Opis:
In the XXI century, magnetic measurements are widely used in many diverse applications. In this paper, we present the practical application of magnetic measurements in the Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS) on board military aircraft . We start with the research problem and proposed solutions (idea). Next, the theoretical basis of the helmet’s system operation are described. Herein, we include the characteristics of the Earth’s magnetic fi eld and the modeling of this (WMM 2015, IGRF 12, EMM2017), as well as the theory of magnetic fi eld distribution as generated in fl at coils, Helmholtz coils and anti-Helmholtz coils. In the later detailed part, we describe the metrological aspects of HMCS applications and the characteristics therein of diff erent magnetometers used in the tests, plus example test results. Finally, we describe ongoing research, while in the summary, we present further research possibilities and potential directions of research in the avionic implementation of magnetic phenomena in HMCS systems.

Opis:
What has been presented in the paper is a research/testing tool used in the Air F orce Institute of Technology (Instytut Techniczny Wojsk Lotniczych - ITWL) to build, actuate, test, and optimise integrated communication systems as far as both a set of devices the system is composed of and the applied software are concerned. Particular attention has been paid to the so-called integration station (built under the Mi-8, Mi-17, Mi-24 upgrade project), i.e. the laboratory equipment to optimise and unify communication systems integrated on the basis of digital data buses (following the MIL-1553B standard, among other ones). Such equipment has allowed ITWL to integrate new communication devices/systems while upgrading the W-3PL helicopter. Some selected tasks performed with this equipment engagedhave been discussed. Also, problems arising while actuating and testing the developed software to integrate communication devices/systems (including digitally controlled radio stations of the RRC, HARRIS, and MR6000 types, communication control panels of the PSL-1 type and multi-function displays of the MW-l type) have been given consideration in the scope of the software functionality and reliability. Presented are also additional monitoring and measuring systems used to test this software, just to mention the M230 rugged laptop computer used to diagnose the system and prepare plans of the radio communication.

Opis:
The article presents selected results of the analytical works, carried out in the Air Force Institute of Technology, in the field of possibilities to support the pilot’s work in the cabin of the modern multi-task aircraft or military helicopter with the use of the computer voice communication assistant, with automatic recognition of the pilot’s voice and speech, which operates in conditions of the lack of time. There are presented the voice systems warning the pilot of the occurrence of an emergency state, as the so-called voice guides, P-591-04 type, used in the MiG-29 multipurpose aircraft and RI-65 type, used in the Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters. As an example of implementation of the concept of a new system supporting the pilot’s work, there was selected the voice communication system, constructed in the Air Force Institute of Technology for the W-3PL multi-purpose helicopter with the ZSA integrated avionics system. The main research problems related to the construction of integrated avionics systems, verbally supporting the pilot’s work, were discussed, and the specialized tools and research stations used in the Air Force Institute of Technology for the phonoscopic speech and voice studies, were presented. Furthermore, an example of the functional diagram and the system architecture of the pilot’s work verbal supporting for a selected emergency situation on the aircraft board were demonstrated, as well as the expected range of that system’s applications.

Opis:
The article presents selected results of the analytical work carried out in the Air Force Institute of Technology in the field of information visualization capabilities of helmet-mounted guidance and navigation in fighter aircraft MiG- 29. There is presented the SzCz-3UM headset system of target’s indication, currently used on-board of MiG-29, which is directly cooperating with the pilot during the combat flight. There was presented that the information from the onboard systems of this aircraft containing analogue devices must be computer-processed into digital form in order to present flight data in the helmet-mounted display system. However, MiG-29 aircraft, used in the Polish Air Force, are equipped with modern digital avionics (integrated avionics system) based on the MIL-1553B digital data buses, which gives the possibility of the new helmet-mounted imaging of flight parameters via the computer data processing from aircraft’s devices and on-board installations. To develop guidelines for the construction of the helmet-mounted system for the MiG-29, the SWPL-1 Cyklop flight data-displaying system was adopted (system developed in the Air Force Institute of Technology as avionics system modernization for Mi-17 military helicopters). There are discussed the main problems of scientific and specialist research positions used in the Air Force Institute of Technology to assess the accuracy of the selected equipment components of avionics systems and determine credibility of information provided to the pilot during the flight.

Opis:
This paper presents the basic principles of SAR (Search and Rescue) and CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) missions, with the SAR support systems installed on-board Polish and German military helicopters presented in more detail. Mi8/17 and W3PL “Głuszec” helicopters with an integrated avionics system (designed and constructed in the Air Force Institute of Technology) used in combination with an on-board weaponry system are designed to undertake CSAR missions. A TOPLITE observation-targeting head (with TV and FLIR thermal cameras, for day and night operation respectively) and a RSC125G on-board radio direction finder were used to search for survivors. The weaponry system of the W3PL “Głuszec” helicopter is involved in supporting CSAR search-rescue tasks, e.g. functions of targeting with the use of a Head-Up Display (HUD) (through the integrated ballistic computer) and imaging with the use of a TOPLITE head monitor.

Opis:
The paper presents selected results of analytical and construction works executed at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in the context of possibilities of supporting the actions of a helicopter crew, i.e., pilot-crew commander, pilot-operator of on-board systems, and on-board technician participating in aviation/maritime search and rescue missions. Such support is based on using the helmet-mounted display systems SWPL1 “Cyklop” and NSC1 “Orion” for information from the observation-targeting heads and verbal communication with the survivor. Selected imaging and verbal communication devices installed on aircraft operated by the Polish Armed Forces, which are used in aviation/maritime search and rescue actions, are discussed. Particular attention is drawn to the problems associated with the integrated avionics systems of helmet-mounted imaging of piloting-navigation parameters and the helmet-mounted imaging of information from the observation-targeting heads, i.e., the on-board radio direction finder system and emergency radio, which are part of the integrated communication system. Sample structural solutions for such systems and the possibilities of their application in search and rescue missions are presented.

Opis:
Specifically, it was tested whether the presence of O2 in the headspace modified the sequence and preference of electron acceptor use under hypoxic conditions after prolonged drought in arable soils. This laboratory study was conducted in order to examine the use of electron acceptors: oxygen (O2), nitrate (NO3¯) and nitrous oxide (N2O), during aerobic and anaerobic respiration (denitrification). Agricultural soils (Typic Dystrudepts) classified as sandy, silty and loamy soils from arable top soils (0-30 cm) were used in the study. The change of oxidation states of different chemical species in the soil affected the use of electron acceptors during denitrification. The use of O2, NO3¯ and net N2O use was gradual and differed greatly among the soils. Furthermore, microorganisms were shown to be able to use all three investigated electron acceptors simultaneously, but with clearly visible preferences. The rate of electron acceptor use per day differentiated the investigated soils into a few different groups. Overall, the results of this study indicated that N2O was a more preferable electron acceptor than NO3¯ when O2 was present in the headspace for the most investigated soils. Moreover, a correlation existed between the final electron acceptor use and particle-size distribution and the native organic C content (Corg). The rate of electron acceptor use per day calculated for O2, NO3¯ and N2O may provide very important information for distinguishing the preference of electron acceptor use during aerobic and nitrate respiration in agroecosystems under hypoxic conditions after prolonged drought for different kinds of electron acceptor.
