Opis:
From the five senses that men have the sense of sight and touch, though seemingly the most acute, are limited when it comes to examining space and all phenomena that occur in it. Moreover, it is much more difficult to examine space through the sense hearing and it is almost impossible to taste it, even if it is humanized. Another human sense i.e. the sense of smell which enables us to recognize different scents may, due to its transitory and temporary nature, appear to be useless when it comes to examining space. Nonetheless, if we concentrate on all the scents that fill the space, they are frequently a more distinctive and prominent landmark than, for example, a building or a road. Therefore, it seems to be vital that the perspective of sociology of scent be adopted if we want to make a more in-depth analysis and interpretation of space dynamics. The scents that fill a chosen urban and suburban old industrial region are analysed and observed in this study. What are the scents that fill urban space? On the one hand there is the tempting scent of private space, which is filled with artificial perfumes and air fresheners. However, on the other hand there is the unpleasant and offensive odour from neglected backyards and outhouses; the odour coming from a local beer stand and an aromatic bouquet of cognac in a hotel bar; obnoxious odours emitted by mine slag heaps and the scent of the pine forest. We aim to show that a wide range of different smells, ranging from delicate and lovely scents to offensive and foul odours, have a growing influence on fragmentation and privatization of urban space.

Opis:
More and more frequently a notion of space ghettoization is used to describe a phenomenon of dividing urban space into various enclaves of social life-or socially isolated worlds. Ghettoization that we describe results from various social processes which are increasingly reflected in urban space. It results from differences in the economic standard of inhabitants of given areas (riches–poverty) There is one more criterion, very important if we view the case from a profoundly humanistic perspective-the criterion of social emotions accompanying urban space. This justifies the title of this article. Today’s ghettoes may result from relatively automatic choices (lifestyles) and relatively objective processes-marginalization. We will try to make a general outline of the problems of ghettoization in a traditional industrial region, namely in Upper Silesia, related to diversification of income as well as the aesthetic and architectonic and urban criteria.

Opis:
Hydrogen internal combustion engines (HICE) are presently the subject of numerous R&D projects. For hydrogen fuelling mainly, spark-ignition engines are adapted but it is also possible to adjust self-ignition engines. Self-ignition engines may be fuelled only with dual-fuels and usually demonstrate an oversized level of compression ratio requiring reduction because of engine knocking, whereas spark-ignition engines – on the contrary feature an undersized level of compression ratio that needs to be increased to ensure an effective combustion process. Hydrogen may be used also for gasoline dual-fuel engines. Hydrogen utilization as diesel engine fuel should be considered depending on the type of diesel cycle: 1.The use of hydrogen alone or as an addition to gasoline or LPG and methane in spark-ignition engines; 2.The use of hydrogen as an addition to diesel oil in self-ignition engines. In the paper are presented the review of the literature on the use only of hydrogen as a fuel or only of the additionof hydrogen to hydrocarbon fuels in engines with spark ignition and diesel. Have been studied combustion process, generation of heat and power, and efficiency of the engine. Have been evaluated opportunities to reduce harmful emissions. Have been evaluated possibilities of using hydrogen as a fuel for both type of engines. In the paper are presented the review use hydrogen as a fuel for vehicles with fuel cells too.

Opis:
An initial assessment of the effectiveness of cast iron inoculation, performed by the method of impulse introducing the master alloy into cast iron, is presented. The experiment was concerned with the hypoeutectic gray cast iron inoculated with either the Alinoc or the Barinoc master alloy by means of an experimental device for pneumatic transportation. Examinations involved pneumatic injection of the powdered inoculant carried in a stream of gaseous medium (argon) into the metal bath held in the crucible of an induction furnace. It was found that the examined process is characterised by both high effectiveness and stability.

Forced aeration of old landfills by an in situ method causes enhanced reduction of leachate indices organic load, a decrease of greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere and waste stabilization. The aim of the research was an experimental simulation of aerobic stabilization on landfills carried out under different conditions of leachate recirculation in lysimeters. The results were used in balancing and the kinetic analysis of the organic substance degradation.

Opis:
The article presents a comparative study of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and the mass and number of particulate of diesel engine fuelled with diesel and B100. B100 is a biofuel produced from vegetable oils for vehicles with compression-ignition engines. B100 fuel and diesel have similar physical-chemical characteristics which have been analyzed. The research was carried out on an engine dynamometer in four cycles: ESC, ETC, WHSC and WHTC. The article provides an analysis of the research results, preceded by a discussion of the test cycles used.

This paper discusses briefly the production technology of dimethyl ether, taking into account plant raw materials and the physical and chemical properties of DME as compared to diesel fuel. The benefits and disadvantages of DME as a fuel are presented and changes in the emission of harmful substances characterised as compared to the combustion of diesel fuel. Also, basic usage problems are addressed, e.g. the wear of engine’s elements, cavity and leakages in the fuel system.
