron type with the non-axial injection of an electron beam with respect to the guiding magnetic field. It is found out that the studied device can work in four different modes of operation. We determine the modes that have maximum gain coefficients of electromagnetic signals. It is shown that for all the operating modes the amplification factor of an electromagnetic signal is enhanced when the electron beam injection angle is increased.

Opis:
Free-electron lasers are high power radiation sources that utilize a distributed interaction between an accelerated electron beam and the electromagnetic field. In these devices, the electron beam serves as the amplification medium generating electromagnetic radiation, while propagating in a periodic magnetic structure called "wiggler" or "undulator". When electrons pass in the wiggler, they oscillate and act as a moving dipole emitting a wave packet of undulator synchrotron radiation. Incoherent summation of the wave packets results in a spontaneous emission. When the electrons are bunched into a short pulse, they all emit their wave packets in the same phase. The radiation wave packets combine coherently, resulting in super-radiance (where the energy radiated is proportional to the square of the electric charge). Such short bunches can be generated by an RF linear accelerator, driven by a photocathode injector. The radiation wavelength is determined by the velocity of the electrons and the spatial period of the undulator. The super-radiance mechanism enables the generation of intense radiation in frequency bands, whereas conventional sources fail to produce a powerful coherent radiation. In this article, we describe the design and analysis of ultrashort pulse free-electron laser operating at the sub-millimeter and terahertz regimes. The free-electron laser is based on a magnetostatic planar wiggler, in which super-radiant emission is emanated by accelerated electron bunches. A three-dimensional, space-frequency theory is developed in order to study radiation excitation in the wiggler. The total electromagnetic field (radiation and space-charge waves) is presented in the frequency domain as an expansion in terms of transverse eigenmodes of the (cold) cavity, in which the field is excited and propagates. The mutual interaction between the electron beam and the electromagnetic field is fully described by coupled equations, expressing the evolution of mode amplitudes and electron beam dynamics. The approach is applied in a numerical particle code WB3D, simulating wide-band interaction of a free-electron laser operating in the linear and non-linear regimes. The model is utilized to study spontaneous and super-radiant emissions radiated by an electron bunch at the sub-millimeter regime, taking into account three-dimensional space-charge effects emerging in such ultrashort bunches.

Construction of the facility premises was completed in 2009, with a continued progress of hardware and infrastructure installation until today. In this respect, a button type beam position monitor (BPM) is designed, produced and tested for use of TARLA facility. Antenna simulations and mechanical design studies based on TARLA electron beam parameters are carried out by the software computer simulation technology. The advent of free electron lasers opens up new opportunities to probe the dynamics of ultrafast processes and the structure of matter with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution. New methods inaccessible with other known types of radiation sources can be developed, resulting in a breakthrough in deep understanding the fundamentals of life as well as in numerous medical and biological applications. In the present work the properties of free electron laser radiation that make the sources excellent for probing biological matter at an arbitrary wavelength, in a wide range of intensities and pulse durations are briefly discussed. A number of biophysical and biomedical applications of the new sources, currently considered among the most promising in the field, are presented.

High order and non-linear effects in accelerator beamline play an important role in the transport of the beam. These effects cause variation of designed beam parameters such as emittance growth, bunch length variation, beam halo formation, etc. One of the known non-linear effects in bunch compressors is the coherent synchrotron radiation effect. In this study we focus on coherent synchrotron radiation effect in Turkish Accelerator and Radiation Laboratory in Ankara (TARLA) machine which is designed to drive Infrared Free Electron Laser, covering the range of 3-250 μm. We additionally discuss high order effects in bunch compressor of TARLA.
