Opis:
In this article, an analysis of an innovative system for filtering signals in the audible range (16 Hz - 20 kHz) on programmable logic devices using a filters with a finite impulse response, is presented. Mentioned system was neat combination of software and hardware platform, where in the program layer a multiple programming languages including VHDL, JavaScript, Matlab or HTML were used to create completely useful application. To determine the coefficients of polynomial filters the Matlab Filter Design & Analysis Tool was used. Thanks to the developed graphic layer, a user-friendly interface was created, which allows easily transfer the required coefficients from the computer to the executive system. The practical implementation made on the FPGA platform, specifically on the Altera DE2- 115 development kit with the FPGA Cyclone IV, was compared with simulation realization of Matlab FIR filters. The performed research confirm the effectiveness of filtration in real time with up to 128th order of the filter for both audio channels simultaneously in FPGA-based system.

Opis:
The subject of the work was the assessment of the possibility of using Cadmould 3D-F® software based on numerical analysis to design complex injection moulding cavities with plasticised polymer feed channels on the example of an element requiring special dimensional accuracy. The overarching goal of the design process was to create the most advantageous geometry of the injection moulding cavity model and the dedicated material supply channels, which will minimize the effect of problems occurring during injection moulding process, such as processing shrinkage, surface collapse, warpage and mouldings deformation. As an additional criterion, the smallest possible degree of complexity of the designed system was adopted for economical reasons and elimination of subsequent production problems resulting from the complex geometry of the designed mould.

Opis:
In the article, we analyse attitudes of representatives of the Belarusian minority in Poland towards the armed anti-communist underground operating in the Podlasie region after 1944 (the so-called ‘cursed soldiers’). Drawing on semi-structured interviews with various Belarusian actors, as well as on observations made during field research in the Podlasie region in June 2021, we are able to illustrate a clash between official commemorative practices and the local and communicative memory of the Belarusians. We analyse the role played by the collective memory of the underground among the Belarusian minority in Podlasie against the backdrop of the hegemonic politics of memory that glorifies the ‘cursed soldiers’ as national heroes. The analysis of counter-hegemonic memory accounts and their relation to dominant narratives uncovers the emotions generated by the hegemonic politics of memory among representatives of the Belarusian minority, who generally regard it as depreciating their experience and evoking a sense of endangerment. We show that Belarusian memory is perceived as incompatible with the ideological assumptions of the hegemonic Polish memory; therefore, we want to give voice to the marginalised representatives of the Belarusian minority. However, the Belarusian minority should not be perceived as a homogenous group – our analysis points to the fact that various actors various actors negotiate the hegemonic politics of memory in various ways when faced with the pressure of assimilation.

Opis:
The research paper reviews issues associated with the impact of groundwater flow on soil characteristics and parameters, hence, the entire structure of a building set on it. Water seepage through the ground, building subsoil or structural elements of buildings made of soil affects the soil skeleton and may lead to changes in the arrangement of individual grains relative to each other, i.e., a modified soil structure. Soil solid phase (soil skeleton) deformations resulting from seepage forces are called seepage-induced deformations. The article characterizes typical seepage-induced deformations and specifies a criterion defining the beginning of the phenomenon. The case study involved using data on cracks and deformations in a historic building, as well as water seepage in its subsoil. Seepage was analysed, and zones where the seepage process initiation criterion was exceeded, were determined based on subsoil water level monitoring data. The determined zones coincide with the location of building cracks and scratches and confirm the possible cause behind building damage.

Opis:
A case of a 46-year-old car driver struck with great force by a tram through the driver’s door is presented. The main trauma consisted in chest injury with multi-rib fracture along with rupture and dissection of the thoracic aorta. Immediate medical rescue actions consisted only in procedures necessary to support vital functions; the patient survived owing to being promptly transported to the Emergency Department to undergo thoracotomy and laparotomy with massive blood transfusion. Polytrauma angio-CT scan revealed a posttraumatic thoracic aorta lesion which in turn was treated by deployment of an endovascular thoracic stent graft. This way, the immediate risk of death was averted, and the remaining traumatic lesions and conditions could be treated. Patient was discharged to a Rehabilitation Center on the 49th day of treatment. The authors stress that trauma resulting from accidents with this particular mechanism, i.e. lateral car crash on the driver’s side with the driver’s door being staved in by the tram, should be managed by immediate transport of the patient to the Emergency Center. In such cases early drainage of the pleural cavity can deteriorate patient’s status by increasing the bleeding from the ruptured aorta.

Opis:
Sutures are the most versatile materials used in surgery. Despite recent technological advances and availability of novel materials such as tissue cements, it appears that surgical sutures will continue to be used for many years to come. The objective of this study was to provide an overview of the most common absorbable sutures used in general surgery. The appropriate suture choice for a particular procedure is of key importance for the success of that procedure.
