Organizational culture
Opis:
Culture includes organization values, visions, norms, working language, systems, symbols, beliefs, and habits. It is also the pattern of such collective behaviour and assumptions that are taught to new organizational members as a way of perceiving, and even thinking and feeling. Organizational culture affects the way people and groups interact with each other, with clients, and with stakeholders. Workplace diversity is an issue which is focused on differences and similarities that people bring to an organization. It is usually defined broadly to include dimensions beyond those specified legally in equal opportunity and affirmative action for non-discrimination status. Diversity is often inter-preted to include dimensions which influence the identities and perspec-tives that people bring, such as a profession, education, parental status and geographic location. People from different cultures in the world find themselves interacting and working with individuals and groups from other cultures, operating and communicating according to differing sets of cultural norms, values, and communication styles. Consequently, researchers and global leadership practitioners stress a heightened need for understanding other cultures and their people, finding possible issues and what factors show potential to impede effective communication within an organization characterized by cultural diversity.

Answers to the tests made it possible to divide participants by different types of culture and built out hierarchy of values preferable for them. Results. The analysis shows that two clusters of examinees leaning toward different types of culture are empirically outlined. Their value orientations and dependence of the established values on the type of culture they lean toward is studied. The research has also indicated that  in traditional culture and modern culture there is different hierarchy of values. Conclusions. Outlining of such types of culture as traditional, modern and dynamically developing culture enables clarification of special features of culture in general. Division of culture as the system into simpler subsystems, which are characterized by certain features, enables analysis of the very phenomenon of culture in detail. Besides that, in this study the importance of values and value orientations as an integral characteristic of culture is stressed.

To derive a more effective educational method, racial differences among Chinese students in learning Korean culture was invesigated using a survey method. The Han and Joseon racial groups in China were examined. Before the survey, the Han race students (Chinese students except Joseon race students, in this case) preferred a language and culture teaching method (LCTM), whereas the Joseon race students favored an audiovisual teaching method (AVTM). However, after experiencing four different teaching methods – comparative-cultural teaching method (CCTM), AVTM, LCTM, and rote memorization teaching method—for two weeks, the Han race students preferred the AVTM more, whereas the Joseon race students preferred the CCTM. Thus, students from the same country require different education methods.

The team of the Research Laboratory of the Polish Measurement of Attitudes and Values (PPPiW) already for the fourth time measured the participation in the European Night of Museums in Warsaw. The research was conducted during the night of 16th to 17th of May 2015. The sample was N = 1,102 respondents varied in terms of gender, age, education, place of residence and income. 20 museums, located in different districts, were selected for the research, which enabled the spatial stratification of the sample. The research commentary refers to the following issues of communing with culture: the frequency of reaching for the sources of knowledge about it, the frequency of visiting facilities being its vehicle, and readership. At the same time, it needs to be said that participation in culture refers mainly to its passive consumption, namely by means of the cinema and television. Therefore, the source of knowledge about art lies in the image which supersedes the traditional role of text. Participation in culture becomes a characteristic feature of more and more narrow, elite social group. Participation in high culture to a greater and greater extent becomes the measure of social distances. It leads to the deepening of socio-cultural distances between the groups with higher positions and less educated social groups, also between the residents of cities and villages.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the ways in which religious symbols are present in non-religious spheres of contemporary European culture. It is widely known that, as a result of secularization, religious symbolic language is no longer present in the public sphere and culture of contemporary European societies in the same way as it was in the past. At first sight, it seems that it has lost its relevance for other fields of culture as well as for everyday communication, and that religion has become a relatively closed system of communication. However, more thorough investigation shows that various religious symbols are widely used in many fields of secular culture. The fundamental question concerning religious symbols is whether and, if yes, in what particular way, they change their meaning as a result of being used in non-religious cultural activity. What is the reason that previously marginalized religious symbols reappear in secular culture? It may be hypothesized that religious symbols are not culturally contingent, but they constitute a universal dimension of culture and are deeply rooted in the human mind.

Safety is a problem that every organization that wants to shape its competitiveness must be able to face in order to maintain its advantage on the market. From the point of view of the management process, the implementer of the organisation’s safety is a manager who – in shaping the organisational culture – must take into account safety factors in the broad sense of the word. Safety culture is a determinant of an organisation operating in the second decade of the 21st century. The aim of the study is to present the proprietary conceptual model of the organisation’s safety culture manager. The article was created as a result of a study of the literature on the subject along with the author’s interpretation.

In this article the pottery obtained from three wells from the settlement in Kwiatków was analyzed. Compared to other sites associated with the Przeworsk culture, this site deserves a special attention due to the presence of over a hundred of artificial water intakes within excavated area. The method of the vessels production, macro and micromorphology characteristics, the degree of their preservation and the level of deposition inside the features were examined in detail. Most of the pottery fragments should be associated with the Przeworsk culture from the Roman Iron Age, however there was also a small percentage of pottery with Jastorf culture elements. The information obtained allowed to define the context of their discovery and to explain its presence inside the well.

Opis:
Even though Baudrillard’s catchy piece of advice as for the most effective method of exploring America’s landscapes (both real and imaginary) comes from his postmodernist travelogue limited to its titular country, it is probably difficult for anyone interested in contemporary car cultures not to extend Baudrillard’s praise of the driving experience and perceive it in cognitive rather than transportation terms, not necessarily bounded by national borders. True, American driving culture and all its related contexts—its remarkable history, its contribution to social mobility, its spectacular cars, its mythologies, the list goes on and on—is not only the oldest one historically, but—given its ties with American life-styles, politics, social stratification and the overall consumerist mindset—also the most extreme one. From Henry Ford’s Model T storming millions of American households at the beginning of the 20th century to Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster shot into space in the second decade of the following one, cars have shaped American horizons, both private and collective, like no other machine. This introductory text presents the concept of the present issue of RIAS as well as the concepts underlying its feature texts.

This article is a result of researches concerning influence of the elements of kickboxing and profiled circuit training on the overall fitness of members of dispositional groups, such as antiterrorists. Taking into account the special features necessary for such people, for the experiment we chose exercises that are the best to develop them. Members of dispositional groups need special preparation so they could efficiently fight with the offenders, who threat the security. The research experiment described is of interdisciplinary character, as it regards an interdisciplinary branch of studies – securitology. Security studies, to develop the security culture, must be based on empiric researches and consists of practical elements, as there is no place for speculative theories of doubtful quality here. Therefore researches on special preparation of dispositional groups are of great importance.

Culture gives direction to the way of thinking about humans, provides a framework of what is considered as ways of realisation of humanity. It is always “somebody’s” culture because it is created by specific people and these people express themselves in the culture. This article concentrates on showing the influence of national culture on management culture, permeation of values from outside environment to organisational reality. The results of the research that had been carried out in the Polish and the Ukrainian organisations were analysed. In the adopted research procedure a diagnosis of cultural dimensions (power distance, individualism-collectivism, masculinity-femininity, uncertainty avoidance) and their comparative characteristics were made taking into account the criterion of nationality. The data collected during the studies of the employees of the Polish and the Ukrainian companies were given quantitative analysis. Afterwards, in-depth interviews with the managers of both these organisations were carried out. In this case, qualitative method was used. Its aim was to identify cultural features in the management of the studied subjects. It was concluded that shaping interpersonal, mutual relations between the employees and also between the employees and the management is influenced by the senior managers who lead the organisation. Therefore, they influence the formation of the management culture.

For a long time many authors have been studying the factors that allow for a better explanation of different accounting practices among various countries. Cultural conditions are more often regarded as one of the reasons for these differences. Cross cultural psychology may prove helpful in becoming aware of one’s own cultural identity. Researchers of this field try to systematise the traits characterising particular cultural circles. The objective of this article is to present three basic typologies of cultural value models: the conception of S.H. Schwartz, G. Hofstede and S.J. Gray. Next more recent studies that have examined the impact of national culture on accounting using these theoretical frameworks are presented.
