Upper Silesian ore district
Opis:
A new association of ore minerals has been found in the Lower and Middle Triassic rocks in the vicinity of the village of Woźniki in the NW part of the Upper Silesian district. In addition to the typical Zn-Pb-Fe association in dolomites, copper sulphides have been detected in the sandstones and conglomerates of the Lower Bunter. Copper mineralization occurs in the sandstone matrix and is represented by bornite, chalcopyrite, chalcocite, tetrahedrite and covellite. High admixtures of zinc in Cu sulphides and admixtures of copper in Zn-Pb sulphides suggest a common source for the metal-transporting fluids and a single period of sulphide crystallization.

Opis:
The Lower Permian Walchia shale of the Intrasudetic Basin is lacustrine sediment enriched in organic matter and base metals. Rock-Eval geochemical analysis was conducted on 110 drill-core rock samples of the Walchia shale in order to characterize the quantity, genetic type and maturity of dispersed organic matter. Concentrations of U, Th, Cu, Ni, V, Pb, Zn, Co, Mo, Cr, P, S and Fe were determined and microscopic studies to recognize mineral composition were performed on selected samples. Organic matter of the Walchia shale is immature and dominated by terrestrial type III kerogen with an admixture of planktonic type II kerogen. The Walchia shale is generally poor source rock, but some parts of the profile exhibit good and even excellent hydrocarbon potential. The average concentrations of analysed metals are higher than the average reported for black shales. The concentrations of base metals do not correlate with TOC contents, suggesting that their presence is associated with inorganic features of the Walchia shale or they could have been related primarily to organic matter which was subsequently oxidized and altered. Uranium may be partly associated with phosphates. Results of microscopic investigations revealed the lack of detectable radioactive minerals, abundance of framboidal pyrite, and prevalent galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite.

Opis:
Since 50 years copper-silver ores have been extracted from the Lubin-Sieroszowice deposit located on the border between the Lower and Upper Permian sediments. It is a world class stratoidal type deposit. In the whole world the Kupferschiefer unit is recognized as a black, clayey organic-rich shale. The Cu-Ag deposit is a part of the Fore-Sudetic Monocline, and is located on the border of the Lower and Upper Permian strata The monocline includes three rock complexes. The first is the basement, which comprises Proterozoic crystalline rocks and Carboniferous sediments. It is overlain by monoclinally dipping Permian and Triassic sedimentary rocks. In this work, study on ore mineralisation of the red variety of the Kupferschiefer are presented. Oxidation of the Kupferschiefer as an epigenetic phenomena. The oxidized zones reveal low concentrations of simple copper sulphides with the dominating chalcopyrite accompanied by bornite, pyrite, covellite, galena, clausthalite, chalcocite, digenite, spioncopite, geerite, native Au, electrum, tetraauricupride, naumannite, native Pb, Pd-arsenides and minerals of mixed composition: Au-Ag-Pb-Bi-Se-Te, Au-Ag-Pb-Te, Bi-Cu, Bi-Pd and Pd-As-O. Most important are natural alloys of precious metals, Pd-arsenides and oxidized phases (mostly Pd ones), which strongly influence the effectiveness of froth flotation. Precious metals form several parageneses: i - clausthalite - native Pb - electrum - AuPb2, ii - Pt-native Au - native Pd - sobolevskite - native Pb, iii - native Au - haematite - bornite - minerals of covellite-chalcocite group, iiii - electrum - tetraauricupride - chalcocite, iiiii - electrum - Pd-arsenides - tellurides - selenides - BiPd and CuBi natural alloys - Pd-oxides. The red Kupferschiefer variety is distinctly lower in carbonates and resembles rather a marl. Average Fe2O3 content is about 5 times higher than that in the grey Kupferschiefer. The average TOC content in the red Kupferschiefer is about 10 times lower than that in the black Kupferschiefer and about 5 times lower than that in the grey Kupferschiefer. Average Cu content is 1,070 ppm at variability coefficient 81% . The grey Kupferschiefer contains 3 times higher contents of Cu and its variability coefficient is 2 times higher, which points out to quantitative changes during the leaching of copper when secondary oxidation of deposit proceeded. Thus, low Cu and TOC values can be indicative for oxidizing environment and, consequently, can be good exploration guides to zones enriched in precious metals. Average Au content in the red Kupferschiefer is high 15.419 ppm, is much higher than that for the grey Kupferschiefer. Comparison of metal contents in samples from the oxidized zones reveal high variability of Au values in the red, which may change from a few ppm to over 100 ppm. Negative Cu-Au correlation supports the hypothesis on the introduction of gold into the red Kupferschiefer during the leaching of copper. Au horizon is continuous and located close to the bottom contour of Cu deposit. It includes the top part of the sandstone and extends down, even beneath 1 m from the top of the sandstone. The average thickness of the high-Au zones is 0.2 m, and various from 0 up to 1.4 meters. The Au and PGE deposit described in this paper fit well in the world criteria for economic-grade accumulations.

Opis:
The paper investigates the application of active thermography for nondestructive testing of welded joints. Two measurements techniques are considered: laser spot thermography and vibrothermography. Experiments were performed on a welded carbon steel plate with welding defects. Laser spot thermography was used to reveal welding defects and vibrothermography was used to provide reference results. Both methods proved to be very effective and their results were found comparable. In addition, the paper presents a semi-automatic image processing algorithm used to facilitate laser spot thermography tests. The algorithm combines multiple thermographic sequences captured during the test and allows for automated damage features extraction. The algorithm allows to significantly reduce the post processing time and gives a clear information on the damage state of a material. The paper discusses the operational principles and measurement setup of both nondestructive testing methods.

Opis:
The axisymmetric problem of acoustic impedance of a vibrating annular piston embedded into a flat rigid baffle concentrically around a semi-infinite rigid cylindrical circular baffle has been undertaken in this study. The Helmholtz equation has been solved. The Green’s function valid for the zone considered has been used for this purpose. The influence of the semi-infinite cylindrical baffle on the piston’s acoustic impedance has been investigated. The acoustic impedance has been presented in both forms: integral and asymptotic, both valid for the steady harmonic vibrations. Additionally, the acoustic impedances of the piston with and without the cylindrical baffle have been compared to one another. In the case without the cylindrical baffle some earlier results have been used.

Opis:
The paper presents an application of laser spot thermography for damage detection in ceramic samples with surface breaking cracks. The measurement technique is an active thermographic approach based on an external heat delivery to a test sample, by means of a laser pulse, and signal acquisition by an infrared camera. Damage detection is based on the analysis of surface temperature distribution near the exciting laser spot. The technique is nondestructive, non-contact and allows for full-field measurements. Surface breaking cracks are a very common type of damage in ceramic materials that are introduced in the manufacturing process or during the service period. This paper briefly discusses theoretical background of laser spot thermography, describes the experimental test rig and signal processing methods involved. Damage detection results obtained with laser spot thermography are compared with reference measurements obtained with vibrothermography. This is a different modality of active thermography, that has been previously proven effective for this type of damage. We demonstrate that both measurement techniques can be effectively used for damage detection and quality control applications of ceramic materials.
