    The aim of this paper is to present the multidimensional characteristics of the feature number 4 at the site in Wilczyce located on the Sandomierz Upland. During exploration of the pit rich flint material, fragments of pottery vessels and animal bones were found and just above the bottom a “deposit” involved a human skull of the young female, two cattle mandibles, a sheep/goat tibia and astragalus, a damaged cattle scapula and radius, and a polishing stone were deposited. The C14 date obtained from the tooth from the cattle jaw was 3790 ± 35 BP. Based on the shape and the size of discovered feature it is possible to classify it as a typical storage pit but presence of “deposit” enable to postulate a ritual character of assemblage that reflect some kind of burial practices of the Mierzanowice culture. Rituals in the form of interring the dead or parts of their bodies can be found also in the Unietice culture so such features may indicate the emergence of a certain supra-regional and cross-cultural trend in the early Bronze Age

    Opis:
    This is another from the series of papers discussing studies on saturation diving technology and its use in Poland. This part explains the specificities of the Polish context and achievements against the backdrop of economic and historical circumstances. It describes how the central base for saturation diving came into being in the times of economic collapse in the country. At that time, the shipbuilding industry was the driving force behind research on saturation diving as a cornerstone for building a framework for diving systems to be exported to other countries to secure the extraction of assets from the sea shelf. The paper introduces the readers to the efforts of animators and protagonists of that period of underwater research in Poland whose achievements are continued until to-date. The second part of the paper shows how the Polish system of saturation diving was created. The article also considers the technical and organisational aspects of the first saturation diving experiences and the history of the Polish method of decompression for saturation diving. To accomplish this difficult task, it was crucial to ensure a solid industrial and academic base working for the defence sector and assisted by relevant state agencies. A multiannual CPBR programme was also set up with measures 9.2 and 9.5 dealing with medicine and technology which resulted in the development of a diving system with its organization, medical support and reliable technology. Outcomes of this programme are still being implemented today. Despite progress made in medicine, technology, and organisation issues involved in saturation diving are still pertinent because independently of their complexity and high cost this type of diving is the most efficient and allows for very deep diving operations up to 400-500 m.
    Artykuł jest kolejnym z cyklu artykułów dotyczących badań i wdrożenia technologii nurkowań saturowanych w naszym kraju. W tej części przedstawiono polską specyfikę i osiągniecia na tle uwarunkowań gospodarczych i historycznych. Opisuje on tworzenie bazy do nurkowań saturowanych na tle zapaści gospodarczej w naszym kraju. W tym okresie przemysł stoczniowy był napędem badań nurkowań saturowanych jako podstawy do budowy systemów nurkowych, które miały być przedmiotem eksportu dla zabezpieczenia wydobycia bogactw szelfu morskiego. Pokazano w poniższym artykule wysiłek animatorów i bohaterów tego okresu badań podwodnych w naszym kraju, których dzieło jest kontynuowane do dnia dzisiejszego. W II części artykułu autorzy pokazują jak tworzono polski system nurkowań saturowanych. W artykule uwzględnia się również uwarunkowania techniczne i organizacyjne realizacji pierwszych nurkowań saturowanych i historię powstawania polskiej metody dekompresji dla nurkowań saturowanych. W tym trudnym zadaniu kluczową rolę stanowiło utworzenie bazy przemysłu i nauki pracującej na rzecz obronności wspieranej przez właściwe agendy państwa. Utworzono też wieloletni program CPBR cele 9.2.i 9.5. badań medycyny i techniki, którego wynikiem było zbudowanie systemu nurkowego z jego organizacją, zabezpieczeniem medycznym i niezwodną techniką. Owoce tego programu są wdrażane do dnia dzisiejszego. Mimo postępu w dziedzinie medycyny i techniki oraz organizacji, problemy nurkowań saturowanych są wciąż aktualne, gdyż mimo ich skomplikowania i wysokich kosztów są to nurkowania najbardziej efektywne i pozwalające na przeprowadzanie bardzo głębokiego nurkowania operacyjnego, aktualnie aż do 400-500m.

This part discusses Polish specificities and achievements against the background of economic and historical context. It describes the creation of the base for saturation diving in the times of economic hardship in our country. Over this period, the shipbuilding industry was driving saturation diving research as a basis for the construction of diving systems to be exported to secure the extraction of the resources from the sea shelf. This paper describes the efforts of the animators and protagonists of underwater research in our country, whose work is continued to this day. In its second part the author shows how the Polish system of saturation diving was created. The article also considers the technical and organisational conditions in which the first saturation dives took place and the history of the development of the Polish decompression method for saturation diving. A key role in this difficult task was played by the creation of a base for this industry and research potential, assisted by the relevant state agencies, dedicated for the defence sector. A multiannual National Research and Development Plan (Polish abbr. CPBR) was set up with objectives 9.2 and 9.5 focused on medical and technical research resulting in the development of a diving system with its organisational framework, medical safety solutions, and reliable technology. The outcomes of this programme are still being implemented today. Despite advances in the medical and technical fields as well as organisation, the problems of saturation diving are still pertinent because, regardless of its complexity and high cost, this is the most efficient diving format that allows for very deep diving operations, currently up to 400-500m.
