Opis:
Underground extraction of coal is characterized by high variability of mining and geological conditions in which it is conducted. Despite ever more effective methods and tools, used to identify the factors influencing this process, mining machinery, used in mining underground, work in difficult and not always foreseeable conditions, which means that these machines should be very universal and reliable. Additionally, a big competition, occurring on the coal market, causes that it is necessary to take action in order to reduce the cost of its production, e.g. by increasing the efficiency of utilization machines. To meet this objective it should be pro-ceed with analysis presented in this paper. The analysis concerns to availability of utilization selected mining machinery, conducted using the model of OEE, which is a tool for quantitative estimate strategy TPM. In this article we considered the machines being part of the mechanized longwall complex and the basis of analysis was the data recording by the industrial automation system. Using this data set we evaluated the availability of studied machines and the structure of registered breaks in their work. The results should be an important source of information for maintenance staff and management of mining plants, needed to improve the economic efficiency of underground mining.

Opis:
The mining production process includes a number of sub-processes, the most important of which is mining the rock mass. In this process, increasingly modern mining machines are being used to replace human labor and to achieve high productivity. Full utilization of the potential of these machines is of great importance for the efficiency of individual stages and the whole process of mining production. In the process of mining the rock mass, the use of machinery of a mechanized longwall system is of fundamental significance. Their availability, efficiency and reliability significantly affect the efficiency of the whole mining production process. The paper refers to the availability of a longwall shearer as the basic machine of a mechanized mining system. Based on the analysis of diagnostic signals, recorded by the industrial automation system, the availability of the longwall shearer was determined for 10 selected cycles of its operation. The analysis also included the phases of these cycles, treated as separate periods of the shearer’s work. This division is a consequence of a great difference in the character of the shearer’s work in particular phases of the operating cycle. The analysis covered the phases of cutting, mining and shunting. The determined temporal waveforms and the shearer’s availability in these phases show their great diversity. Therefore, the results indicated the necessity to analyze the operation of mining machines in their characteristic periods, which can be the basis for minimizing unplanned interruptions in their operation and improving the efficiency of their use.

Downtimes caused by machine failures translate into a loss of effectiveness in the mining process. The main task of maintenance teams in hard coal mines is to ensure the uninterrupted work of the machines used. A measurable effect of these activities should be reducing machine maintenance and, as a consequence, reducing the costs of coal mining; i.e., a mine’s operating costs. In the present article, two longwall mining machines have been analyzed: a cutter-loader and a plow. The analysis was based on one of the quality engineering tools – the Pareto–Lorenz diagram. This tool allows for grouping the causes of breakdowns and establishing which of them are the most important and should be removed first. The analysis has demonstrated the significance of machine selection and its adjustment to the existing geological-mining conditions. Improper selection results in increased energy consumption in the mining process, premature wear, or prolonged downtimes caused by breakdowns.

Opis:
Unscheduled downtimes in machine operation are one of the main reasons behind their low availability. Such downtimes are caused by miscellaneous factors and remain difficult to identify in a number of cases. This particularly refers to enterprises that conduct their activities in changing external conditions, such as hard coal mines, where exploitation is carried out in extremely complicated, changeable and dangerous conditions. The process of coal production makes use of various machines that must be adapted to these conditions. The specificity of the working environment makes it necessary for these machines to exhibit high reliability, readiness and efficiency. These features, in turn, make the cost of the machines very high. It is therefore reasonable to make the best use of their capabilities, which translates into the effectiveness of the entire production process. The article concentrates on determining the availability of these machines. It has been assumed that availability is one of the fundamental parameters that define the effective utilisation of machines. The tests were conducted for a longwall shearer as well as an armoured face conveyor and a main haulage conveyor in one of the hard coal mines in Poland. Industrial automation systems were used to determine unscheduled downtimes in the operation of these machines, as well as their time structure and causes. The results obtained indicate that the number of unscheduled downtimes represents a serious problem in mining exploitation.

Opis:
Currently, the industry of mining machines and appliances in Poland, as a result of considerable economic improvement on the market of energetic resources, gains an incredible opportunity for further development. However, its use is dependent on the intensification of activity internationalization. Polish sales market, due to hard coal mining decrease and financial problems of mining enter-prises, does not guarantee sales increase. Therefore, the basic objective of this article is to assess the currently used internationalization strategies of Polish enterprises performing in the industry of mining machines and appliances. In the article, in the theoretical part literature studies concerning enterprises internationalization are used. Next, the characteristics of the industry of mining machines and appliances in Poland are presented, ending with a SWOT analysis. In the part devoted to a strategy of internationalization, the results of a question-naire research conducted in the group of producers of mining machines and appliances in the 2012 were used. According the research results, Polish enterprises from the industry of mining machines and appliances in the internationalization of their activity use the sim-plest strategies that do not require engagement of capital on foreign markets. Some examined enterprises have been functioning on popular markets, offering the same products. Other ones conquer new markets and/or modify the products in order to adjust them to geological-mining requirements of target markets. Diversification strategy is not used because of high risk. The examined enterprises are not able to use dumping, due to global competitors and Chinese producers. It is not profitable to use direct investments either in exploration and penetration. The reason is mostly a lack of recognition of markets remote geographically and culturally, as well as low domestic production cost which cause that Polish producers choose a focus strategy instead of a diversification strategy.

Computer systems supporting the management of machines operation and maintenance in companies have been successfully applied in many branches of industry. Over the last few years these systems have been considerably transformed. It also seems that using them for operating mining machines in hard coal mines is inevitable, as maintenance generates high production costs. If implemented, the systems will allow for optimization of stocks, spare parts and materials, supplies, outsourced services as well as maintenance-repair works. Application of a system supporting the management of mining machines/equipment will also enable a better, more effective use of employees. As a result of these actions, the time needed for preparations and repair will be shortened, which will translate directly into the economic effects of mines.

Opis:
The changing requirements and needs of users as well as the demand for new mining machinery solutions pose a challenge for designers. Time spent on the design phase of a new machine is often reduced to a minimum. Small lot production and sometimes single piece production entails the necessity to frequently design and manufacture commercial copies, which are also prototypes. The only effective solution is to apply available CAD and CAE programs enabling digital prototyping. Their use allows for making a complete machine in a virtual environment. The virtual model is subjected to tests aimed at eliminating collisions, optimizing the construction as well as obtaining a lot of information concerning the load, kinematics, dynamics, stability and power demand. Digital prototyping enables avoiding the majority of errors whose detection and elimination in a real object is time-consuming and expensive. The article presents examples of the application of broadly understood computer aided designing of self-propelled mining machines, produced by Mine Master. The effects of applying the modelling, FEM strength analysis, static and dynamic simulations, modelling of drive systems have been demonstrated. The methods used to validate computer models and verify the parameters of finished machines have also been discussed.

The scientific purpose of this paper was to analyse the problem related to intermodal transportation of mining components packed in containers or other cargo transport units coupled with the problem of its proper securing. In this article, the issue of exposing the load to the effects of inertia forces which might cause unintentional movement is presented. The methods of securing the heavy load in cargo transport units are reviewed in the context of cargo immobilisation possibilities while reducing the load sensitivity to mechanical forces. The research part of this article presents the methods of packing and securing an atypical load, which is a part of a mining machine weighing 18t. This paper presents the results of calculations of inertia forces acting on the transported cargo, packed on a container platform. Based on the results, the cross fixing method was selected to secure the cargo and further decisions were made on the type and quantity of conveyor lashings necessary for the safe and correct carriage of the atypical load.

The growing requirements and needs of users as well as a strong emphasis on pro-ecological solutions cause an increasing interest in battery-powered electric mining machines. Internal combustion machines consume oxygen, generate noise, fumes and heat, which affects work in underground mines, and minimizing these factors is expensive. Battery solutions allow achieving the same operational parameters of machines with significantly higher safety, comfort and work culture. The problem, however, is their range or working time. The article presents global trends in the development of battery-operated machines for underground mining. Various machines in battery-powered versions have been presented. The applied solutions have been discussed, especially in the field of battery replacement or recharging and braking energy recovery. Manufacturers around the world offer more and more battery-powered machines. Some producers are announcing complete replacement of combustion solutions with electric ones within the next few years. There are also hydrogen machines on the horizon, which will probably be the next step on the road to a zero-emission industry.

The exploitation of mineral resources with underground mining methods is becoming more and more difficult due to the mining and geological conditions in which these resources are present. This is related to the depth of retention and thickness of the exploited deposits (seams), more cohesive and durable rocks, and climatic conditions. The excavation of access and preparatory roadways as well as exploitation under such conditions require specially designed and manufactured machines. In recent years in the Department of Mining, Dressing, and Transport Machine at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, a number of innovative solutions of machines and devices have been developed that can be used to work under difficult mining and geological conditions. This article presents selected solutions of these machines and devices – a mining head for a roadheader with asymmetrical disc tools with a complex motion trajectory, a temporary, mechanized, and walking roadway support, a unique longwall complex with a single-cutting head shearer used for thin coal seam exploitation, and an innovative mining and hauling system for mechanical shaft drilling using a shaft shearer.
