Opis:
The paper reviews the recent reports on the role of the phosphorylated histone H2AX (gamma-H2AX). The modification of this histone is an important part of the cellular response to the induction of DNA double strand breaks (DSB) by ionising radiation and other DSB-generating factors. In irradiated cell the modification is carried out mainly by ATM (ataxia- -telangiectasia mutated) kinase, the enzyme that starts the alarm signalling upon induction of DSB. gamma-H2AX molecules are formed within 1 3 min after irradiation and form foci at the sites of DSB. This seems to be necessary for the recruitment of repair factors that are later present in foci of damaged nuclei. Modification of a constant percentage of H2AX molecules per DSB takes place, corresponding to chromatin domains of megabase pairs of DNA.

Opis:
Cerasus fruticosa is a rare and endangered plant species in Poland. In northern part of the country it occurs on scattered localities of relic, early Holocene (preboreal) character. Most of the species stands known from the end of 19th century have disappeared in the last decades. All data, revised in the field 40 years ago, were checked in 2000-2002. The species survived on 6 localities of 14 ones, confirmed in sixteenth. The hybridization between C. fruticosa and C. vulgaris is one of the main reasons of extinction of the first species. The floristic composition of plant communities with C. fruticosa was examined and compared with relevant literature. The regression of photophilous and thermophilous plant species, characteristic for associations with C. fruticosa and moderate invasion of synanthropic ones were observed.

Opis:
Experimental-Research Unit – Forest Arboretum in Zielonka is located in the Puszcza Zielonka Landscape Park near Poznań and is bordering experimental forests of the Poznań University of Life Sciences. The aim of the studies was to identify the diversity of flora and vegetation of green areas in 13 landscape units, distinguished on the basis of the natural lie of the land, as well as forms and intensity of human impacts. 536 vascular plants species, including 82 of Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class and 102 plant communities with 13 of green areas therein were identified. Taxa and syntaxa of the class mentioned above are present in nearly all complexes of plant communities. The largest acreage of meadows and pastures belongs to the complex of green areas, where the presence of 57 species of Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class and seven associations were revealed. The lowest number of such indicators was found in aquatic and rush vegetation complex of water basins and in ruderal vegetation of build-up areas and roads, whereas their absence in watercourses vegetation complex. Characteristic species share of Molinia and fresh green areas is highly variable in analysed delimitations.

Opis:
In recent years, a number of methods for refining the structure of metals by severe plastic deformation (SPD) have been developed. Some of those methods permit grain refinement to a nanometric level. These methods include, among others, high pressure torsion (HPT), equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and hydrostatic extrusion (HE). The aim of this paper was a more detailed description of these methods and presentation of exemplary applications of these methods for structure refinement and improvement of mechanical properties of chosen materials. The results obtained in the present study show that the microstructures of the materials subjected to SPD studied in this work displayed considerable refinement, characterised by the formation of nanosized grains. Such a refinement resulted in increased tensile strength and hardness of the SPD materials studied in this work. In view of the results obtained on a large number of metals and alloys, a conclusion can be drawn that SPD could become an attractive way of processing materials for variety of applications.
