Opis:
In multirate ad hoc networks, mobile stations usually adapt their transmission rates to the channel conditions. This paper investigates the behavior of IEEE 802.11b/g cards in a multirate ad hoc environment. The theoretical upper bound estimation of the throughput in multirate ad hoc networks is derived. The measurement scenarios and obtained results are presented. For result validation the theoretical and experimental values are compared. The achieved results, presented in the form of figures, show that cards manufactured by independent vendors perform differently. Therefore, choosing the optimum configuration, according to the user's requirements, is possible.

Opis:
This paper presents a novel QoS architecture for IEEE 802.11 multihop broadband ad hoc networks integrated with infrastructure. The authors describe its features, including MAC layer measurements, traffic differentiation, and admission control. The modules required by the network elements as well as their integration are also presented. Additionally, the paper presents results which validate its correct operation and prove its superiority over plain IEEE 802.11. The authors are convinced that the proposed solution will provide QoS support for a variety of services in future mobile ad hoc networks.

Opis:
Animals are important reservoir of Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen causing serious infections in both humans and livestock. However, data on invasiveness of L. monocytogenes strains of animal origin is very scarce. Ability of 18 L. monocytogenes strains of animal origin to invade HT- 9 cells was investigated. Plaque forming assay was used to assess invasiveness and ability of the pathogen to spread in the cell line. Almost 40% of L. monocytogenes strains were weakly invasive. It was shown that strains from serogroup 4b exhibited the highest invasiveness, whereas serogroup 1/2b consisted of strains of invasiveness below 0.0001%. Analysis of translated inlA and inlB gene sequences revealed no premature stop codons. Lineage-specific mutations in low invasive strains were identified within inlA and inlB sequences. Our results demonstrate high incidence of low invasive animal L. Monocytogenes strains, which may be at least partly explained by unique point mutations in the InlA and InlB.

Opis:
Nuclear medicine techniques allow physicians to observe and diagnose physiology of chosen organs as well as the whole body of a patient. This visualization is possible not only because radioisotopes are applied, but there is also a significant progress in the computer software possibility. The advantage of the cooperation between medicine and informatics can be implemented in the radiation protection field of medical staff. The presented computer software, so-called Optimizer, was dedicated to the medical staff responsible for radiopharmaceutical preparation. It is known that the doses obtained in the nuclear medicine "hot labs" can be higher in comparison with the doses obtained by the rest of the personnel in the same department. The main advantage of the presented program is that the time needed for radiopharmaceutical preparation can be shortened and, as a result, the doses absorbed by personel can be reduced. The information of the volume containing planned radioactivity at the time of the application can significantly reduce the number of checking (volume and radioactivity), which normally takes place before the final handing over the radiopharmaceutical to the application. A user-friendly interface provides control at each step of the preparation protocol. For the convenience of medical staff all current examinations were coloured in one of the three colours : red (an application has to be done now), yellow (waiting) and green (done). The Optimizer was created for the Nuclear Medicine Department in the 5th Military Hospital in Kraków (Poland). What is more, currently it is successfully used and final TLD (thermoluminescent dosimetry) tests have been performed.
