    For centuries, the period of war and peace was an essential stage in the development of the international order. Armed violence has been and continues to be an instrument of solving both internal and external problems. The nightmare of two world wars was an attempt to eliminate armed conflicts from the reality of international relations and the development of the idea of humanity. Over the centuries, effective legal and institutional arrangements have been sought to ensure the protection of the civilian population, which has been the subject of deliberate or accidental attacks. The current standards of international humanitarian law of armed conflicts allow for a certain degree of humanization of armed conflicts. However, there are known cases where these norms are not respected or even deliberately violated.     Introduction: The diagnostic process of bone tumors, including malignant ones, is based on conventional radiological methods, such as radiography and computed tomography, and with precise assessment of local advancement in magnetic resonance imaging. Ultrasonography is not included in the diagnostic algorithms as a tool suitable to detect this type of pathology. More and more frequent usage of musculoskeletal ultrasound in children as the first imaging method or, in some cases, as the only diagnostic method, makes it necessary to be familiar with sonographic presentation of bone tumors to suggest this diagnosis early enough and, after its verification, start treatment without a significant delay. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine changes in the sonographic image that might indicate a bone malignancy and suggest the need to extend the diagnostic process in this direction. Material and method: This article discusses 10 bone tumors in 9 children who had an ultrasound scan performed at the beginning of the diagnostic process before the histopathological diagnosis was established and treatment initiated. The assessment involved ultrasonographic features indicating the presence of a tumor. Results: In the group of 9 patients, 8 malignant bone tumors were diagnosed in ultrasonography and later verified histopathologically: 4 osteosarcomas and 4 Ewing’s sarcomas. In one case, two bone tumors were detected in ultrasonography without specification of their nature (malignant/ benign, primary/secondary). Conclusions: In the analyzed cases, ultrasonography enabled the correct diagnosis of a focal bone lesion, and in most cases (8/9) it presented an image that suggested its malignant nature and the necessity of further diagnosis and treatment.
    Wprowadzenie: Diagnostyka guzów kostnych – w tym guzów o charakterze złośliwym – opiera się na klasycznych metodach radiologicznych, takich jak zdjęcia radiologiczne i tomografia komputerowa, z dokładną oceną zaawansowania miejscowego w badaniu rezonansu magnetycznego. Badanie ultrasonograficzne nie jest ujmowane w algorytmach diagnostycznych jako metoda służąca wykrywaniu tego typu patologii. Coraz częstsze wykonywanie badań ultrasonograficznych układu mięśniowo-szkieletowego u dzieci jako pierwsza metoda obrazowania, a w wielu przypadkach jako jedyna metoda diagnostyczna powoduje potrzebę znajomości obrazów sonograficznych guzów kostnych, aby odpowiednio wcześnie zasugerować możliwość takiego rozpoznania, a po jego weryfikacji podjąć leczenie bez istotnego opóźnienia. Cel pracy: Celem pracy jest określenie zmian w obrazie sonograficznym mogących wskazywać na obecność złośliwego guza kostnego, które powinny zasugerować osobie wykonującej badanie ultrasonograficzne konieczność dalszej diagnostyki w tym kierunku. Materiał i metoda: W niniejszej pracy dokonano analizy 10 przypadków guzów kostnych u 9 dzieci, u których wykonano badanie ultrasonograficzne na początku algorytmu diagnostycznego przed postawieniem rozpoznania histopatologicznego oraz rozpoczęciem leczenia. Ocenie poddano sonograficzne cechy wskazujące na obecność guza. Wyniki: W grupie 9 pacjentów na podstawie obrazów zmiany w badaniu ultrasonograficznym zdiagnozowano 8 złośliwych guzów kostnych, potwierdzonych histopatologicznie: 4 zmiany o charakterze osteosarcoma, 4 zmiany o charakterze mięsaka Ewinga. W jednym przypadku na podstawie badania ultrasonograficznego ustalono rozpoznanie dwóch guzów kostnych bez określenia ich charakteru – złośliwy/łagodny oraz pierwotny/wtórny. Wnioski: Badanie ultrasonograficzne w analizowanych przypadkach pozwoliło na ustalenie prawidłowego rozpoznania ogniskowej zmiany kostnej, a w większości przypadków (8/9) dało obraz sugerujący jej złośliwy charakter oraz konieczność dalszej diagnostyki i objęcia leczeniem.
