Opis:
The increasingly frequent use of computer simulations for the calculations concerning the water supply systems requires accounting for the demand patterns. Determining the coefficients of daily and hourly non-uniformity is indispensable for the correct designing or modernization of pipes in the water supply network. The first goal of article was to obtain the non-uniformity index for the preparation of hydraulic models in rural water systems called "N" system and "CWK" system. In this article, the authors present the results of the water consumption analysis in two rural water supply systems. The article presents the water consumption non-uniformity factors calculated over the course of a year, a month and a day. The article also included the calculated water demand curves over the course of a day, showing the variability of water demand with characteristic morning and evening water consumption peaks and changes of the consumption curve in the prospective development of the water supply network, where industrial consumers would become the main water consumers. The research material consisted of the water consumption measurements in two rural water supply networks situated in northeastern Poland, taken over the years 2010-2017. The article also shows the water demand curves in the studied rural water supply networks for every day of the week. The values of minimum and maximum hourly non-uniformity coefficients were compared to the mean value of these coefficients. The changes in the values of minimum and maximum hourly coefficients with respect to the mean value for the given hour may differ from -89% to +85% for hours of minimum demand. The changes in the values of minimum and maximum hourly coefficients with respect to the mean value for the given hour may differ from -16% to +30% for hours of maximum demand.

ObjectivesThe present study focused on the relationship between occupational activity and mental health during the first COVID-19 lockdown.Material and MethodsAt the turn of May and June 2020, an online survey was conducted on a representative sample of 3000 Poles (age: Me = 45 years). Working persons accounted for 52% of the respondents, while 38.1% were hired workers. Two standardized (0–100 pts) indices were defined. The level of mental health symptoms index (LMHSI) concerned the incidence of 4 problems within the past 2 months, whereas the change in mental health symptoms index (CMHSI) concerned the degree of mental health deterioration.ResultsThe mean value of LMHSI was 40.91 (SD = 26.97), and that of CMHSI 60.51 (SD = 23.97). In both cases, a worse assessment was obtained among women than among men. In the group of working respondents, the least advantageous results were found among those who worked casually or under a commission contract. Among the non-employed respondents, jobless persons and students were the group at risk. Remote work resulted in the deterioration of mental health in the light of CMHSI; however, a threat of changes in the professional situation affected LMHSI variability to the greatest extent The results of linear regression (R2 = 0.339) suggest that the increase in the CMHSI score (adjusted for LMHSI) is independently influenced by female sex, university education, remote work and a threat of the worsening of employment terms. The analysis of the interaction effect showed a stronger impact of the last factor in the group of women (p = 0.001).ConclusionsTo conclude, COVID-19 restrictions were associated with a negative impact on mental health which should be analyzed in the occupational context.

The topic of failures and water losses in the urban-rural water supply network was discussed. The purpose of the work was to assess the level of real water losses and the failure rate of the urban-rural water supply network in 2010-2016. The article’s introduction contains the information on the types and causes of breakdowns in the water supply network. The life cycle of the leakage from its inception to its removal was also described. Next, the methodology and indicators for assessing actual losses in the water supply network were presented according to the guidelines of the International Water Association (IWA), i.e. ILI, CARL, UARL, RLB and water balance. The material and methods chapter describes how to calculate the failure rate. On the basis of the literature review, a method of assessing the failure of the water supply network and the level of actual water losses was presented. The research part presents the results of the water losses indicators values and assesses them against the literature data for the entire urban-rural system. The results of the failure of the water supply of the urban area and the rural area were also presented and compared with the literature data. A method of calculating limit values of the failure intensity index for the entire water supply system was also proposed. The changes in the intensity of failure occurrence during the year were presented. The object described in the studies achieved the A rating according to the classification of ILI and RLB values throughout the entire analysis period (2010–2016). Failure intensity in the analyzed period exceeded the average values calculated for water supply networks in Poland many times. The values in individual cases exceeded the limit values specified in the literature.

Opis:
The impact of physical activity on mental health is widely described in literature. Less attention is given to factors which may modify this correlation, except for gender. The aim of this study was to conduct a qualitative assessment of such papers relating to children and young people. Selected papers were evaluated with regard to additional factors related to family, school and neighborhood. Attention was drawn to the definitions of these variables, the methods of analysis, and the content of the discussion. The starting point for this study included 7 systematic reviews published in 2006–2018. A total of 161 full articles described in detail in those reviews, and representing different research patterns, were selected for qualitative analysis. They met the criteria for the type of publication, mental health outcome, the direction of association, and the age group. A supplementary section of this paper contains a review of Polish literature from the Polish Medical Bibliography, and an analysis of national studies and some more recent papers not included in the analyzed reviews. It was demonstrated that 33 papers analyzed environmental variables to a greater degree than the characteristics of the sample. Twenty-three papers containing the results of statistical analyses were considered to be of particular interest. Almost 50% of these included both the socio-economic position of the family and the characteristics of the neighborhood. However, only 1 featured stratification of the sample with regard to contextual environmental variables. The obtained results are of great practical importance. Firstly, development of the research into environmental moderators should be advocated. Secondly, the social context in which adolescents grow up should be taken into account when designing intervention programs. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2019;32(4):423–39

The frequency of daily precipitation in a year was determined in nine categories: from very weak (less than 1.0 mm) to disastrous (over 100 mm). In addition, the precipitation trends were determined by linear regression and the Mann-Kendall test. Analysis of the variability of the number of days with precipitation of particular categories showed a statistically significant downward trend for moderately strong precipitation (10.1-20.0 mm). In case of other categories of precipitation, the tests did not show statistically significant changes.

The aim of this paper is to present the patterns of the health behaviour in adolescents from Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia). The data concerning 5,588 15-year-old students were used, surveyed during the 2009/10 school year within HBSC study (Health Behaviour in School-aged Children). Five clusters with different behaviour patterns were found. The most positive model (high level of physical activity and a low level of risk behaviours) was found in 35.6% of adolescents from those countries. However, in 26.7%, relatively high physical activity co-exists with a high or very high level of risk behaviours. In all the countries, more negative models can be found in poor families and students with poor academic achievements. Adolescents categorised into more positive behaviour patterns are more satisfied with their lives. Members of different clusters should be approached with different prevention programmes, taken into account the specifics of each country.

The paper presents the results of studies on local resistance coefficients (ζ). The study used pipe aerators with filling made according to the Polish patent PL235924. The hydraulic investigations were performed in real working conditions of a water treatment plant in a testing rig built in the Scientific and Research Water Station of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). The investigation encompassed two plastic pipe aerators of an internal diameter 101.6 and 147.6 mm with steel Białecki rings of 12 and 25 mm in diameter. Measurements of pressure difference (Δp) in the investigated aerators were performed at volumetric water flows (Q) selected from the range 2-20 m3∙h-1 with the interval 2 m3∙s-1. The values of ζ were determined according to the PN-EN 1267:2012 standard. The investigation showed that the ζ depends both on an internal diameter of the plastic pipe aerator and the diameter of Białecki steel rings. The values of ζ increase with a decrease of the internal diameter of the pipe aerator and a decrease of the ring diameter.

This paper addresses the problem of position-force control for robot manipulators under geometric endpoint constraints defined as round obstacles. Considerations are based on hybrid position-force control and use modified Arimoto algorithm with the principle of ”orthogonalisation”. To achieve so-called joint space orthogonalisation, where motion signals are orthogonal to force vectors and the direction selection is performed in the joint space, projection matrix is utilized. The convergence of tracting and force errors is proved.

Opis:
Aim: According to Bandura’s social cognitive theory, high self-efficacy has a positive impact on one’s motivation and achievements. There are two different attitudes which patients diagnosed with cancer adopt. The active attitude consists in putting up a fight for one’s health and life and in general mobilization, whereas the passive one manifests itself in fear and general surrender. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between mental adaptation to cancer and self-efficacy in women after hysterectomy performed for oncological reasons. Material and methods: The research involved 37 patients with reproductive organ cancer, after hysterectomy. The authors used their own survey, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) and the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer scale – Mini-MAC. The authors analyzed the relationship between the coping strategies adopted by patients and the level of self-efficacy based on sociodemographic variables. In statistical computations, planned comparison (contrast analysis), Kruskal–Wallis analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson’s r correlation coefficient and Kendall’s tau coefficient were used. The significance level was assumed at p ≤ 0.05. Results: 1) Women after hysterectomy adopt constructive strategies of coping with the disease. These strategies are: “fighting spirit” and “positive reinterpretation.” 2) Women in a relationship adopt a destructive strategy called “helplessness/hopelessness” more often than single women, whilst women with a better economic status tend to adopt the constructive strategy known as “positive reinterpretation.” 3) Patients with higher self-efficacy more frequently adopt the “fighting spirit” and “positive reinterpretation” strategies. 4) The level of self-efficacy is higher in women in a relationship than in single women. Conclusions: 1) The level of self-efficacy in patients after hysterectomy is higher than its average level in the Polish population and the highest among the clinical populations studied so far. 2) Higher level of self-efficacy increases the tendency to adopt constructive strategies.
Wykorzystano ankietę własnej konstrukcji, Skalę Uogólnionej Własnej Skuteczności – GSES i Skalę Przystosowania Psychicznego do Choroby Nowotworowej – Mini-MAC. W obliczeniach statystycznych wykorzystano porównania zaplanowane (analiza kontrastów), test ANOVA rang Kruskala–Wallisa, współczynnik korelacji r Pearsona i tau Kendalla.

Introduction. A severe epidemic of lifestyle diseases, including obesity, is now one of the biggest problems of modern medicine. This is a medical problem, social and economic. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of selected perinatal and environmental factors on the prevalence of overweight and obesity in preschool children located in the Subcarpathian region. Materials and methods. The survey was conducted in 2012, it included 200 children between the ages of 3 to 6 years (87 boys and 113 girls) from kindergartens. In children, weight loss was measured on an electronic balance and their height was also measured on medical scale. Obesity was determined on the basis of criteria developed by the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF). Results. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among preschool children was found in 3-year-olds (6.4%), 4-year- olds (11.3%), 5-year-olds (17.7%), and 6-year-olds (20.7%). Conclusions. Body weight and mother’s BMI are factors that significantly increase the risk of obesity among children aged 3–6. Additionally, in boys, a risk factor is also the birth body length.
Materiał i metoda. Wyniki. Nadwagę i otyłość stwierdzono u 6,4% 3-latków, 11,3% 4 -latków, 17,7% 5-latków i 20,7% 6-latków. Wnioski. Czynnikiem znamiennie zwiększającym ryzyko otyłości wśród dzieci w wieku 3–6 lat jest masa ciała matki i wskaźnik BMI matki. Dodatkowo u chłopców czynnikiem zwiększającym ryzyko jest urodzeniowa długość ciała.

Opis:
Lumbricidae, as representatives of edaphone, are used in ecological research. Over the years, various attempts to improve the ways of earthworm extraction have been made. One of the pro-environmental methods for extracting these animals from the soil is the method involving the application of electric current (octet). The aim of the study was to compare the efficiency of the earthworm extraction using the mixed method (manual segregation along with the use of 0.5% formalin solution) with the method applying the electroshocking. The species composition of earthworms extracted using both methods was the same (seven species of earthworms belonging to three ecomorphological groups were found). A lower number and biomass of earthworms were found in the permanent grassland and arable land with the help of octet than using the mixed method. Further research is needed to improve the existing methods for Lumbricidae extraction and to implement new ones that would be safe for the edaphon representatives.
