Opis:
The aim of the article is to analyze the determinants and other conditions of the religious policy of the Polish state towards the Methodist Church in the Stalinist period. The author took into account conceptual, programmatic, executive and operational activities undertaken by a complex subject of power, formed by three structures: party, administrative and special services. In his opinion, the liquidation direction of religious policy towards the Methodist Church was determined primarily by two factors: 1) the activity of Methodists in Masuria, which was assessed as “harmful activities” because they were competitive to the activity of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church (in which the authorities placed great hopes for effective repolonization of the native population), 2) strong links between the Methodist Church in Poland and the Methodist Church in the West (United States of America, Canada, Great Britain, Sweden). The liquidationa ctivities have been depicted primarily on the basis of solutions included in the action of special services under the codename “Moda”. The author also explains the reasons for the final resignation from the liquidation policy towards Polish Methodism and the inclusion of the Methodist Church in the direction of the rationing policy.

Opis:
Tapentadol is the newest opioid with dual mechanism of action, that gives the potential to spare some opioid-induced adverse events. Studies involving this drug in acute pain are not numerous. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerance of tapentadol and oxycodone in patients after abdominal hysterectomy. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups receiving: I. tapentadol (50 mg) and II. oxycodone (10 mg), every 12 hours postoperatively. The Numerical Rating Scores (NRS), vital signs, main adverse events (postoperative nausea and vomiting, sedation) and other side effects would be recorded until discharge. Total opioid consumption, the patients’ satisfaction, adjuvants consumption, and length of hospital stay were also assessed Mean NRS scores for tapentadol and oxycodone after 24, 48 and 72 hours were: 3.43 (±1.29) vs 3.59 (±1.37), 2.87 (±1.07) vs 3.24 (±1.21), 2.80 (±1.05) vs 3.19 (±1.24), respectively. In the tapentadol group, superior pain control (p<0.05) in few time points during the day second was observed although demand for rescue analgesics was slightly higher (p>0.05). Mucosal dryness affected over >90% patients in both groups. The incidence of postoperative nausea was 39.5% (tapentadol) and 27% (oxycodone) on the first day. The incidence of drowsiness was 42.1% (tapentadol) and 37.8% (oxycodone). Other adverse events’ level, satisfaction with treatment, length of stay after surgery, effect on vital signs were comparable.

Opis:
Objective. The study was designed to evaluate the relationship between thyroid antibodies and gland dysfunction, with the aim of finding a clinically useful threshold value of thyreoperoxidase antibodies, which could prove to be predictive for thyroid failure. Materials and method. The study was conducted on 99 women, ages ranging from 18–91 years (mean age: 45.5 ±17.0), were treated as outpatients in the Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Internal Medicine. Analysis of serum samples for TSH concentration and anti-TPO titers was conducted. Results. The most common disorder was hypothyroidism. Anti-TPO titers above reference range values were observed in 35 patients (35.4%): 21 (60%) were hypothyroid and 11 (31.4 %) were euthyroid. The anti-TPO and TSH serum levels correlated both in patients with high thyroid antibody titers, and in the anti-TPO negative groups. To find the threshold value of anti-TPO that would help predict hypothyroidism, receiver operating curves were used. With this approach, TPO antibody titers over 17 IU/ml indicated hypothyroidism with a 90% sensitivity and 75% sensibility. Conclusion. It can be postulated that the cutoff values of anti-TPO in the general population should be decreased in order to improve autoimmune thyroid disorder screening. Obviously, using that margin may lead initially to the detection of some false positive subjects. However, with lower cut-off values, more patients can be enrolled into thyroid follow-up groups. In this way, many people could avoid complications of undiagnosed, insidious thyroid failure.
