Opis:
This paper presents the investigations of vibrations of a vehicle equipped with controlled magneto-rheological (MR) dampers and aerodynamic elements. A scaled sports vehicle model was developed to conduct this research. The tests were carried out with kinematic excitation resulting from road roughness and motion at a variable speed. During the airflow, the aerodynamic elements forces and moments on the test body. Vehicle vibrations are limited by the means of MR controlled dampers. The damping force is determined on the basis of an algorithm, where various strategies for determining forces in MR damper have been adopted. Two criteria were considered for assessing the effectiveness of the control algorithm - minimising vertical acceleration and changes in wheel normal reactions on road surface. This paper presents the results of those studies.

Opis:
In the paper we consider the issue related to the phenomenon of wheel-to-rail adhesion. This issue concerns self-excited vibrations in the area of wheel-rail contact, caused by unstable friction. Such friction is characterized by decreasing values of the friction coefficient with increasing slipping velocity. The paper includes mathematical formulation of the problem and presents the method for solving it. In addition, a simulation of elementary vehicle driving was performed. During the simulation, self-excited vibrations arose during wheel slip caused by high driving torque. The paper presents graphs illustrating the tangential force and the slipping velocity during these vibrations.

Opis:
Synthesis and biological evaluation are described of seven new analogues (3-9) of two potent thymidylate synthase inhibitors, 10-propargyl-5,8-dideazafolate (1) and its 2-methyl-2-deamino congener ICI 198583 (2). While the new compunds 3 and 4 were analogues of 1 and 2, respectively, containing a p-aminobenzenesulfonyl residue in place of the p-aminobenzoic acid residue, the remaining 5 new compounds were analogues of 4 with the L-glutamic acid residue replaced by glycine (5), L-valine (6), L-alanine (7), L-phenylglycine (8) or L-norvaline (9). The new analogues were tested as inhibitors of thymidylate synthases isolated from tumour (Ehrlich carcinoma), parasite (Hymenolepis diminuta) and normal tissue (regenerating rat liver) and found to be weaker inhibitors than the parent 10-propargyl-5,8-dideazafolic acid. Selected new analogues, tested as inhibitors of growth of mouse leukemia L 5178Y cells, were less potent than the parent 10-propargyl-5,8-dideazafolic acid. Substitution of the glutamyl residue in compound 4 with l-norvaline (9) resulted in only a 5-fold stronger thymidylate synthase inhibitor, but a 40-fold weaker cell growth inhibitor.
