Opis:
The main problem in the flotation of Cu-Mo sulfide ores in seawater is poor floatability of molybdenite at pH>9.5. Froth stability plays a very important role in determining concentrate grade and recovery in flotation operations and in this paper both floatability and frothability have been tested. The frothability have been studied by measuring froth equilibrium layer thickness in a modified laboratory flotation cell. Two chemical aspects of seawater need to be considered: the content of NaCl (around 87% of salinity), and the concentration of secondary ions (around 13%) (sulfate, magnesium, calcium, bicarbonate ions, etc.). Seawater, NaCl solutions, and seawater’s ions were found to depress frothability. The effect of pH on frothability over the pH range from 9.5 to 11, which is very strong in freshwater, becomes negligible in seawater and the tested electrolyte solutions. The analysis of the relationship between the mechanisms of molybdenite depression and the loss of frothability in seawater implies that the effects of the studied ions on molybdenite floatability and on pulp frothability are different. While depression of molybdenite floatability could be tracked down to magnesium hydroxide precipitation as a main culprit, the depression of frothability is a much more complicated issue.

Opis:
A number of flotation plants around the world have increased the use of seawater due to limited sources of fresh water. The aim of this research work is to study the role that Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions play in the interactions between kaolinite and chalcopyrite in seawater. In order to achieve this objective, the effect of kaolinite on flotation of chalcopyrite is studied over the pH range from 8 to 11, when flotation is carried out in seawater and in a 0.01M NaCl solution. The influence of calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium ions on the extent of depression by kaolinite is evaluated. The micro-flotation results indicate that chalcopyrite is depressed by kaolinite in both 0.01 NaCl solution and seawater. In the 0.01 NaCl solution, the depressing effect of kaolinite decreases as the pH increases from 8 to 11. However, the results obtained using seawater show that the depressing effect of kaolinite is similar to what is observed in a 0.01 NaCl solution only at pH values below 9, but above this pH kaolinite significantly affects the recovery of chalcopyrite. The results from experiments with using solutions containing individual cations show that the depressing action of kaolinite in the presence of Mg2+ and Ca2+ is more obvious at pH values of 9 and 10, respectively, which correlates with the pH values at which the first hydroxy-complexes of these divalent cations start forming. This seems to indicate that depressing effect of kaolinite on chalcopyrite in seawater may be related to formation of hydrolyzed species of calcium and magnesium. These species can induce heterocoagulation between kaolinite and chalcopyrite. The trends observed in the micro-flotation experiments are in good agreement with the results of the induction time measurements and slime coating tests.

Opis:
The paper presents results of the shear viscosity measurements performed on diluted binary mixtures of mesogenic solvent n-hexylcyanobiphenyl (C$\text{}_{6}$H$\text{}_{13}$PhPhC≡N,6CB) and two non-mesogenic admixtures: (i) n-heptylcyanophenyl (C$\text{}_{7}$H$\text{}_{15}$PhC≡N,7CP), composed of the molecules of the same polarity as the solvent molecules but of a slightly shorter length, and (ii) 4-n-propylcyclohexyl-4'-n-pentylphenyl (C$\text{}_{3}$H$\text{}_{7}$CyHxPhC$\text{}_{5}$H$\text{}_{11}$,3CyP5), composed of the non-polar molecules but of a length very close to that of the mesomorphic solvent molecules. The experiment showed that the concentrational depression of the clearing temperature and the temperature extent of the isotropic + nematic (I + N) two-phase region in the mixtures are significantly smaller, i.e. the nematic phase is more thermodynamically stable, when the admixture molecular length is compatible to that of the mesogenic solvent, regardless of the polarity of the admixture molecules. The activation energy for freely flowing mixtures in the isotropic, nematic, and two-phase I + N regions was determined and discussed.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of analyses determining the effect of meadow grass compaction conditions on process parameters and agglomerate strength. The experiments were performed with the use of the ZWICK Z020/TN25 universal strength tester and a closed compression die assembly with three diameters of chamber: 12 mm, 15 mm and 18 mm. The correlations between material density in the chamber and agglomerate density, agglomerate compaction, compaction work, the coefficient of material susceptibility to compaction, the mechanical strength of the agglomerate and the moisture content of meadow grass were determined for three diameters of chamber. Compaction parameters were determined by the moisture content of meadow grass and the diameter of the compression die chamber. Material with a higher moisture content was more susceptible to compression in the die chamber, and the produced agglomerates were characterized by lower mechanical strength.
Przedstawiono wyniki badań nad określeniem wpływu warunków zagęszczania trawy łąkowej na parametry procesu i wytrzymałość aglomeratu. W badaniach wykorzystano maszynę wytrzymałościową ZWICK typ ZO2O/TN25 oraz zespół prasujący z matrycą zamkniętą o trzech średnicach komory 12 mm, 15 mm i 18 mm.

We report on the results of classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of str ucture of amorphous 15 Bi2O3 85 SiO2 [% mol] and 40 Bi2O3 60 SiO2 [% mol], and their totally reduced forms, 15 Bi2 85 SiO2 [% mol], and 40 Bi2 60 SiO2 [% mol], respectively. The simulations have been perfo rmed in the isobaric-isoenthalpic ensemble, using a two-body interaction potential. The set of the potential parameters was constructed as a suitable com bination of the parameters which were previously proposed for pure Bi2O3, and SiO2. Both unreduced, and reduced sy stems were initially prepared as well equilibrated hot melts, and then slowly co oled down to 300K. The structural information from the MD simulations was obtained from radial and angular distribution functions, static structural factors, Voronoi polyhedra sta tistics, and ring analysis. The simulation results can be summarised as follows. In unreduced glass with 15% [mol] Bi2O3 contents, the silicon structural units (mainly regular tetrahedra) form continuous network, whereas in 40% [mol] Bi2O3 glass these units are disconnected. In both unreduced systems Bi ions have mainly six-fold oxygen co-ordination, and no dominating structural unit can be individuated. However, the distorted bismu th units form a continuous network. In both totally reduced glasses (15% Bi2 85% SiO2, and 40% Bi2 60% SiO2 [% mol]), the silica network is built entirely from corner shari ng SiO4 tetrahedra. The structure of the silica subsystem is similar to that of pure *-SiO2. After the reduction, the Bi-Bi co-ordination significantly increases, whereas the first neighbour distance decreases. Moreover, partial static structural fact ors for Bi-Bi pairs indicate that the medium-range order in reduced glasses exhi bits greater periodicity than in unreduced glasses. Neutral Bi atoms form small clusters within the silica matrix.

Opis:
The results of investigations on the physicochemical and grinding characteristics of Moldavian dragonhead seeds are presented. The data obtained showed that the physical properties (average size, sphericity, surface area, 1 000 seed mass, dynamic angle of repose, coefficient of static friction, and bulk and true densities) of the white and blue form of dragonhead seeds were not significantly different. Both forms of dragonhead showed similar levels of protein (average of 21%), whereas the blue form of dragonhead had a lower fat content (average of 23.1%) and higher mucilage content (13.35%) in comparison to the blue form of seed (24.6 and 9.95%, respectively). Antioxidant capacity of dragonhead seeds was comparable for both forms and averaged about 40%, which corresponded to EC50 values of 0.12 and 0.13 mgml-1 for the white and blue forms, respectively. The grinding material showed similar particle size distribution of ground material for both forms of dragonhead seeds. The lowest values of specific grinding energy were obtained for the white form of dragonhead seeds, those for the blue form were significantly higher. Grinding of dragonhead seeds using a screen 2.0 mm mesh size caused screen hole clogging. This problem did not occur when dragonhead seeds were mixed with wheat grain.
