Opis:
The article describes basic problems concerning qualifications required from personnel handling LNG terminal facilities and equipment in view of the new terminal in Świnoujście. Statistical data, separately reported for LNG tankers, indicate a drop of the number of accidents and machinery failures on ships. The legal basis for the organization of common seafarer training and additional training for LNG vessel crews is outlined. Finally, the authors point out the areas of training for shore-based personnel handling LNG vessels, types of equipment of training centers for specialized LNG courses and estimated costs of such training.

We report here the discovery of a Cretaceous mammal from the “Red Sandstone Group” of southwestern Tanzania. This specimen is one of only a very few Cretaceous mammals known from Gondwana in general and Africa in particular. The specimen consists of a short, deep left dentary that bore a large, procumbent central incisor, and five single−rooted, hypsodont cheek−teeth. The specimen is very tentatively identified as a sudamericid, and thus may represent the first African record of an enigmatic clade of mammals, the Gondwanatheria, which is otherwise known from the Late Cretaceous and Paleogene of several other Gondwanan landmasses. Unfortunately, the precise age of the specimen could not be determined. If it is pre−Campanian and if its identity as a sudamercid is corroborated through subsequent discoveries, it represents the earliest known gondwanatherian. If the specimen is from the Campanian or Maastrichtian, and again assuming its identification is correct, it has the potential to refute a recently formulated biogeographic hypothesis predicting the absence of certain terrestrial and freshwater vertebrate taxa, including gondwanatherians, in Africa (i.e., those that evolved elsewhere on Gondwana after Africa became an isolated landmass).

We present the results of processing of age-momentum correlation spectra that were measured for glycerol by the gamma-induced positron spectroscopy facility. Our research has shown that the shape of experimental s(t) curve cannot be explained without introduction of the intermediate state of positronium (Ps), called quasi-free Ps. This state yields the wide Doppler line near zero lifetimes. We discuss the possible properties of this intermediate Ps state from the viewpoint of developed model. The amount of annihilation events produced by quasi-free Ps is estimated to be less than 5% of total annihilations. In the proposed model, quasi-free Ps serves as a precursor for trapped Ps of para- and ortho-states.

Opis:
Fieldwork in the early Late Jurassic (Oxfordian) Qigu Formation of the Junggar Basin in Northwest China (Xinjiang Autonomous Region) produced teeth and mandibular fragments of a new docodont. The new taxon has a large “pseudotalonid” on the lower molars, and by retention of crest b−g exhibits closer affinities to Simpsonodon and Krusatodon from the Middle Jurassic of Europe than to the other known Asian docodonts Tashkumyrodon, Tegotherium, and Sibirotherium. It differs from the Haldanodon–Docodon−lineage by the “pseudotalonid” and large cusps b and g. A PAUP analysis based on lower molar characters produced a single most parsimonious tree with two main clades. One clade comprises Docodon, Haldanodon, and Borealestes, and the other Dsungarodon, Simpsonodon, and Krusatodon plus the Asian tegotheriids. Analysis of the molar occlusal relationships using epoxy casts mounted on a micromanipulator revealed a four−phase chewing cycle with transverse component. The molars of the new docodont exhibit a well developed grinding function besides cutting and shearing, probably indicating an omnivorous or even herbivorous diet. A grinding and crushing function is also present in the molars of Simpsonodon, Krusatodon, and the Asian tegotheriids, whereas Borealestes, Haldanodon, and Docodon retain the plesiomorphic molar pattern with mainly piercing and cutting function.

In this investigation positron annihilation, photoluminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance techniques are employed to gain insight in the compensation of CdTe doped with the halogen Cl. We will demonstrate that the high resistivity of CdTe:Cl cannot be explained by the interaction between the shallow effective mass type donor Cl on Te site and the doping induced shallow acceptor complex, a Cd vacancy paired off with a nearest-neighbour Cl atom (A centre). From electron paramagnetic resonance investigations we conclude that the mid gap trap, often detected by electrical methods in CdTe, is not the isolated Cd vacancy.

Opis:
We here establish a new mammaliaform genus and species, Galulatherium jenkinsi (Mammalia), from the Upper Cretaceous Galula Formation in the Rukwa Rift Basin of southwestern Tanzania. This represents the first named taxon of a mammaliaform from the entire Late Cretaceous of continental Afro-Arabia, an interval of 34 million years. Preliminary study of the holotypic and only known specimen (a partial dentary) resulted in tentative assignation to the Gondwanatheria, a poorly known, enigmatic clade of Late Cretaceous–Paleogene Gondwanan mammals (Krause et al. 2003). The application of advanced imaging (μCT) and visualization techniques permits a more detailed understanding of key anatomical features of the new taxon. It reveals that the lower dentition consisted of a large, procumbent lower incisor and four cheek teeth, all of which were evergrowing (hypselodont). Importantly, all of the teeth appear devoid of enamel. Comparisons conducted with a range of Mesozoic and selected Cenozoic mammaliaform groups document a number of features (e.g., columnar, enamel-less and evergrowing teeth, with relatively simple occlusal morphology) expressed in Galulatherium that are reminiscent of several distantly related groups, making taxonomic assignment difficult at this time. Herein we retain the provisional referral of Galulatherium (RRBP 02067) to Gondwanatheria; it is most similar to sudamericids such as Lavanify and Bharratherium from the Late Cretaceous of Madagascar and India, respectively, in exhibiting relatively simple, high-crowned, columnar cheek teeth. Other features (e.g., enamel-less dentition) are shared with disparate forms such as the Late Jurassic Fruitafossor and toothed xenarthrans (e.g., sloths), here attributed to convergence. Revised analyses of the depositional context for the holotype place it as having lived sometime between the late Turonian and latest Campanian (roughly 91–72 million years ago). This enhanced geochronological context helps to refine the palaeobiogeographical significance of Galulatherium among Cretaceous mammals in general and those from Gondwanan landmasses specifically.

Single source MOCVD techniques were used to prepare perovskite films with metallic conductivity (CaRuO$\text{}_{3}$, LaNiO$\text{}_{3}$, La$\text{}_{0.5}$Sr$\text{}_{0.5}$CoO$\text{}_{3}$ and (La,Pr)$\text{}_{0.7}$(Sr,Ca)$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$). Structural and electrical properties of the epitaxial layers on the coherent substrates are close to that of the films grown by pulsed laser deposition and magnetron sputtering. Peculiarities of the growth occur on the worse matched substrates, such as a mixture of two orientations, each aligned in the plane of the interface (LaNiO$\text{}_{3}$/MgO) and variant structures in the films on yttrium stabilized zirconia. X-ray diffraction of the films indicates pseudocubic lattice for all R$\text{}_{1-x}$A$\text{}_{x}$MO$\text{}_{3}$ films in spite of the distortions in the bulk material. The dependence of metal-insulator transition in R$\text{}_{1-x}$A$\text{}_{x}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ on the nature of R and A and film-substrate lattice mismatch was studied.

First results in the field of synthesis and research of the multicomponent (Ti-Zr-Hf-V-Nb)N nanostructured coatings are presented in the paper. Influence of processes of spinodal segregation and mass-transfer on single-layered or multilayered crystal boundary (second phase) forming were explored. Superhard nanostructured coatings were investigated before and after annealing at the temperature 600°C using unique methods (slow positron beam, proton microbeam particle induced X-ray emission-μ, Rutherford backscattering-analysis, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis was performed using DRON-4 and nanoindentor). Diffraction spectra were taken point-by-point, with a scanning step 2Θp=0.05 to 0.1°. We detected that positron trapping by defects was observed on the nanograins boundaries and interfaces (vacancies and nanopores which are the part of triple and larger grain's boundary junction). The 3D distribution maps of elements obtained by the proton microbeam (particle induced X-ray emission-μ) together with the results obtained by slow positron microbeam gave us comprehensive information about physical basis of the processes, connected with diffusion and spinodal segregation in superhard coatings.

Positron lifetime and pressure-volume-temperature experiments were performed as function of T (100-485 K) and P (10$\text{}^{-5}$ Pa-500 MPa) on a fluoroelastomer. From positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy, analyzed with LT9.0 assuming a dispersion in the e$\text{}^{+}$ (τ$\text{}_{2}$) and o-Ps (τ$\text{}_{3}$) lifetime, the mean, 〈v$\text{}_{h}$〉, and the width (standard deviation), σ$\text{}_{h}$, of the hole size distribution were calculated. The pressure-volume-temperature data were analyzed using the Simha-Somcynsky hole-lattice theory to estimate the specific hole free volume V$\text{}_{f}$. From a comparison of V$\text{}_{f}$ with 〈v$\text{}_{h}$〉 the specific hole number, N'$\text{}_{h}$, is estimated. The data from thermal expansion and pressure experiments show complete agreement when taking into account the compressibility of the occupied volume.
