Opis:
At present, social media are connected with education. Both influence daily life and studying since they impact formal and informal relations. This study explores the role of social media in task performance. Based on Mackworth’s clock test, we experimented with university students (N=54), which assessed their capacity to concentrate on the task when exposed to notifications from social networking. We explored whether the appearance of social media notifications regarding different stimulus properties (i.e., sound and vision) lowered cognitive resource capacity to concentrate on the main task. The findings revealed that the mere presence of notifications affected task performance. However, the focal relationship was more complex.

Opis:
Clostridium difficile is a Gram-positive, anaerobic rod-shaped bacterium, which is a primary cause of nosocomial diarrhoea. The rising incidence of antibiotic resistance in pathogens such as C. difficile makes the new antibacterial natural products research very important and necessary to conduct. It has been observed that propolis has bactericidal effects. Propolis is a natural resinous product that is manufactured by honeybees (Apis mellifera). The antimicrobial activity of propolis is an important biological property. In spite of the large composition differences of the propolis types, all of them have antimicrobial activity. Twenty strains of the C.difficile belonging to four prominent PCR-ribotypes (RT) (RT017, RT023, RT027, and RT046) were used in research. MBC value were determined by broth dilution method. Propolis samples were obtained from honey bees farm in lubelskie woyevodship. Bactericidal effect of the propolis on C.difficile strains was observed at its concentration of  39 mg/ml.

Opis:
An averaging tank with variable filling is a nonlinear multidimensional system and can thus be considered a complex control system. General control objectives of such object include ensuring stability, zero steady-state error, and achieving simultaneously shortest possible settling time and minimal overshoot. The main purpose of this research work was the modeling and synthesis of three control systems for an averaging tank. In order to achieve the intended purpose, in the first step, a mathematical model of the control system was derived. The model was adapted to the form required to design two out of three planned control systems by linearization and reduction of its dimensions, resulting in two system variants. A multivariable proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control system for the averaging tank was developed using optimization for tuning PID controllers. State feedback and output feedback with an integral action control system for the considered control system was designed using a linear-quadratic regulator (LQR) and optimization of weights. A fuzzy control system was designed using the Mamdani inference system. The developed control systems were tested using theMATLAB environment. Finally, the simulation results for each control algorithm (and their variants) were compared and their performance was assessed, as well as the effects of optimization in the case of PID and integral control (IC) systems.

Opis:
Research background: The ongoing digitisation process in the banking sector, coupled with widespread remote provision of services, is leading to the advent of new solutions in the field of broadly understood security. The increasingly sophisticated forms of attacks on banks? IT systems and their users have engendered the need to implement authentication methods that would ensure high security levels, but would also be convenient for banks' clients and suited to the requirements of mass service. Biometric technology seems to be a solution to this issue. The two factors that may boost its proliferation are: the fact that banks need to adjust to more rigid regulations, and technological advancements leading to cost reduction and increased availability of biometric solutions in mobile devices. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to assess the prospects for the application of biometrics by the banking sector in Poland in individual customer service channels. Methods: The basis for theoretical considerations comprises the analysis of literature on authentication techniques and research on the processes whereby consumers accept new technologies. The empirical part of the paper was based on the results of the authors? questionnaire survey among representatives of the Polish banking sector. Findings & value added: The banking sector in Poland is on the verge of a sweeping bio-metric revolution in the coming years, because most traditional identity verification and authorisation methods currently available in banking do not comply with strict security and user convenience requirements and RTS regulations. Biometric technologies will be of use in all customer service channels, with the experts indicating authentication in bank branches, ATMs, and mobile banking as the primary implementation areas. Solutions which are most likely to be applied are those based on biometrics of fingerprints and finger veins, as well as voice biometrics.
