Opis:
Theory of non-local continuum is contemporary appraised and is found to be supplementary coherent to capture the impacts of each and every point of the material at its single point. The conviction of memory dependent derivative is also newly appraised and is observed to be more intuitionistic for predicting the realistic character of the real-world obstacles. Attractiveness of the belief of a memory dependent derivative lies in its unique properties such as its significant constituents – a kernel function and time-delay are freely selected according to the requirement of a problem. The present study comprises a new meticulous thermoelastic heat conduction model for the homogeneous, isotropic, thermoelastic half space medium concerning memory effects and non-local effects. Governing equations are constructed on the basis of the newly appraised non-local generalized theory of thermoelasticity with two phase lags in the frame of a memory dependent derivative. Exact analytical solutions of the physical fields such as dimensionless temperature, displacement as well as thermal stress are evaluated by using a suitable technique of the Laplace transform. Quantitative results are determined in a time-domain for different values of time by taking the numerical inversion of the Laplace transform. Noteworthy role of the constituents of the memory dependent derivative such as kernel function as well as time-delay factor has been scrutinized on the crucial field variables of the medium through computational outcomes. Moreover, the impact of non-local parameter is examined on the variations of field quantities through the quantitative results.

Opis:
The K3M thinning algorithm is a general method for image data reduction by skeletonization. It had proved its feasibility in most cases as a reliable and robust solution in typical applications of thinning, particularly in preprocessing for optical character recognition. However, the algorithm had still some weak points. Since then K3M has been revised, addressing the best known drawbacks. This paper presents a modified version of the algorithm. A comparison is made with the original one and two other thinning approaches. The proposed modification, among other things, solves the main drawback of K3M, namely, the results of thinning an image after rotation with various angles.

Opis:
The present study was designed to establish a qualitative detection method based on conventional and real time PCR assay to screen the commonly grown rice varieties for the presence of the cry1Ac gene. The detection of genetically modified rice in the screening process would necessitate accurate assay development and precise qualitative PCR tests complying with established procedures for the detection and characterization of transgenes in food grains. Such assay would not only enable the monitoring of transgene flow in local agricultural environment but also the characterization of different plant species produced with this transgene and its regulatory components. Thus, a reliable and quick screening assay was established for the qualitative detection of the transgene along with the promoter and selectable marker gene in genetically modified rice. By conventional PCR, a fragment of 215 bp was amplified with gene specific primers of cry1Ac. Primers for other transgenes such as gna and bar were also employed; however, no amplification was detected. The presence of the p35s, sps, and nptII genes was confirmed by qualitative real-time PCR. The specificity of the respective PCR products was checked through melt peak curve analysis. Sharp and precise melting temperatures indicated the presence of a single kind of PCR product in correspondence to each of the primers used. Moreover, the copy number of cry1Ac was estimated by ΔΔCT method. It is proposed that the primer sets and experimental conditions used in this study will be sufficient to meet the requirements for molecular detection and characterization of the cry1Ac transgene and affiliated sequences in sorting out conventional rice varieties from the ones which are genetically modified. It will also help to monitor the ecological flow of these transgenes and other biosafety factors.

Opis:
The concept of different compositional biomass is introduced to enhance the binding properties and utilize the use of different seasonal biomasses. The effect of densification on the heating values of single pure and mixed compositional biomasses is observed with and without applying special type of pretreatment named as ‘Torrefaction’. The moisture contents and bulk densities were also calculated for these briquettes. The effects of average moisture contents and bulk density (which show the swelling nature) on the heating values are also observed. The experiments have been performed on the pelletizer equipment to form briquetted biomass and bomb calorimeter was used to determine the calorific values of different briquettes. Finally, the percentage decrease in the average moisture contents of different categories of torrefied briquettes from non-torrefied briquettes were also calculated and compared.

Opis:
This study presents the behavior of a single wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT)/water nanofluid for convective laminar flow inside a straight circular pipe heated by a constant heat flux. Five volume fractions of SWCNT were used to investigate their effect on the heat transfer coefficient, Nusselt number, temperature distribution and velocity field in comparison with pure water flow. One model for each property was tested to calculate the effective thermal conductivity, effective dynamic viscosity, and effective specific heat of the SWCNT/water mixture. The models were extracted from experimental data of a previous work. The outcomes indicate that the rheological behavior of SWCNT introduces a special effect on the SWCNT/water properties, which vary with SWCNT volume fraction. The results show an improvement in the heat transfer coefficient with increasing volume fraction of nanoparticles. The velocity of SWCNT/water nanofluid increased by adding SWCNT nanoparticles, and the maximum increase was registered at 0.05% SWCNT volume fraction. The mixture temperature is increased with the axial distance of the pipe but a reduction in temperature distribution is observed with the increasing SWCNT volume fraction, which reflects the effect of thermophysical properties of the mixture.

Opis:
Members of Enterobacteriaceae are known to produce extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) which hydrolyze the beta-lactam group of antibiotics. The existence of ESBL-producing Salmonella enterica (S. enterica) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) harbored by urban avifauna was investigated in this study. Dropping samples (n= 180) were collected from six different bird species in the district Jhang, Punjab province, Pakistan. Isolation and identification of ESBL isolates were made by using cefotaxime- (4 mg/L) supplemented MacConkey agar and double disc synergy test (DDST). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed for the detection of four different ESBL genes including bla CTX-M, bla TEM, bla SHV and bla OXA. A total of 42.69% isolates were confirmed as ESBL via DDST including 30.64% S. enterica and 49.54% E. coli. The incidence of ESBL S. enterica and ESBL E. coli was found highest in egret (Ardea alba) and pigeon (Columba livia) as 64.28% and 78.95%, respectively. The bla CTX-M gene was detected in 57.89% and 64.81% of isolates of S. enterica and E. coli, respectively. Among other genes in S. enterica and E. coli, bla TEM (21.05%, 20.4%); bla SHV (15.78%, 9.26%), and bla OXA (5.26%, 5.56%) were detected, respectively. All of the tested isolates were found resistant to at least one of the thirteen antimicrobial agents except meropenem. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study reporting the incidence and genetic diversity of ESBL bacteria associated with urban avifauna in Pakistan. The urban avifauna can serve as a potential subject of bio-surveillance to monitor the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria.

Opis:
Early maturing peach (Prunus persica) cultivars can fetch good market value but face a lot of post-harvest problems that lead to the post-harvest losses. The 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) can provide new insights into plant ethylene responses and extend the shelf life and quality of fruits. Therefore, fruits of peach cultivar ‘Early Grand’ were dipped in various concentrations of 1-MCP (0, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 µg l–1), stored for 40 days at 8 ±2°C with 50% relative humidity and analyzed the fruits for physicochemical attributes at 10 days interval. The highest concentration of 1-MCP at 0.9 µg l–1 significantly improved the activity of antioxidants, catalase, free radical scavenging assay and total phenols. However, the peach fruits treated with 1MCP at 0.6 µgL–1 was effective in retaining the ascorbic acid, lowering the weight loss and fruit decay. Therefore, peach fruits can be treated with 1-MCP (0.6 µg l–1) solution for prolonging its shelf life up to 40 days under low temperature.
