Opis:
In vitro cultures of Cistus ×incanus (pink rock-rose) were maintained on two variants of Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium differing in terms of composition of plant growth regulators (PGRs): 6-benzyladenine (BA) and 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) at the following concentrations: 3 mg/L and 0, 3 mg/L and 1 mg/L, respectively, and on a variant without PGRs – a control. Cultures were maintained in a form of agar and agitated shoot cultures. The qualitative and quantitative analyzes of three groups of phenolic compounds (catechins, flavonoids, and free phenolic acids) were performed by using the HPLC-DAD technique in methanolic extracts of in vitro biomasses and of commercial plant raw material. In analyzed extracts from in vitro cultures, the presence of catechin [max. 197.80 mg / 100 g dry weight (DW)], epicatechin gallate (max. 30.74 mg / 100 g DW), gallic acid (max. 83.23 mg / 100 g DW), quercetin (max. 10.15 mg / 100 g DW), and quercitrin (max. 72.89 mg / 100 g DW) was confirmed. The quantities of accumulated compounds varied and depended on the type of in vitro culture and the concentration of PGRs in media. The highest amounts of all estimated compounds were obtained in biomasses from agar cultures cultivated on medium without PGRs in vitro. In extracts obtained from commercial raw material, gallic acid (max. 261.80 mg / 100 g DW) and quercetin (max. 255.96 mg / 100 g DW) were detected as being the dominant compounds.

Opis:
In this study we designed and synthesized sixteen new derivatives of 7-amino-4-methylquinolin-2(1H)-one with potential anticancer activity. The structures of synthesized compounds were confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR. The activity of novel substances was evaluated by cell viability assay and wound healing assay. In vitro tests for series of sixteen novel compounds were performed. The results showed that examined compounds are selective for cancer cells, but their activity for various types of cancer is different. Three of new compounds presented ability to inhibit cells migration. The novel compounds constitute a good starting point for further studies and optimization of structure for new therapeutically effective anti-cancerous drugs. Seven compounds, which showed the highest rate of cell inhibition, were selected for further studies.

Opis:
A significant reduction of CO2 emission in the road transport is a major challenge for next years. In the combination with efficient powertrain technologies, the potential of natural gas is excellent for comparably light and cost effective reduction of CO2 and toxic emission in the future [1-2]. As the CNG fuelling stations in Poland are not so far widespread enough to make a dedicated natural gas vehicle practical, it results necessary to start with proposing alternatively CNG powered engines. Such a bi-fuel automotive engines are necessary to bridge the gap between petrol and natural gas. As a sample of modern engine design an Opel 1.6 litre 4-cylinder engine has been selected as a base of powertrain for development of bi-fuelpassenger car engine. The influence of ignition timing on CNG combustion process has been presented in this paper. A 1.6 litre SI engine has been tested in the special program. For selected engine operating conditions, following data were acquired: in cylinder pressure, crank angle, fuel mass consumption and exhaust gases temperatures. For the settings of 6, 9, 12 and 15 deg crank angle timing advance correction, the internal temperature of combustion chamber has been estimated, as well as the charge combustion ratio and ratio of heat release were tested. With the help of the mathematical model, emissions of NO, CO and CO2 were additionally estimated. Obtained results made it possible to compare the influence of ignition timing advance on natural gas combustion in SI engine.

Opis:
The results of SI engine fueled with blends of LPG and DME are presented in the paper. The range studies submitted includes measurements at varying engine loads, at selected values of speed. The research was conducted on a chassis dynamometer, specifying the engine load by the degree of throttle opening. Value of the mass fraction of DME in the blend with LPG was determined based on previous analyzes. The selected fuel blends containing from 7 to 17% DME (mass fraction). During the study was also performed a series of comparative measurements with pure LPG. Analyses show that of DME can be used as a partial substitute for LPG in SI engines. Its presence does not a negative impact on performance and emissions of the engine. The obtained results indicate that the amount of addition of DME should be varied depending on the engine load. Moreover, the use of this fuel does not require changes to the design fueling system and storage of LPG.

Opis:
The aim of research was the elaboration of the synthesis of new organic monomer applicable in gelcasting. The substance named 3,4-di-acryloyl-D-mannitol which contains two acryloyl groups and four hydroxyl groups in its molecule has been synthesized. The monomer has been then applied in the preparation of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites by gelcasting and subsequent sintering. Rheological properties of ceramic suspensions have been examined, as well as the properties of green and sintered bodies. SEM observations allowed to determine the distribution of zirconia grains in alumina matrix. Density, Vickers hardness and fracture toughness of ZTA composites have been measured. The new monomer, that is diacryloyl derivative of mannitol, is less sensitive to the oxygen inhibition than commonly used in gelcasting and commercially available 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate.

Opis:
Amber-bearing sands from Zdolbuniv mine are Paleogene fine-grained (0.6–0.12 mm) clastic rocks. The material is poorly rounded and moderately sorted out. It mainly consists of quartz, glauconite, and subordinately, feldspars (K-feldspars and plagioclases), mica, carbonates, zircon, epidote, fossil resins (Baltic amber) and ore minerals such as hematite, rutile, anatase, ilmenite. The presence of glauconite in the sands proves that sedimentation basin had to be marine reservoir. The variable composition of individual glauconite grains suggests the environmental conditions had to change during the sedimentation of clastic rocks. The occurrence of minerals, assembly such as zircon, epidote, ilmenite, rutile, anatase in the sands as well as the brown CL color of quartz grains, may suggest that majority of clastic material originated from metamorphic rocks, most probably coming from the Ukrainian Shield. Together with metamorphic material the fragment of fossil resins, i.e. Baltic amber, from the Paleogene off-shore forests could be transported to the sedimentation basin. Nowadays the bottom part of the analyzed profile is the most promising for the recovery of glauconite, whereas the exploration of Baltic amber may be initiated from the top of the profile.
Piaski bursztynonośne z kopalni Zdolbuniv (obwód rowieński, NW Ukraina) to paleogeńskie, drobnoziarniste (0,6–0,12 mm) skały klastyczne.
