Opis:
For proper operation, diagnostics or control, it is required to know the parameters of the supercapacitor replacement model (relationship between current and voltage at the terminals). The paper describe the bahavior of the eletrical circuit (RC) containing the supercapacitor were used the fractional derivatives of Caputo definiton and Conformable Fractional Derivative definition. Verification of the correctness of the suggested electrical circuit models was carried out a series of measurements of the system response to the given control signal. The measurement data were compared by fractionalorder derivatives: classical case, Caputo definition and CFD definition. Conducting a series of experiments with charging a supercapacitor in an RC circuit, constant control voltage from 2 V to 5 V with an exchanged external resistor, it was shown that none of the three mathematical models reflects the real behavior of the supercapacitor. It has been shown that the behavior of supercapacitor requires the use of different mathematical than fractional derivatives.

The aim of the paper is to present the main trends within philosophy in Norway. The author also discusses the most important research works carried out at university centres, the goal of which is to analyse Norwegian post-war philosophy. The predominant movement, so called ‘practical philosophy’, deals with ethical, religious, political, social and economic issues. Many Norwegian philosophers are also active as university teachers or researchers at universities in Oslo (e.g. Arne Naess, Hans Skjervheim, Trond Berg Eriksen, Torstein Tollefsen, Anfinn Stigen) and in Bergen (e.g. Gunnar Skirbekk, Nils Gilje, Vigdis Songe-Møller, Knut Erik Tranøy)

This paper presents the fractional electrical circuit in the transient state described by the fractional-order state-space equations. General solutions to the fractional state-space equations containing two types of definitions of fractional derivative: Caputo definition and the conformable fractional derivative definition are given the solutions in the case of: 1) control in the form of sine function at zero initial states 2) control in the form of cosine function at zero initial states 3) control in the form of the sine function with phase shift at zero initial states. The solutions are shown for capacitor voltages for fractional derivative orders of 0.7; 0.8; 1.0. The results were compared using graphs.

The aim of the study was to investigate rail vehicle dynamics under primary suspension dampers faults and explore possibility of its detection by means of artificial neural networks. For these purposes two types of analysis were carried out: preliminary analysis of 1 DOF rail vehicle model and a second one - a passenger coach benchmark model was tested in multibody simulation software - MSC.Adams with use of VI-Rail package. Acceleration signals obtained from the latter analysis served as an input data into the artificial neural network (ANN). ANNs of different number of hidden layers were capable of detecting faults for the trained suspension fault cases, however, achieved accuracy was below 63% at the best. These results can be considered satisfactory considering the complexity of dynamic phenomena occurring in the vibration system of a rail vehicle.

Opis:
Objectives. Recent epidemiological studies suggested an association between a poor vitamin D [25(OH)D] status, inflammatory mediators, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We have recently proposed that pro-inflammatory interleukin 6 (IL-6) may represent a good marker for disease activity of RA. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between serum 25(OH)D levels and disease activity, joint damage, as well as serum IL-6 levels in a Polish RA population. Materials and Methods. Serum 25(OH)D levels were measured in 35 female RA patients and 38 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. Statistical correlations between 25(OH)D levels and the disease activity score 28 (DAS 28), joint damage based on the Steinbrocker criteria, as well as serum IL-6 levels were performed. Results. There was no statistically significant difference between levels of 25(OH)D in RA (16.89±8.57 ng/ml) and healthy controls (14.12±7.51 ng/ml), and the vitamin D deficiency (<20 ng/ml) was found in 71.43% of RA patients and 73.68 % of healthy controls. While vitamin D status did not correlate with DAS 28 (r=0.265, p=0.149) and joint damage based on the Steinbrocker criteria (r=0.367, p=0.065), a positive correlation between 25(OH)D and IL-6 (r=0.537, p=0.002) was observed in RA. Conclusion. Although further studies on a larger group of patients will be needed to confirm the data presented here, it seems that hypovitaminosis D is common in the RA patients and middle-aged non-RA healthy women in the Polish population. 25(OH)D levels were similar in the RA patients and age- and gender-matched healthy controls, and were not associated with joint damage and disease activity in patients.

Opis:
Flavonoids, polyphenolic compounds present in many food products, affect growth of different bacterial species when tested as purified or synthetic substances. They can also influence gene expression in human cells, like fibroblasts. Here, we asked if soy isoflavone extracts, commonly used in many products sold as anti-menopausal dietary supplements, influence bacterial growth similarly to a synthetic isoflavone, genistein. Four commercially available products were tested in amounts corresponding to genistein concentrations causing inhibition of growth of Vibrio harveyi (a model bacterium sensitive to this isoflavone) and Escherichia coli (a model bacterium resistant to genistein). Differential effects of various extracts on V. harveyi and E. coli growth, from stimulation, to no changes, to inhibition, were observed. Moreover, contrary to genistein, the tested extracts caused a decrease (to different extent) in viability of human dermal fibroblasts. These results indicate that effects of various soy isoflavone extracts on bacterial growth and viability of human cells are different, despite similar declared composition of the commercially available products.

Opis:
Introduction. The number of cyclists increases each year. Some people treat cycling as a passion and practice it at every possible occasion, while for others it is a mean of transport or a form of relaxation at the weekend. However, very few people realize that cycling can also have a negative impact on their health. Objective. To assess the prevalence of lower extremity and spine pain in cyclists, and evaluate the influence of various factors causing it. Materials and method. The study was performed on 167 subjects during amateur cycling competitions in the Greater Poland and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Provinces. A specially prepared questionnaire was used in the study. The questions related to the pain caused by cycling, the character and the localization of the pain, and the presence of warm-up and stretching. Results. Knee pain was reported in 40% of the study subjects (mostly anterior pain – 26%). Spine pain was reported in 41% of the studied athletes, where 26% was related with the lumbar spine. Variables, such as age, weight, age, BMI, training experience and number of hours devoted to training per week had no influence on the incidence and the localization of leg pain, but it had influence in the case of spine pain. Stretching after cycling was the factor which significantly distinguished the studied groups with regard to the incidence of knee pain. Conclusions. The most common type of leg pain was knee pain (anterior knee pain) whereas spine pain was most commonly reported in the lumbar spine. Statistical analysis showed that spine pain is more often reported by people who are older, have higher weight, and people who spend more time training per week. Warm-up and stretching after cycling are recommended to cyclists who experience pain.

Opis:
This article is a continuation of the authors’ study on the ways to ensure safety in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system. It directly refers to the processes of risk management involving, in particular, risk management in (air) transport. The mai aim of this paper is to present and indicate the hazard identification and risk assessment tools that can be used in air transport and to apply one of them for a risk analysis of a specific ATM originating case. This is why, after a short introduction, describing the background of the research as well as literature review, the risk management process as such is characterized. It is shown in a schematic way and its main components are identified. At the same time, from the entire management process, the risk assessment procedure is highlighted as its most crucial part. Then, general hazards identification techniques, risk analysis and assessment tools are described, with an indication that they can also be implemented in air transport, if compatible with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). In the following part, the process of risk assessment in air transport, based on the Safety Management Manual, using a safety risk tolerability matrix, is characterized. Finally, in this article, an exemplary risk analysis is carried out, focusing on a selected case arising from the ATM field. For the analysed case, safety risk hazards and their possible effects are identified and then assigned to the Intolerable, Tolerable and Acceptable regions. The entire paper is summarized and conclusions are drawn in relation to the publication’s main goal. Attention is also paid to the potential causes of appearance of hazards including, first of all, lack of adequate verification procedures, as well as people’s competence and last but not the least human errors, being the reason for 70-80% of unwanted transport accidents.

Opis:
ObjectivesThe aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of repeated Finnish sauna baths on the concentrations of nitric oxide metabolites (NOx) and 3-nitrotyrosine in relation to pro-oxidative and antioxidative status in young males with different physical activity levels.Material and MethodsThe study was performed on healthy males (aged 20–25 years), representing the training (T, N = 10) and non-training groups (NT, N = 10). The protocol included a series of 10 sauna baths during 3 weeks. One bath consisted of three 15-min sessions, with 2 min recovery. Before the first and the 10th treatment, measurements of body composition, blood pressure, rectal temperature, and plasma concentrations of the total pro-oxidative and antioxidative status, 3-nitrotyrosine and NOx were performed.ResultsA significant increase in physiological parameters during sauna treatments, as well as a significant decrease in the total antioxidative status before the 10th bath, were observed in both groups. The series of sauna baths caused a significant increase in the total antioxidative status in the T group, and a decrease in the total oxidative status in the NT group. A significant decrease in 3-nitrotyrosine in both groups before the last treatment, and also in the T group after the last treatment, was noted. In both groups, a significant increase in NOx concentrations was observed after the first bath.ConclusionsA series of sauna baths contributes to the improvement in the prooxidative/antioxidative balance. The increased production of nitric oxide may lead to a better vascular relaxation and blood flow.
