Opis:
Bartonellosis is a disease affecting a variety of animals. Many Bartonella infections are zoonotic, including cat scratch disease. Within the genus Bartonella are 45 species, of which more than 10 can infect cats and dogs. Companion animals serve as reservoirs for several zoonotic species of Bartonella, and may also serve as sentinels for zoonotic Bartonella species harbored by wildlife. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of the occurrence of Bartonella spp. DNA in dogs from households where cats with clinical bartonellosis were kept. The presence of DNA with 99–100% compliance of the nucleotide sequence with the sequence of the Bartonella DNA isolated from cats was demonstrated in the body of 10% of tested dogs. The results indicate that cats serve as a Bartonella reservoir for dogs, and the dogs can play the same role with regard to humans.

This article presents the model of oil spill on the grid graph. We consider the three types of grid which parameters are corresponding to condition on the sea. The firefighter problem gives the algorithm to bound the oil spill. We compare the action starting time in model described by sum of N variables with the uniform probability distribution and the action starting time in real situation described by sum of two triangular random variables. For every type of grid we determine the Time Average of Going Around of the Spill.

Opis:
An integrated model, which contains flow and transport‐fate modules, will be presented for simulating transport and fate of oil spills at seas. The flow module uses different kinds of meshes that provide great flexibility for modeling the flow in complex geometries of currents and barriers. The refined grid resolution in regions of interest is important. Horizontal diffusion is simulated using random walk techniques in a Monte Carlo framework, whereas the vertical diffusion process can be solved on the basis of the Langeven equation. The model contains the most significant processes which affect the motion of oil particles. For a better fit to the curvature of the coastline there are used unstructured non overlapping rectangular or triangle grid cells. Special attention must be paid to choose the horizontal and vertical resolution in simulating the oil trajectory in the coastal area.

Coastal zones are not only the fundaments for local economics based on trade, shipping and transport services, but also a source of food, energy, and resources. Apart from offering diverse opportunities for recreation and tourism, coastal zones provide protection against storms and other meteorological disturbances. Environmental information is also essential because of the direct influence on a country’s maritime zones, which are territorial sea and exclusive economic zones. Keeping local communities and ecosystems healthy requires monitoring and assessing of all the vital changes of territorial sea and its baseline. The paper presents a method and a concept of a system that provides an efficient means of automatic analysis of spatial data provided by satellite observation systems (optical Landsat 8 and SAR Sentinel 1) in order to monitor, and detect, changes in the coastline. The proposed methodology is based on a set of algorithms that enable one to trace and detect changes in coastline shape, and eventual damage to marine infrastructure, such as breakwaters and harbours, relying on high resolution satellite observational products.

The concept of oil slick movement being influenced by wind and sea currents is elementary for the decision model of the distribution of large oil spill emergency control means at sea. The analysis of water area conditions such as wind and sea currents is elementary for the concept of oil slick movement. The article presents the model of oil slick movement under the influence of wind and sea currents. In building the model, random walk in two-dimensional lattice graphs has been used. The movement of oil slick is analysed in two ways. In the paper, the movement of the oil slick is analysed in two ways without wind and focus on surface sea currents and with wind and currents. Case one assumes no wind and focuses on surface sea currents only using random walk in a two-dimensional square grid graph. Case two assumes that wind is in place, so oil slick is moving due to surface sea currents and wind currents. The description of movement in case two is based on a two-dimensional lattice graph, which is a combination of a triangular grid graph and a hexagonal grid graph. The article also describes the basic assumptions of oil slick model: the definition of water area, oil slick and algorithm for rescue action to contain the oil spill. Oil slick movement concept is elementary for the decision model of oil spill control at sea. The model allows estimating the distance of oil slick from coastal areas.

The paper presents an analysis of influence of vibrations generated by small hand-held household appliances on temperature changes of hands. To visualize thermal changes of operators’ hands a thermographic camera was used. During the tests values of acceleration of device handle vibrations at points of contact with operators’ hands were recorded simultaneously. It has been observed that even during short periods of work the hand temperature changes significantly. The biggest recorded change was equal to 3°C. The tests have shown that the influence of vibrations is in this case sensed more strongly particularly by fingers and a wrist. The analysis of results has shown purposefulness of pointing out synergistic influence of vibrations and thermal changes caused by commonly available appliances on a human body.

Opis:
Copper deficiency is a common homeostatic disorder in dairy cattle farms in Poland. A simultaneous decrease in blood copper and iron concentrations is very rarely diagnosed and described in dairy cows. Copper is necessary for the mobilization of iron from the liver and its transport to bone marrow, where it is used for erythropoiesis. The aim of the study was to observe changes in haematological parameters in cows, resulting from copper deficiency or simultaneous deficiency of copper and iron, in comparison with animals from the same herds in which no deficiencies of these micronutrients were found. The study was conducted on 56 cows of the HF breed, aged from 3 to 6 years, from 3 dairy farms. The animals selected for the study were divided into three groups, two deficiency groups and one control group – without deficiency. Group I comprised animals with reduced concentration of copper in the serum, while group II comprised animals with low copper and iron concentrations. Group III comprised healthy cows without clinical symptoms and mineral deficiency. In both deficiency groups, the one characterized by a low concentration of copper, as well as the one with low concentrations of copper and iron, a reduction in red blood cell parameters, which was statistically significant versus the control group, was observed. In the examined animals, normocytic normochromic anaemia was found in group I, while normocytic hypochromic anaemia was diagnosed in group II. Cows with simultaneous Cu and Fe deficiency have worse milk yield results and they are more often culled from the herd. It is not clear why only some animals in a herd develop simultaneous deficiency of these micronutrients.

Opis:
This paper presents investigation of methods for reducing light pulsation and plasma temperature inside a high intensity discharge (HID) lamp arc tube. Differences found in light emission of an arc tube plasma channel under different power supply methods are presented and discussed in this work. The novelty of the paper lies in systematical investigation of different power converter supply methods and demonstrating that it has a significant influence on plasma temperature in an arc tube. The tested lamp was powered by electronic ballasts controlled by different algorithms, which forced their current waveform. To compare the results, the authors performed measurements on a discharge lamp powered by a standard electromagnetic ballast. The investigation of plasma parameters is based on the optical spectroscopy method. It was shown that by using the appropriate current shape of a high switching frequency supply converter, the plasma temperature of an HID lamp can be reduced almost by half.

The subject of the study concerns the enhancement of corrosion and wear resistance of nitrided 42CrMo4 steel by the formation of zinc phosphate top layer. The present work is aimed at the assessment of the effect of increasing thickness of nitrided layer from approximately 2 μm to 16 μm on the morphology and properties of zinc phosphate coating. XRD analysis showed that along with the increase in the thickness of the nitrides layer, a change in the phase composition was observed. SEM/EDS examination revealed that top layer consists of crystalline zinc phosphate coating. The shape and size of crystals does not significantly depend on a thickness of nitrides layer but corrosion resistance determined by potentiodynamic method in 0.5M NaCl increased with an increase of thickness of a “white layer”. Similarily the wear resistance determined by the 3-cone-roll test was also the highest for 16 μm nitride layer.
