    This article highlights selected characteristics of Swiss international arbitration law focussing on interim measures in sports-related disputes. The key academic concern of the article is to indentify whether under Swiss law the parties may waive the state courts’ jurisdiction to grant interim relief in international arbitral proceedings and declare the arbitral tribunal as exclusively competent. The view held in this article favours the admissibility of the waiver based on mainly two arguments: the parties’ autonomy and the lack of statutory limitations to the waiver. Further, this article deems that in ad hoc arbitral proceedings the waiver is not enforceable (but not null and void) as long as the tribunal has not been yet established. In such a case, the parties may exceptionally request interim relief with state courts. Seeking for a arbitral alternative to the said solution the article scrutinises whether in sports-related disputes the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne could be competent until the constitution of the ad hoc tribunal. Finally, the article examines the formal requirements for the waiver.

    The article presents maters of contemporary Labour Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Switzerland, regulated – or “outlined” – for the first time only recently. Amongst main things the study refers to such matters as: arbitration and collective employment contracts, mediation, and arbitrability of international and domestic labour disputes. These are presented thoroughly and compared with conclusions, and future options.

    Opis:
    We investigate whether earnings forecasts issued by sell-side analysts are incrementally informative about the returns of firms listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE), a moderately-developed, postcommunist capital market. Our sample covers the fiscal years 2008-2016. The informativeness of earnings (and earnings forecasts) is defined as the association between earnings (earnings forecasts) and returns. Our findings indicate that the mean earnings forecasts issued by sell-side analysts are incrementally informative about firm returns beyond the earnings reported. This result does not depend on firm size, profitability, or market return. The findings indicate that such forecasts incorporate useful incremental valuation information and that the incremental informativeness of these forecasts serves to protect the interests of analysts’ clients.
    Celem badania jest odpowiedź na pytanie, czy prognozy wyników finansowych publikowane przez analityków giełdowych (sell side) niosą dodatkową informację o stopach zwrotu z inwestycji w akcje spółek notowanych na Giełdzie Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie (GPW), umiarkowanie rozwiniętym postkomunistycznym rynku kapitałowym. Nasza próba obejmuje lata podatkowe 2008–2016. Pojemność informacyjną wyników finansowych raportowanych (i prognoz wyników) definiuje się jako związek między wynikami (prognozami wyników) a stopami zwrotu. Nasze wyniki wskazują, że średnie prognozy wyników publikowane przez analityków niosą dodatkową informację o stopach zwrotu, ponad informację zawartą w wynikach raportowanych. Nie zależy to od wielkości spółki, jej rentowności ani stopy zwrotu. Wyniki wskazują, że w prognozach inkorporowana jest nowa, użyteczna do wyceny infor-macja, a zatem służą one ochronie interesów klientów analityków.

    Objective: The aim of the study was to estimate usability of the piezoelectric knife in larynx surgery. Prove that the piezoelectric staff can be used to do any different shape incision within the larynx cartilages. Material and methods: 35 patients hospitalized in our Department in 2014–2016 were enrolled in our study. 24 patients went vertical partial laryngectomy and 1 patient went horizontal partial laryngectomy because of larynx cancer. 5 patients went partial laryngectomy because of low stage of piriformis recess cancer. Piezoelectric staff was used to do thyroidectomy and resection of thyroid cartilage suspected of carcinomatosis infiltration. The rest 4 patients had done widening of larynx lumen due to larynx stenosis or slenderness. The piezoelectric tool was used to do different incision or resection within the larynx cartilages in case of widening lumen of the larynx. Results: The larynx cartilages, especially thyroid cartilage could be cut in different shapes using piezoelectric tools. The usage of this equipment causes the minimal loss and small destruction of local healthy tissues. Conclusions: The Piezoelectric instrument is useful instrument suit to operate within larynx cartilages. Exchangeable tip available in different shapes enables different resections of cartilages. Using the piezoelectric staff we can remove pathological tissue with minimal local destruction. Our observation shows that larynx operation with a usage of the piezoelectric knife is safe and effective. Current English literature does not describe usage piezoelectric tools in larynx surgery. It is essential to do more observation about that type of operations.

    Purpose of the study: The aim of the study was to present the treatment outcomes after vertical partial laryngectomy with or without pedunculated sternothyroid muscle flap reconstruction following the resection of neoplasm-infiltrated vocal fold. The procedure was used in a patient with glottic cancer. Oncological outcomes, morphology of neo-vocal fold and the act of swallowing were evaluated. Material and methods: 45 patients with T1-T2 glottic cancer were subjected to vertical partial laryngectomy with 26 patients undergoing a procedure with pedunculated sternothyroid muscle flap reconstruction and the remaining 19 patients undergoing a procedure without such a reconstruction. Two female and 43 male patients aged 35-82 years (mean age of 62.5 years) were enrolled in the study. Local tumor spread and the condition of reconstructed vocal fold were assessed in sequential videofiberoscopy examination conducted each month after surgery whereas the regional spread was assessed in ultrasound scans. Postoperative aspiration was graded according to the Pearson’s scale. Results: Six patients experienced local recurrence while 2 patients experienced regional recurrence of the tumor. The pedunculated sternothyroid muscle flap neo-fold was structurally resemblant of the non-affected vocal fold. Episodic, daily dysphagia was observed in 1 patient while normal act of swallowing with no Pearson’s scale symptoms was observed in the remaining 44 patients. No necrosis of pedunculated flap was observed. Conclusions: Vertical partial laryngectomy with or without pedunculated sternothyroid muscle flap reconstruction is a good method for the treatment of low- or intermediate-stage glottic cancer, especially when endoscopic access to the tumor is limited and when CO2 laser cannot be used. No significant functional disorders were observed in operated larynges.

    The interest in Swahili lexicography at the University of Warsaw has a long tradition and was initiated by the first lecturer of Swahili – prof. Rajmund Ohly. He was not only an observer but his name has been indelibly written into the history of Swahili lexicography. His passion inspired the next generation and some projects aiming at creating Swahili dictionaries have been undertaken in the Department. That resulted in a state-financed grant on Swahili-Polish dictionary that is to be delivered at the end of 2012.

    Multidrug resistance has for many years attracted attention of numerous investigators. Attempts have also been made to increase efficiency of anti-neoplastic therapy. For this reason, most of efforts have been devoted to analysing proteins engaged in the mechanism of multidrug resistance such as the N-glycosylated membrane protein glycoprotein P. Interestingly, glycosylation probably plays a significant role in the intracellular location and activity of modified proteins. Inhibitors of glycosylation have been demonstrated to alter the activity of glycoprotein P in various ways, depending on the cell line examined. These inhibitors markedly reduce multidrug resistance of cancer cells, thus promoting success of anti-neoplastic therapy. Here, we review the basic knowledge on N-glycosylation inhibitors, their effect on glycoprotein P and their therapeutic potential.
