Opis:
The efficacy of mebendazole was evaluated as a result of six-year experience in the treatment of patients of Outpatients Clinic and Clinic of Infectious, Parasitic and Tropical Diseases in Łódź. The treatment covered 6132 subjects infected with: Ascaris lumbricoides, Ancylostoma duodenale, Trichiuris trichiura, Enterobius vermicularis and Echinococcus granulosus. Nematode infections were diagnosed by coproscopic methods whereas echinococcosis with serologie tests and ultrasonographic examination of abdominal cavity. Mebendazole was administered in the dose of 200 mg per day: for 3 days in ascariasis, for 5 days in A. duodenale, T. trichiura and mixed infections. In enterobiosis was applied a pulsation therapy: 200 mg a day for 3 days, a week of break (three subsequent cycles). In echinococcosis the drug was administered in the daily dose of 600 mg for 30 days. Follow-up examinations were carried out 30, 60, 120 and 160 days after the treatment. In the case of inetfectiveness of the first course, the treatment was repeated. The efficacy of the therapy was as follows: ascariasis 97.1%, A. duodenale infection 100%, trichuriasis 92.1%, enterobiosis 93.3%, mixed infections 95.3%, echinococcosis 77.2%. No side effects were observed.

The authors of the paper analyzed 21 common methods of measuring a company’s intellectual capital, finding that none of them meet all 6 demands that a model indicator should satisfy. As a result, a new method was developed, which meets the conditions for a model indicator. Using the chosen expert method, a synthetic indicator of a company’s level of intellectual capital (WPKI) has been determined. The authors of the paper determine the WPKI indicator for public construction companies using the algorithm defining a hidden value.

Intellectual capital is, in general, considered to be a component of a company’s market value, which is not always reflected in its financial statements. The authors analyzed 21 of the most common methods of measuring company’s intellectual capital. Detailed analysis of these methods made it possible to identify a set of 7 basic criteria that clearly distinguish them. The paper presents a comparative matrix of methods of measuring intellectual capital in terms of all the considered criteria. It is shown that, among the best known methods of measuring intellectual capital, there is no so-called “standard measure”, i.e. one which fulfils all the criteria at the same time.

Opis:
The main aim of the paper is to present the synthesis of the results of methodological analysis conducted on examples of foresight projects executed in chosen companies representing four companies type: small and medium-sized enterprise (SME), nonprofit-organization, international corporations and consulting companies as well as to posit functional approach for the implementation of foresight research within organizations. The empirical part of the study is based on the qualitative approach. A multiple case study methodology is employed. The research objects are sixteen companies experienced in foresight research. The first part of the paper gives an overview of definitions of corporate foresight and the analysis of background that have influence on the conducting of foresight in large multinational companies on one side and SMEs on the other side. In the field of the theory of foresight research, the study demonstrates that there are different motivations for foresight introduction as well as different organizational structure of teams conducting the activities and the approaches that they use. In the practical perspective, the study and a detailed functional foresight approach proposed by authors could be valuable for SMEs who consider implementing foresight research into their strategic planning processes.

Extracellular laccase produced by the wood-rotting fungus Cerrena unicolor was immobilised covalently on the mesostructured siliceous foam (MCF) and three hexagonally ordered mesoporous silicas (SBA-15) with different pore sizes. The enzyme was attached covalently via glutaraldehyde (GLA) or by simple adsorption and additionally crosslinked with GLA. The experiments indicated that laccase bound by covalent attachment remains very active and stable. The best biocatalysts were MCF and SBA-15 with Si–F moieties on their surface. Thermal inactivation of immobilised and native laccase at 80°[degrees]C showed a biphasic-type activity decay, that could be modelled with 3parameter isoenzyme model. It appeared that immobilisation did not significantly change the mechanism of activity loss but stabilised a fraction of a stable isoform. Examination of time needed for 90% initial activity loss revealed that immobilisation prolonged that time from 8 min (native enzyme) up to 155 min (SBA-15SF).

Propagation of ultrasonic waves in the tissue is sensitive to the alternation of tissue composition and structure.. This paper presents the classification of healthy skin and skin lesions (basal cell carcinoma (BCC)) based on statistic parameters of the envelope of echosignal. The statistics of envelope of the ultrasonic signal was modeled using Rayleigh and non-Rayleigh (the K-distribution) statistics. Furthermore the characteristic parameter of K-distribution, the effective number of scaterrers (M) was investigated. Comparison of the results obtained for region of the skin where the BCC was diagnosed and the regions of healthy skin has shown differences in the values of M parameter. These results indicate that this parameter has the potential for extracting information useful for characterizing skin lesions.

Integrated gasification combined cycle systems (IGCC) are becoming more popular because of the characteristics, by which they are characterized, including low pollutants emissions, relatively high efficiency of electricity production and the ability to integrate the installation of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Currently, the most frequently used CO2 capture technology in IGCC systems is based on the absorption process. This method causes a significant increase of the internal load and decreases the efficiency of the entire system. It is therefore necessary to look for new methods of carbon dioxide capture. The authors of the present paper propose the use of membrane separation. The paper reviews available membranes for use in IGCC systems, indicates, inter alia, possible places of their implementation in the system and the required operation parameters. Attention is drawn to the most important parameters of membranes (among other selectivity and permeability) influencing the cost and performance of the whole installation. Numerical model of a membrane was used, among others, to analyze the influence of the basic parameters of the selected membranes on the purity and recovery ratio of the obtained permeate, as well as to determine the energetic cost of the use of membranes for the CO2 separation in IGCC systems. The calculations were made within the environment of the commercial package Aspen Plus. For the calculations both, membranes selective for carbon dioxide and membranes selective for hydrogen were used. Properly selected pressure before and after membrane module allowed for minimization of energy input on CCS installation assuring high purity and recovery ratio of separated gas.
