Opis:
Power variation of a customer load can disturb other loads in distribution systems and compensators for such loads are sometimes needed. Voltages and currents in systems with such loads can be asymmetrical, nonperiodic, distorted and even unpredictable. Consequently, reference signals for the compensator control have to be generated in a situation where the power properties of the load are not well specified. Voltages and currents in systems with time-varying loads, although nonperiodic, can be treated as quantities with a disturbed periodicity. These are referred to as semi-periodic quantities. Under such an assumption, the Current Physical Components (CPC) power theory can by used for estimation of the power properties of such loads. In such a case, the CPC power theory provides fundamentals for a quasi-instantaneous generation of reference signals for the compensator control, based both on the frequency- and on the time-domain approach. The paper presents fundamentals of generation of reference signals for unbalanced loads with semi-periodic voltages and currents.

Opis:
Power related phenomena in three-phase, three-wire circuits with linear time-invariant (LTI) loads supplied with asymmetrical sinusoidal voltage are investigated in this paper. The study is based on the concept of the Currents’ Physical Component (CPC) power theory. It is shown that the supply current of LTI loads with sinusoidal asymmetrical voltage, as in the case of symmetrical voltage, is composed of only three physical components, the active, reactive and unbalanced currents. Consequently, loads in such conditions can be characterized by the active, reactive and unbalanced powers. The equivalent and unbalanced admittances of three-phase loads at symmetrical supply voltage are constant, independent on the supply voltage, parameters. The paper shows that these parameters at asymmetrical supply depend on the voltage asymmetry.

The paper summarizes the present state of discussions on power phenomena, power definitions and compensation in single-phase linear circuits. The main concepts developed over several decades on how various non-active powers in circuits with nonsinusoidal voltages and currents should be defined and compensated are presented along with a detailed discussion of these concepts. The paper presents also the concept of the single-phase load current decomposition into Currents' Physical Components (CPC) and its application for power definitions and compensation in such circuits. The paper is not addressed to scientists and experts on powers, but rather to common electrical engineers that sometimes face power related problems in nonsinusoidal systems.

Opis:
Passive infrared (IR) suppression device, commonly known as ejector diffuser, is an integral part of the defence system of a ship. The definitive role of passive IR suppressor to counter the IR tracking and locking of the ship has made them indispensable for any combat marine. The gas turbine exhaust gases are the leading heat source on a ship. The exhaust temperature of the gases ranges between 650K-850K. At such temperatures, the ship can be easily detected by the enemy through IR imaging. The role of the ejector diffuser is to (i) lower the gas turbine exhaust gases temperature to the limits (< 450K) such that the IR locking of the marine can be avoided, and (ii) recover static pressure such that the engine performance of the gas turbine is not affected. Ejector diffuser has the ability to entrain ambient air and allow mixing it with the exhaust gases thereby, lowering the temperature of the exhaust gases. However, the mixed exhaust gases temperature depends on the ambient air temperature which under extreme conditions can fluctuate from 273K to 323K. This temperature range can affect the temperature characteristics of an ejector diffuser. The present study undertakes the effect of ambient temperature on the performance of inline-slot ejector diffuser. The ambient temperature (T0) has been varied in the range 273K ≤ T0 ≤ 323K in the step of 10K. It has been found that the mass entrainment increases (≈ 8%) as the ambient temperature decreases. The core temperature at the exit decreases, from 457.58 K to 417.75K, with a decrease in the ambient temperature. However, no significant changes in static pressure recovery.

Paper presents the results of numerical modelling of a rectangular tube filled with a mixture of air and CO2 by means of the induced standing wave. Assumed frequency inducing the acoustic waves corresponds to the frequency of the thermoacoustic engine. In order to reduce the computational time the engine has been replaced by the mechanical system consisting of a piston. This paper includes the results of model studies of an acoustic tube filled with a mixture of air and CO2 in which a standing wave was induced.

The paper is concerned with an important issue from the field of thermoacoustics - the numerical modelling of the flow field in the thermoacoustic engine. The presented way of modelling is based on the solution to fundamental fluid mechanics equations that govern the flow of compressible, viscous, and heat-transferring gas. The paper presents the way of modelling the thermoacoustic engine, the way of conducting calculations and the results which illustrate the correctness of the selected computational technique.

Opis:
In ordinary metals, antiferromagnetic exchange between conduction electrons and a magnetic impurity leads to screening of the impurity spin below the Kondo temperature, T$\text{}_{K}$. In systems such as semimetals, small-gap semiconductors and unconventional superconductors, a reduction in available conduction states near the chemical potential can greatly depress T$\text{}_{K}$. The behavior of an Anderson impurity in a model with a power-law density of states, ρ(ε) ∝ |ε|$\text{}^{r}$, r>0, for |ε|<Δp, where Δp is small compared to the bandwidth, is studied using the non-crossing approximation. The transition from the Kondo singlet to the magnetic ground state can be seen in the behavior of the impurity magnetic susceptibility χ. The product Tχ saturates at a finite value at low temperature for coupling smaller than the critical one. For sufficiently large coupling Tχ → 0, as T → 0, indicating a complete screening of the impurity spin.

This paper summarizes the present state of discussions on power phenomena, power definitions and compensation in three-phase three-wire linear circuits with nonsinusoidal voltages and currents. In particular, definitions of the arithmetic and geometric apparent powers are discussed. It is shown that these two powers result in an erroneous value of power factor of unbalanced loads even if voltages and currents are sinusoidal. A reasoning that leads to a right selection of the apparent power definition is presented as well. The paper also presents the con-cept of the three-phase current decomposition into Currents' Physical Components (CPC) and its application for power definitions and compensation in three-phase circuits.

Some features of the instantaneous active and reactive powers p and q , not reported earlier, are discussed in this paper. It is shown that oscillating components and of these powers may not depend on the order of the load current harmonic. It was shown, moreover, that a load supplied with a nonsinusoidal voltage may not be distinguished in terms of p and q powers from a harmonics generating load (HGL) supplied with a sinusoidal voltage. This observation is important for compensator control. Also it was shown that the instantaneous reactive power q cannot be interpreted as a measure of amount of energy exchanged between supply lines of a load or as amount of energy rotating around such lines, as it was suggested in some publications on the IRP p-q Theory. A phenomenon of energy rotation or exchange between lines does not exist.

Discussion on the physical interpretation of the reactive power Q is the subject of the paper. This power in common physical interpretation used to be associated with energy oscillation between the load and the supply source. The paper demonstrates that such interpretation is not correct. Just the opposite, the interpretation of the reactive power Q as an effect of energy oscillation is one of the major misinterpretations of power phenomena in electrical circuits. The Currents’ Physical Components (CPC) power theory is the main theoretical tool used in the discussion presented in this paper.
