    The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between somatotype, muscle torque, maximal power output and height of rise of the body mass centre measured in akimbo counter movement jump (ACMJ), counter movement jump (CMJ) and spike jump (SPJ), and power output measured in maximal cycle ergometer exercise bouts in female volleyball players. Fourteen players participated in the study. Somatotype was determined using the Heath–Carter method. Maximal muscle torque was measured under static conditions. Power output was measured in 5 maximal cycle ergometer exercise bouts, 10 s each, at increasing external loads equal to 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 and 12.5% of body weight (BW). All jump trials (ACMJ, SPJ and CMJ) were performed on a force plate. The mean somatotype of volleyball players was: 4.9-3.5-2.5. The value of the sum of muscle torque of the left upper extremities was significantly correlated only with mesomorphic component. Mesomorphic and ectomorphic components correlated significantly with values of maximal power measured during ACMJ and CMJ. Power output measured in maximal cycle ergometer exercise bouts at increasing external loads equal to 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5% of BW was significantly correlated with endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy.

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the environmental awareness of the organic and conventional farmers on the territory of the Podlaskie voivodeship. The results indicate that farmers engaged in conventional farming have lower environmental awareness about sources of environmental pollution of agricultural origin than the organic farmers. Despite the fact that most organic farmers have a higher awareness than conventional ones, not all of them confirm this rule. Many conventional farmers see the environmental benefits of organic farming, but only a few are interested in running such a holding. Among the efforts to increase the acceptance of the organic cultivation system in the first place should be education. Increasing the level of environmental awareness among the farmers will enable to reduce wrong practices in agriculture. It is also necessary to provide technical support in the field of organic cultivation technology and in terms of the interpretation of the legal rules relating to the organic method of production. This is a serious challenge for advisory services and institutions to disseminate knowledge about organic farming. The proper designing of the financial assistance for the organic farmers is of huge importance, especially in the new financial perspective of the EU CAP.
    Celem pracy była ocena i porównanie świadomości ekologicznej rolników z terenu województwa podlaskiego. Wyniki badań wskazują, że rolnicy prowadzący gospodarstwa konwencjonalne mają mniejszą świadomość ekologiczną na temat źródeł zanieczyszczenia środowiska pochodzenia rolniczego niż rolnicy prowadzący gospodarstwa ekologiczne. Pomimo tego, że większość rolników gospodarstw ekologicznych odznacza się wyższym poziomem świadomości w stosunku do rolników gospodarstw konwencjonalnych, zasada ta nie zawsze jest potwierdzana. Wielu rolników gospodarstw konwencjonalnych widzi korzyści dla środowiska wynikające z rolnictwa ekologicznego, ale tylko nieliczni są zainteresowani prowadzeniem gospodarstw ekologicznych. Wśród działań mających na celu zwiększenie akceptacji systemu produkcji ekologicznej na pierwszym miejscu powinna znaleźć się edukacja. Podniesienie poziomu świadomości ekologicznej rolników pozwoliłoby ograniczyć stosowanie niewłaściwych praktyk w rolnictwie. Konieczne jest także zapewnienie wsparcia technicznego w zakresie technologii uprawy oraz w zakresie interpretacji przepisów prawnych odnoszących się do metody produkcji ekologicznej. Poważnym wyzwaniem dla usług doradczych jest upowszechnianie wiedzy na temat rolnictwa ekologicznego. Dla rolników gospodarstw ekologicznych duże znaczenie ma prawidłowe zaprojektowanie pomocy finansowej, zwłaszcza w nowej perspektywie finansowej dotyczącej WPR w UE.

    Vertical jump tests are used to assess lower-limb power of athletes in sport sciences. Flight time measurement with jump-mat systems is the most common procedure for this purpose. The aim of this study was to analyze the concurrent validity and reliability of two proprietary systems (Globus and Axon) and an open-source system (Chronojump). Methods: A conditioning electric circuit governed by a controlled wave generator is designed to substitute athletes jumping on a physical mat. In order to look for possible differences associated to timekeeping by each microcontroller device, all three systems are fed by the circuit simultaneously. Results: Concurrent validity was high for the three systems. Standarized typical error of estimate (TEE) was trivial, according to MBI interpretation, as well as perfect Pearson correlation coefficient. Reliability was assessed using coefficient of variation of flight time measure, resulting in 0.17–0.63% (0.05–0.12 cm) for Globus, 0.01% (0.09 cm) for Chronojump and 5.65–9.38% (2.15–3.53 cm) for Axon. These results show that all jump-mat system produced nearly identical measures of flight time so they can be considered valid and reliable for practical purposes. In comparison, Chronojump showed the best performance whereas Axon showed enough variability and disagreement to pose a problem in testing elite athletes. Conclusions: These experiments show that open-source jump mats are as valid and reliable as their proprietary counterparts at a lower cost. Therefore, practitioners can be confident in using Globus or Chronojump systems to test athletes’ jump height because of their negligible errors and Axon system to monitor general population.

    The paper presents the results of investigations on the resistive structure with a graphene oxide (GO) sensing layer. The effects of dangerous gases (hydrogen and nitrogen dioxide) on the structure were studied; the resistance changes were examined during the flow of the selected gas in the atmosphere of synthetic air. Measurements were performed with a special emphasis on the detection of low concentrations of the analyzed gases. The reactions of the sensing structure to the effect of nitrogen and synthetic air at different humidity were also tested. Much attention was also paid to the fast response of the sensor to the changes in the gas atmosphere. The thin palladium layer (~2 nm) has been applied in order to improve the sensing properties of the structure. The investigations were performed in the temperature range from RT to 120°C and the analyzed gases in synthetic air were batched alternately with pure synthetic air.
