The article seeks to analyse the accessibility of hospital healthcare to inhabitants of Łódź voivodeship in 2015. The analysis comprises all the communes of the Łódź region as well as those of the neighbouring voivodeships from which the theoretical time of reaching hospitals in Łódź voivodeship does not exceed the maximum time assumed in the research. Accessibility was determined in reference to 51 hospitals, assuming that their ‘attractiveness’ was related to the number of permanent beds they offered. The research was conducted using the three-step floating catchment area method (3SFCA).

The aim of the article is to analyze how selected elements of trans-European corridor network are consistent with land use within the boundaries of Poland. The Baltic–Adriatic and Baltic-North Sea corridors comprise both roads and rail lines. In the case of rail the only points which may be included in the traffic are stops, stations or handling points of different kinds. Also the analysis of accessibility to the road network is single-point in character as corridors function on the basis of the highest category roads (motorways and expressways), which are connected with the road network surrounding them only in nodes with slip-roads. This is why analyses of accessibility to the trans-European network are based in this research on analysis of accessibility of points. Cumulative accessibility is the main research method which finds its specification in the subsequent part of this work. Thanks to it it was possible to specify the level of adjustment of corridor routes and their point infrastructure elements to the elements of land development of Poland’s space, including its settlement network, distribution of demographic potential or economic activity. Research was conducted for several variants of movement: foot travel, journeys on the road and rail network as well as the multimodal network representing different configurations of the aforementioned transport modes, both for passenger and goods transport. The article presents the situation as of August 2016.

This article presents changes to the location of the centroid of Łódź province towns resulting from their intraregional time accessibility as well as from transformations in the potential accessibility connected with the dynamic development of road infrastructure. The research was extended through using descriptive methods of spatial statistics as well as spatial data exploratory analysis with focus on dispersion statistics in the form of standard deviation ellipse. Features of ellipses elaborated for individual moments in the development of intraregional infrastructure connections allow to define transformations of transport potential of the province’s towns from the spatial perspective.
W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono zmiany położenia środka ciężkości miast województwa łódzkiego wynikające z ich wewnątrzregionalnej dostępności czasowej oraz towarzyszących im przemian w dostępności potencjałowej związanej z dynamicznym rozwojem infrastruktury drogowej. Badanie poszerzono o zastosowanie opisowych metod statystyki przestrzennej oraz eksploracyjnej analizy danych przestrzennych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem statystyk dyspersji w postaci elipsy odchylenia standardowego. Cechy elips wykreślonych dla poszczególnych momentów w rozwoju regionalnych powiązań infrastrukturalnych pozwalają na określenie przemian potencjału transportowego miast województwa w ujęciu przestrzennym.

W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono położenie Łodzi w sieci transportowej Polski oraz regionu łódzkiego. Skupiono się na lokalizacji ośrodka względem głównych elementów sieci drogowej, kolejowej i lotniczej we wskazanej skali krajowej i regionalnej. Ze względu na fizycznogeograficzne położenie Łodzi, te trzy gałęzie transportu wyczerpują możliwości transportowych powiązań miasta. Ponadto poddano charakterystyce relacje transportowe Łodzi w zakresie funkcjonującego transportu zbiorowego z uwzględnieniem wymienionych wcześniej form przewozu. Opracowanie zawiera również informacje na temat znaczenia Łodzi jako węzła transportowego przy przepływach ładunków. Wszystkie powyższe analizy poprzedzają rozważania nad lokalizacją Łodzi na tle transeuropejskich korytarzy transportowych oraz przegląd historycznych uwarunkowań powiązań transportowych obszaru dzisiejszej Łodzi.
This article presents the location of Łódź in the transport network of Poland and the Łódź region. It focuses on the centre’s location in reference to the main elements of road, rail and air networks on a national and regional scale. Due to physical and geographical location of Łódź, the three branches of transport exhaust the city’s transport possibilities. Besides that, transport relations of Łódź are characterized as far as the functioning public transport is concerned, considering all the aforementioned modes of transport. The study also includes information on the significance of Łódź as a transport node for cargo transport. All these analyses precede reflections on the location of Łódź against the background of trans-European transport corridors as well as an overview of historical conditioning of transport connections of the area of today’s Łódź.

This article presents the operating principles of the Baltic–Adriatic Transport Corridors – a supranational structure functioning on the background of European countries and on the Polish Baltic Sea coast in particular. It deals with both the issue of transport policy within the framework of this corridor and implemented logistics solutions accompanying changes in goods flow, since the importance of transport corridor is determined not only by infrastructure with adequately high technical parameters, but also by the type of flows which are accomplished via this corridor. And these, in the case of the Baltic–Adriatic transport corridor, are going to increase dynamically in the foreseeable future.

This article presents results of research devoted to spatial diversification of accessibility to passenger rail transport in the Łódź province. The analysis was conducted on the basis of a full inventory of railway connections of carriers providing their services within the boundaries of the region. Calculations were made in reference to 158 train stations and train stops as well as the population of 4,965 settlement units. Two variants of reaching a train stop by passenger were distinguished: on foot and using individual car transport. Both solutions include a number of border variants in the form of maximum equidistances of access on foot and isochrones of travel by car. Research proceedings were based on two-step floating catchment area (modified for the purposes of research into effectiveness of public rail transport), which provides for train frequency and travel time to individual stops from the topological perspective.

The aim of the article is to analyse the land transport accessibility of two trans-European corridors within the boundaries of Poland. The adjustment of the course of transport routes to the distribution of the population and the country's land development (including economic potential and logistic infrastructure) was outlined using measurements of cumulative accessibility. The results were presented in both cartographic form (isochrone approach) and tabular form (cumulative approach). Research was conducted adopting different forms of transport used for relocation (including foot traffic, car, rail and multimodal transport) and both the current and target layout of the transport network. This made it possible to determine the changes that will effectively run the process of investment in transport infrastructure on Polish territory. This allowed the identification of the areas of Poland which are particularly conveniently located in relation to domestic connections (in terms of the international network) and those for which the European transport network remains difficult to access.

The article presents a forecast of changes in the level of transport accessibility and mobility in Poland as a result of the anticipated development of the network of expressways and motorways. The progress which has been made in this respect in the last few years in Poland is unquestionable and unrepeatable by any other European country. Will the subsequent investment plans concerning the road network of the highest parameters offer equally impressive results as far as the increase in Poland’s territorial cohesion is concerned? The aim of this article is to establish in what way the planned infrastructure investments will affect the changes in transport accessibility and mobility as well as whether they will result in the changes in traffic flows directed to Warsaw and other regional centres. To achieve this, an analysis of the present and target state of the road network in Poland was conducted from the perspective of changes in accessibility, anticipated traffic flows, and mobility. For this purpose the authors used the analyses of isochrone and accumulative accessibility in ArcMap environment and research into traffic flows and their changes in the Visum software. The conducted research showed that the planned transport network might result in induced traffic through a increase in accessibility (the central variant) with the assumption that an increase in mobility would be vented in the real face of the phenomenon of motility. The fact of opening new road sections of expressways will contribute to substantial changes in the directions of traffic flows only to a slight extent, and the only transformations concern regions with already developed fast car transport infrastructure whose functionality is limited due to the lack of its cohesion in the subsequent course or lack of a developed network of expressways and motorways.

The aim of the article is to assess the pedestrian accessibility to parks situated within the boundaries of Łódź. 43 park layouts of the total surface of 574.6 ha were inventoried in the analyzed are (www.zielonalodz.info; www.parki.org.pl; www.bip.uml.lodz.pl), of which 13 are historical (Studium…2010; Wycichowska 2008). The outcome of the analyses was presentation of the number of inhabitants within 0-5,5-10 and 10-15-minute isochrones from the parks. To achieve this, the author used data from the City of Łódź Office. It was established that the largest concentration of potential park users (pre-working and postworking age population) can be found in the city centre and its vicinity. Regrettably, cultivated green areas occupy only a small surface there. Over half of the city inhabitants (56.3%) live within walking distance of parks. The largest number of people inhabit the areas near Staromiejski Park and Podolski Park. In turn, Nad Nerem Park (on the Ner River) in the south-western part of the city is characterized by the lowest pedestrian accessibility for Łódź inhabitants.
W artykule za cel przyjęto ocenę dostępności pieszej parków zlokalizowanych w granicach Łodzi. Na analizowanym obszarze zinwentaryzowano 43 założenia parkowe, o łącznej powierzchni 574,6ha (www.zielonalodz.info; www.parki.org.pl; www. bip.uml.lodz.pl), z czego 13 jest zabytkowych (Studium…2010; Wycichowska 2008). Wynikiem analiz było przedstawienie liczby mieszkańców w izochronach0-5 minut; 5-10 minut; oraz 10-15 minut od parków. W tym celu wykorzystano dane pochodzące z Urzędu Miasta Łodzi. Stwierdzono, że największa koncentracja potencjalnych użytkowników parków (osoby w wieku przedprodukcyjnym i poprodukcyjnym) występuje w centrum miasta oraz w jego sąsiedztwie. Niestety tereny zieleni urządzonej mają tam niewielką powierzchnię. W czasie dojścia do 15 minut od parków, mieszka ponad połowa mieszkańców miasta (56,3%). Najwięcej osób rezyduje w pobliżu parku Staromiejskiego i Podolskiego.Najsłabszą dostępnością pieszą dla mieszkańców Łodzi charakteryzuje się z kolei Park nad Nerem, położony w południowo-zachodniej części miasta.

This article has two aims: the cognitive one and the methodological one. The first one focuses on delineating city areas (of Łódź in this case), in relation to which a conscious parking policy should be implemented, including differentiation of the base parking fee and dynamics of parking cost increment in time. The methodological aim, in turn, consists in elaborating a research algorithm based exclusively on the geographical information system, which is based on generally available vector data, together with data obtained from intelligent transport systems. For their realization of the authors of this article elaborated their own methodology. It consists of five stages. The basic research unit is the surveying district. The area on the basis of which the research was made is the Łódź urban zone defined in the Strategy of Spatial Development for Łódź (2012). Each research stage corresponds to defining the power of impact of the variable which, as an research overview shows, affects the parking policy. Since the research is conducted on the basis different variables at individual stages and finally the coefficient assumes the form of five elements, it is necessary to standardize partial results. The article uses a procedure based on the quotient of the difference between the calculated value and the average for the whole group, divided by standard deviation. The results of the conducted research in the cognitive scope show that problems connected with parking organization do not concern only the very city centre (mostly the district of Śródmieście). Particular attention should be drawn to areas next to the city’s main transport arteries which go latitudinally (for instance, Piłsudski avenue) or meridionally (e.g. Kościuszki street, Zachodnia street).

The aim of the study is to evaluate the spatial variation in the size and shape of land plots in Mazowieckie voivodship. For the purposes of the study both the shape and the compactness of the plots were measured, and the typology of communes was drawn based on this information. Subsequently, based on the two indicators related to the shape of plots, four types of communes were distinguished, depending on whether their values were higher or lower than the average (Dzieciuchowicz and Dmochowska-Dudek, 2014). In addition, the paper includes calculations for the average share of unused land in the plot surface area, the average horizontal intensity of parcel development, and an indication of the type of land coverage dominant in the plots, by commune type. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used in the analyses. It has been found that the studied area is dominated by plots characterised by small diversity in shape and high degree of compactness – mainly in the north-western part of the voivodship, as well as those where plots are highly diverse in shape and low in compactness – in the south-eastern part of the voivodship.

The purpose of this article is to present the authors' own software for predicting changes in the density and directions of traffic flows and to compare overall results of research on transport accessibility with the results returned in the study of transport accessibility conducted with the software (isochronic accessibility). Developed for research purposes, the authors' application is based on Dijkstra's algorithm, which is classified as one of the greedy ones and does not always return optimum results, even though it is considered to be generally accurate. In the course of the research, it was stated that the implementation of Dijkstra's algorithm in the RoadLoad tool is suitable for studying and prognosing phenomena, under the assumption that there are detailed data on the point of departure and destination for each trip. The tool enables us to research a spatial (cumulated values of network load) as well as time-spatial (network load at virtually any time) dimension of the phenomenon. It cannot be applied, however, without the knowledge of the transport behavior characteristics of the users of the road system.

The quality of ambient air attracts considerable, widespread interest. Over the last decades, air purification has become an integral part of HVAC systems, process engineering, automotive and respiratory protection. Efficient separation of micro- and nano- particles is solidly linked with the development of new, sophisticated filtrating materials, as well as generating and validating mathematical models of such porous structures. The paper regards the numerical modeling of various filters. The presented work aims to validate four virtual filtrating materials – the fiberglass HEPA filter, the paper filter used in the automotive industry, knitted wire mesh and polyurethane foam. The pressure drop obtained for the filters under investigation was examined. The CFD results were validated against the data available in the literature. The agreement of the results of numerical and experimental studies proves the suitability of the proposed methods. At the same time, the simplifications employed in the simulations leave room for further improvement in future works.
