Opis:
This article is a review of research studies conducted in the Central Institute for Labour Protection (CIOP) on ergonomic aspects of personal protective equipment (PPE) design and use. Research was related to, among other things, a comparison of body strain and work time limitation for users wearing gas-tight and drill suits. Some other studies were connected with the biophysical properties of clothing materials for medical use. On the basis of the measurement results, a proposal of clothing construction with an optimum combination of protection and comfort was created. Research leading to the development of test methodology concerning automatic welding filters with switchable luminous transmittance is also conducted n CIOP. The article also brings up the subject of designing new PPE assuring a high level of comfort. A modei of material to be used under tight protective clothing, an inflammable harness for working at a height, and a model of intelligent clothing that will assist human thermoregulation processes during physical effort are examples of new PPE.

Opis:
Part of the Polish-Swedish OSHMAN project was carried out in a textile company. It aimed at implementing and improving effective health and safety management with workers’ active involvement at all levels of the enterprise. The two main problems to be solved during the project were decreasing occupational risk and improving workers’ poor knowledge on occupational risk. Training courses, workshops and practical activities were undertaken. As expected, there were changes in work organisation and improvement in the way workstations were looked after, which led to a decrease in occupational risk. Workers were highly committed during the project. Nevertheless it seems that more training should be directed at middle management.

Opis:
The aim of the article was to diagnose the professional burnout, work ethic, beliefs about the social world among employees of the Rybnik Coal District and analyse the relationships between these variables. The authors checked whether work ethic, beliefs concerning the bad world, system justification, focus on social dominance, compassion, faith in life, as a zero-sum game and identification with Poland constitute a predictor of professional burnout of employees of industrial and mining plants. It was stated that exhaustion is associated with deferred gratification, while withdrawal with the scale of morality and ethics. The overall rate of professional burnout is associated with hard work and deferred gratification as well as with the overall result in the field of work ethic. Deferred gratification and compassion turned out to be significant predictors of professional burnout. Deferred gratification is at the same time an important predictor of exhaustion.

Opis:
Chamaedaphne calyculata is rare and endangerded species of Polish flora. The genetic variation within and among ten polish population of leatherleaf was analysed by ISSR and ISJ markers. The analysis revealed a total of 160loci with an average of 13.3 bands per primer. We expected a low level of genetic diversity of this narrowly distributed species in Poland, but our results indicate that Ch. calyculata revealed a high level of genetic diversity at species level (P=88.7%of polymorphic loci, AE=1.468, HE=0.290). At the population level, the variation of Ch. calyculata was significantly lower (P=27.6%, AE=1.140, HE=0.098). There was significant correlation between ecological properties (population size; number of flowering ramets) and genetic diversity parameters. Analysis of molecular variance showed that most of variation (62%) in Ch. calyculata occurred among population. Gene flow (Nm) between the ten studied populations, determined based on the GST index, was very low at 0.239. It indicated that the fragmentation and isolation of populations might result from specific evolutionary history of this plant and postglacial recolonization

Opis:
The mismatch between solar cell response and solar spectrum is one of the biggest challenges to achieve high efficiency in photovoltaic cells. There are a few different approaches to minimise this concern. One of them is the radiation conversion which may be due to three different processes, namely up-conversion, down conversion and down-shifting. In this paper the down-conversion process of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and layers with ZnO NPs in polymer (poly (methyl methacrylate)) (PMMA) matrix will be analysed. ZnO NPs are prone to act as down-converting or down-shifting agents, which absorb the UV radiation, which is not absorbed by the solar cell, and then re-emit light in the visible range, which is suited to the photovoltaic cell sensitivity. Herein, the photoluminescence and optical transmittance of ZnO NPs and layers based on ZnO NPs will be presented. These parameters have a large influence on the potential application of these layers in photovoltaic structures for increased efficiency. The conversion layers have to fulfil the following conditions: have good optical transmittance in the visible range and high luminescence efficiency in converting UV radiation into visible. The paper focuses on finding the balance between these parameters.
