Opis:
Welded joints are areas of increased stresses in construction. The reason for this phenomenon is associated with the nonhomo-geneous mechanical, structural and geometrical properties of the weld seams. Generally, in the majority of the calculation it is assumed that the shape of the weld is uniform over the entire length and it is not deviating from the theoretical one. This article shows the distribu-tion of stress in the butt-weld made of S355J2+N steel specimens. The shape of a joint was transferred to the finite element analysis by application of 3D scanning. Selected multiaxial fatigue criteria and probability mass function were used for a description of the results. Theoretical model prepared for comparison to the scanned joints was consistent with recommendations of International Institute of Welding for the effective notch method.

Opis:
Welded joints are areas of increased stresses in construction. The reason for this phenomenon is associated with the nonhomogeneous mechanical, structural and geometrical properties of the weld. In the article the correlations between locally raised stresses due to real geometry and fatigue lives of non-load carrying cruciform joints made from S355J2+N steel are analysed. Stresses were computed using Finite Element Method (FEM) based on real three-dimensional weld geometry obtained by 3D scanning. The specimens were experimentally tested under cyclic push-pull loading with a zero mean value of applied force. The correlation was analysed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and statistical hypotheses. It was shown that statistically significant correlation exists between maximum values of normal stresses and fatigue lives.

Opis:
Nowadays, the applications of the electrical machines with permanent magnets become very common, because of the outstanding properties of these devices in comparison with the induction machines. PM machines do not indicate electrical losses with the field excitation, which means increasing of their efficiency. This is a very important factor considering the urgent need of the energy conservation. Although, numerical methods for a field computation are time consuming, they provide accurate results without making any simplification of the geometry. The paper presents a comparison of 2D and 3D magnetic analysis of a PM servo motor. The analyzed servo motor is designed with a surface magnet rotor and produced by the VUES Brno company. The applied PM material is of rare earth type NdFeB. This material is characterized by a very high energy product. 2D model of this servo motor is created using AutoCAD program. The 2D magnetic analysis is computed using FEMM (finite element method magnetics). The 3D magnetic analysis is computed using a modem technique in the field of magnetic analysis of electrical machines. 3D model of the servo motor is generated using RMxprt program. The 3D magnetic analysis of the generated 3D model is computed using Maxwell 3D program. The program Maxwell 3D generates fine mesh automatically with a high accuracy. The distribution of the magnetic field inside the servo motor is computed for the case of the nominal current in both of 2D and 3D magnetic analysis. The distribution of the magnetic flux density according to the air gap length is presented too. The FEM (finite element method) is used for both 2D and 3D magnetic analysis of this servo motor.

Opis:
Purpose: Today intramedullary locked nails are widespread in treatment of diaphyseal long bone fractures of the lower limb. However, such nails have a number of drawbacks: complexity and duration of the installation, high axial stiffness, as well as the failure of locking screws and nail body. Expandable nails such as Fixion have several advantages over lockable ones. They can be quickly installed without the need of reaming and provide sufficient stabilization of the fracture. However, many studies show their low stability under torsional loads. Methods: In this paper, geometric characteristics of Fixion nail were investigated. Bone-nail systems (with Fixion and locked nail) under the influence of three types of loads were numerically studied. Two types of diaphyseal femoral fractures (type A and B in accordance with AO/ASIF classification) were examined. Results: It was revealed that Fixion nail provides axial stiffness of 489 N/mm for the fractures studied. Expandable nail showed higher compression at fragments junction than locked nail. Torsional stability of Fixion nail was also high. Corrosion was found on inner surface of Fixion nail. Conclusions: Fixion nail showed high stability under influence of the three loads studied. Corrosion on the internal wall of the nail may indicate its relatively low resistance to saline.
