Opis:
The open-pit extraction of lignite in the Bełchatów Lignite Mine can be conducted after prior deep dewatering of the rock mass, realized with large-diameter dewatering wells distributed in the form of outer and inner barriers. This type of dewatering system allows for safe extraction of lignite, however residual waters in the overburden may locally create hazard. These are rain waters infiltrating into the rock mass, and which, due to the complicated geological structure of the deposit and disturbed system of layers, were not intaken by wells belonging to the primary dewatering system. They are removed through the existing and newly drilled exploration wells, which are converted into drainage wells. Such wells are used for removing waters suspended in permeable overburden and gravitationally moved to the lower absorbing layers, from where they are directed to the primary dewatering system wells and then to the surface water courses. The applied enhancement of the dewatering system used in the lignite deposit significantly improves the safety of mining works conducted in this place. Technical and technological aspects of drilling dewatering wells in Bełchatów Lignite Mine are discussed in this paper and followed by the evaluation of efficiency of dewatering of the overburden.

Opis:
The downhole parts of the “Bełchatów” Lignite Mine are dewatered through large diameter dewatering wells belonging to the primary drainage system. This system is supported by additional shallow wells performed in the overburden, in the forefield of extraction site or on the extraction site itself. They are used for limiting and removing residual water from extraction site, which corresponds to the height of excavator level. They are preceded by the analysis of dewatering of the mining benches based on the results of control drilling and observation of the water table in the existing piezometric wells. Shallow auxiliary wells are drilled with the “dry” rotary method to about 30 m of depth. Such wells considerably reduce the amount of water coming to the mine with rainwaters, and which were not captured by wells of the primary drainage system. This is mainly caused by such factors as complex geological build, disturbed system of strata, presence of synclinal structures and closed lenses. The technique and technology of drilling supporting shallow wells with the “dry” rotary method and their effect on dewatering of active extraction sites are discussed in this paper.

Opis:
Noise is generated in all semiconductor devices. The intensity of these fluctuations depends on used elements, manufacturing process, operating conditions and device type. The result noise is a superposition of different kinds of fluctuations like thermal noise, generation-recombination noise, 1/f noise, shot noise and Random Telegraph Signal (RTS) noise. The last one, RTS noise is observed as nonstationary impulse fluctuations. Unfortunately, it is hard to notice and investigate the RTS because of DC component value in contradiction to small amplitude of noise impulses. In the paper a simple filtrating system which removes the DC component without AC signal distortion is presented. Example oscilloscope measurement results and their analysis are also shown.

Transport properties of 10μm to 30μm wide grain-boundary junctions ion-etched in thin colossal magnetoresistance La$\text{}_{0. 7}$Sr$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ films deposited on a SrTiO$\text{}_{3}$ bi-crystal were investigated. We have measured the current-voltage characteristics in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K without applied magnetic field, as well as the magnetoresistance at magnetic fields up to±10 kOe directed parallel to the film surface, both perpendicular and parallel to the direction of current flow through the junctions. The investigated junctions have nonlinear current-voltage characteristics in this temperature range and consist of several magnetic domains. The maximum magnetoresistance (R(H)-R $\text{}_{max}$)/R$\text{}_{max}$, measured at 1 kOe was -17.6% at 4.1 K.

Opis:
Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus Linne) is a tuberous perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, which originates from North America, and is also known as wild sunflower or topinambur (TPB). It is characterized by good tolerance to frost, drought and poor soil, strong resistance to pests and plant diseases. For ages it was cultivated due to being both an edible tuber and having healing properties. In folk medicine, TPB leaves are used for the treatment of bone fractures and pain. TPB tubers are rich in sugar and have therefore been used for the production of functional food ingredients, such as inulin. Moreover, TPB is one of the potential crops for bioenergy production, such as bioethanol, biobuthanol and biodiesel, and chemicals (lactic acid, butyric acid). A number of bioactive compounds from the above ground parts of this plant have been isolated which have demonstrating antifungal, antioxidant and anticancer activities. In recent years, a number of animal experiments have been carried out to assess the health properties of TPB. Obtained results show that TPB possess a wide spectrum of medical applications, e.g. reduction in the levels of plasma glucose, total cholesterol and triglyceride. Interestingly, TPB has been shown to be a valuable alternative source of prebiotic compounds. This review article presents recent scientific reports on the chemical and biological properties of TPB and its potential use as a prebiotic diet supplement.

Effects of different pre-planting soil preparations and post-harvest wood debris applications in a clear-cut Scots pine plantation, on the abundance, diversity, and activity of culturable microorganisms were investigated. The investigation was done 9 years after the re-plantings had been done. This formed part of an investigation of silvicultural practices for conservation and the biological control of Armillaria and Heterobasidion in northern temperate forests (Poland). The treatments being compared, were expected to have altered the soil’s physical and chemical properties, and consequently, its biological properties. Only soft-rot microfungi from the Ascomycota and Zygomycota were detected in the soil. Fungi, including those antagonistic to Armillaria and Heterobasidion, were more abundant after shallow ploughing than after deep ploughing or ridging, and where chipped rather than coarse wood debris was left on the soil surface or incorporated. Scots pine trees had the most biomass and the least mortality after ridging and leaving coarse wood debris on the surface (associated with only a relatively moderate abundance of fungi).

Opis:
For the first time, thin films of $NdBaCo_{2}O_{5+x}$ were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering on different substrates. The films deposited on $SrLaAlO_4(001)$ substrates exhibited highly textured structure with c-axis directed out-of-plane. Magnetic measurements M vs. T of three $NdBaCo_{2}O_{5+x}$/$SrLaAlO_4(001)$ films revealed successively paramagnetic-ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic transitions with decrease in temperature. Their paramagnetic Curie-Weiss temperatures were estimated to be in the range of $T_{C}$ =100-116 K. Resistivity of the cobaltite thin film exhibited insulating behavior and the best fit was found for the variable range hopping mechanism.

Opis:
We have investigated the structure, and electric, optical, and magnetic properties of LaSr(Ca)MnO films containing atomic clusters of various types coherently built into the basic crystallographic matrix. Below the transition to the metallic state, the electrical conductivity of the films is determined by tunneling of charge carriers between metallic clusters. We have found that for each sample there exists a threshold value of magnetic ordering, above which the magnetic subsystem starts to affect actively the film conductivity. The observed increase of conductivity with decreasing temperature is caused by the fact that in the process of magnetic ordering of the samples the cluster size and concentration of metallic phase increase. Experimental results are in agreement with theoretical calculations.
